Hi,
My name is Brice Leclercq and I have been playing bass for many years, with bands such as Dissection, Satyricon Live...
I decided to create this channel to be able to share some of my biggest influences as well as how I approach my and their bass playing.
And in my opinion some of this musicians did not get the credits they deserved... So I'll try to choose al least some bass players that I consider underrated.
I always try to do covers with a bass sound as close as possible to the original by respect for the music.
I also always record my covers in one take with no editing whatsoever, in other words a playthrough cover.
Most of the time I do not EQ my takes either, only if the bass does not stick out of the mix enough.

Tuning D#G#C#F# As some of you already know, I think that when it comes to bass playing, it doesn't get much better than BLACK SABBATH's Heaven & Hell. My bass is the only bass you hear since I splitted the track. This is a great track to practice on plus it's a lot of fun to play. Geezer was really inspired during this recording... Enjoy!

Awesome playing and great advice and playing tips. Love these Dissection playthroughs!
Thanks a lot Justin!!! :)
As a guitarist learning Dissection riffs, I find this so awesome to watch. The tips/breakdowns of the parts are super helpful and makes it easier to learn. Makes me want to learn the bass parts too 🤘
Thanks a lot man!!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻I'm glad that it helps even on the guitar & if you want to learn bass, I give lessons online ;) I started as a guitar player & went to bass 22 years agao but I play guitar again with my new band FROM KAOS...
Great work, Brice. It's cool to see that you've added captions to your videos. It adds an extra layer of entertainment to go along with your solid bass playing. Cheers from Canada. 🤘😎
Thank you very much man! I wanted to implement some "educational" bass playing in my videos so I'm glad that you appreciate it!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Brice, do you play with Tomas Asklund nowadays? Where he is? I think it would be great if you'll play and make some videos with him by playing some Dissection music
Well, I'm still in touch with Tomas. He is recording, producing & playing drums on the new DAWN album. I would love to play with him again, either on a video or live or in a studio... So I'll try to have him doing something at some point, yes!
@briceleclercq101 Thanks for your answer!
@@briceleclercq101 if you can, could you please ask him, what kind of Vic firth drum sticks does he use? I'm a drummer too, and have been trying to find the answer for almost 20 years..
@@kvifaron4877 So Tomas answered me that he has been playing VIC FIRTH "Omar Hakim" for " years now.
@@briceleclercq101 Wow, thanks a lot!!!

Thanks man! I appreciate it!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Check out my new band FROM KAOS (www.youtube.com/@FROMKAOS-j2t) if you like DISSECTION!
You totally Nailed it Brother! Oui c'étais ma suggestion. Excellent!!!!
Cool! Glad you liked it ;) Check out my new band FROM KAOS (www.youtube.com/@FROMKAOS-j2t)... C'est mélodique, cru & rapide 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I’m here after seeing the interview by Nate Garrett. I’m curious as to why Jon’s ex bandmates didn’t rejoin the band? I remember him saying he wanted likeminded individuals for the rebirth, so did that mean the exbandmates wanted nothing to do with him? I’m also curious as to why Erik Danielsson took over bass duties in Dissection? I subscribed and look forward to more content!
Thanks for passing by the channel, taking the time to subcribe & leave a comment Richard! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Well I'm going to give you the answer Jon used to give to the medias, the band had splitted & had no line up prior to the prison time. Plus, Jon wanted to take the band to the next level with the Rebirth era. That's why he decided to hire new guys, me being one of them... When it comes to Eric (even if I wasn't there anymore...), Watain opened for us on the european tour plus he was very good friend with Set. At first, they replaced me with a norwegian bass player but it didn't work out & it didn't last long so they decided to go with a session player instead from what I know... I hope that it answers your questions man & don't forget to check my new band FROM KAOS as well: studio.th-cam.com/channels/z7UxBePNkE1-s-PxTz-XpA.html
Now I understand some special fills better on this one 👍🏻. Thx Brice!
Thank you man! Great! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 I'm glad that it helped!!!
Awesome cover as always Brice👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘 Your tips are very helpfull even for me who is a guitarist😃 Wow it is incredible that Jon was only 16 when he wrote this🤯 Did he write anything else on The Somberlain too at such a young age? And i will definitely check out your Band Brice im very looking forward to it😃
Tusen tack Seb!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Jon wrote pretty much the entire Somberlain when he was 16... I find this pretty incredible taking in consideration that he didn't have much experience or maturity in writing such a complex & interesting music... To me the sentence "It was meant to be" has never been so true...
Brice, could you do Outskirts of the Mind by From Kaos?
Haha yes, I will do a cover of Outskirts (not only ;)) in the future :)
Great 🔥🔥🔥🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks a bunch man!!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Eternal Masterpiece 🤘🤘🤘
Thank you very much!!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Brice you are a vital conduit to keep Dissection's black flame burning and have the credibility which others can't. 218
What a nice comment MIke!!! Thank you again very much for the support & the kind words man!!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 I'll do my best...
Very nice! Can you do Shadows over a lost kingdom?
Thanks a lot! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 What a good idea! I'll see what I can do ;)
Heaven's Damnation is still one of my favorite tracks from The Somberlain, and I can never get enough of it. Also, I love how the bass sounds so thunderous here, great work Brice!
Thank you very much Vladimir! Glad that you liked the track🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Do you know when the interview is coming out btw?
@@briceleclercq101Hopefully soon, I am still waiting for the editor to spell-check and publish it. 🤘

@@lucacavallini3242 As the original bass player of the rebirth of Dissection, I think I have all the rights in the world to do whatever I want with it...
@briceleclercq101 if you are the original bass player yes,you can play whatever you want, sorry.
I hope you understand me, John was the best one ever, and he still is the teacher of the black metal for me.
Would love to see some reinkaos C and C# songs, you're awesome
Thank you very much man! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 I'll do tracks from Reinkaos as well but just for tuning reasons (especially in C or C#), I need to get my hands on a 5 strings bass... In the meanwhile, don't forget to check my new band FROM KAOS. There are a few interesting bass lines on the album in my opinion...
@briceleclercq101 I undertand, for that reason I just recently put a 5string set on my 4string jazz bass, like B.E.A.D, turned out awesome. I'll search your band right now my friend.
@briceleclercq101 Man, I love one-man black metal projects, this is awesome, and your voice sounds like black/death or blackened death, amazing to my taste. Yesterday I watched rebirth of dissection and a lot of your videos, you just became an inspiration. Lucifer illuminatio mea!
@@lfhsnwmng I really apopreciate the support! Thank you! 🤘🤘🤘 Another single will come out on the 03/12 & the album on the 18/12. If you subscribe to both channels (mine & FROM KAOS') you'll be able to know about new releases👊 And there will be plenty in the near future...

Thanks a lot! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hi Brice, saw your interview with Nate Garrett yesterday. I was at the Dissection gig at Baroeg Rotterdam (December 2004) together with Watain as support band. Why did you left Dissection? Looking forward to hear more from From Kaos!
Thanks for the support & for leaving a comment Roeland!🤘🤘🤘 I remember that gig, yes, good one!... Well, I left DISSECTION because I didn't agree on the main business choices, label, manager or producer, studio etc... Mainly, they wanted to release the album on their own & I believed it would have been better for ex to sign with a label at the time. Plus, none of us were business minded enough in my opinion and their company went bankrupt after a year or so.... Don't forget to subscribe if you want to know about new releases/covers.... That being said, I'll have a FROM KAOS TH-cam channel up & running soon
The part at 2:02 one of the best moments of all their music
It's a very cool part indeed! 🤘🤘🤘
Awesome!
Thanks a lot man! 🤘🤘🤘
Man. You have to be a bass teacher's worst nightmare. 1st playing with a pick and 2nd choking that neck. LOL. I play like you do so I am not a bass snob. Definately one of the best bass covers I have ever seen on youtube.
Haha Thanks a lot man! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Well, I can easily tell you that I don't give a rat's ass about what a teacher would think of me playing with a pick or how I'm holding my neck ;-) Sure, it might not be the convotionnal way of doing it but Van Halen or Hendrix didn't give a s**t about that kind of things either & they changed music for ever. Funny enough, I also teach bass myself and I always encourage my students to play on real music, with feel & atitude and also to play with what they feel most comfortable with!
@briceleclercq101 Gotcha on the Rat's Ass. Like all the folks focused on the name on the headstock. When I played guitar it was Gibson and mostly Epis. I could buy 3 Epi SGs or LesPauls for the price of a Gibson. That gives me more extras and different tunings at gigs. Now I play bass so its Fenders and Stingrays and at gigs total Squiers and SBMM.
@@daveweed2765 Totally agree with your point of view!... I really like my SBMM... That being said, I think there are even worse in the guitar world 😅
Great cover! I know Jon was also a big Maiden fan and I can hear that in the music and the vibe
Thank you very much! He was a big MAIDEN fan indeed, he also liked WASP & METALLICA, especially the album Ride The Lightning... DId you know him personally? Kan du svenska eller?
@briceleclercq101 No, I wish I had met him. I've read many interviews with him and he always mentioned Maiden and other heavy metal bands as an influence.
@@Joelvete6 Another tip he gave me back in the days was "The Headless Cross" from BLACK SABBATH. He loved this album & thought it was way underrated... And I agree totally woith him!
Can you imagine the Ex Bassist of Dissection Brice Leclercq playing a Pantera Song 😵😲 wonderful! Well done Brice!
Hahaha well, I like to play music & think that Rex was/is an awesome bass player that should get more recognition... But thank you very much for the kind comments Gabriel! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Like! Subscribe! My favorite bass line of one of the best bands ever and OG playing it :D Rebirth lineup is the best one for me. Thanks!
Thank you very much Ivan! Highly appreciate the support!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Good afternoon, Brice. I would like to thank you for creating the channel and making covers of groups that are so important in my life. I often listen to your bass lines on the album "Reinkaos" and I have to say that they are a delight to my ears; they are from another world; something really magical. "Without music life would be a mistake" ( Nietzsche ).
Good afternoon Carlos & thank you very much for your kind words man! It's highly appreciated! When I recorded Reinkaos, I had some kind of mindset & I wanted to darkened the entire album as much as I could with my bass lines... And I agree with you & Nietzsche, indeed!🤘🏻 I'm about to launch my own band "FROM KAOS" with Janne Jaloma from DARK FUNERAL on drums so don't forget to subscribe! You can hear only a few seconds so far but my new single comes out on Tuesday the 19th (I'll be announcing everything this weekend): open.spotify.com/intl-fr/album/5GwJitCsnSPkC35WRW5wsK?si=i2PgUIOJQ52fDThgTd9ieg

Hi Brice, how’s it going? I hope you're well! I was wondering if you only play in bands when they call you for paid gigs, or if you’re also part of a group where you’re working on original material? Honestly, if I had the chance, I would’ve asked you to play bass in my project because you’re amazing, and you'd be a huge help to me. I don’t know if the kind of music I make would be your thing, but I’d be deeply honored if you’d even just listen to one of my tracks (Outer Heaven). Thanks again for answering my questions about Dissection and Jon last year-even if maybe I went a bit overboard with them. I’m really glad about your channel and that you’re out there making music; you deserve more views and subscribers! By the way, RIP Paul Di Anno and great cover. Saluti dall'Italia, ciao!
Hey man! Thank you very much for the kind comments! Well, I did both, in DISSECTION I was a permanent member but I also did session works sometimes... As for right now, I'm extremely busy with my own band that I'm about to launch "FROM KAOS". Stay tuned & thanks forr the support!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Mr. Leclelerq what a beautiful bassline and Sound performance - Thanks from Denmark🙂😎
Tusen Tack Herr Lars! I really appreciate the support! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hey man, awesome bass tone, so kool you play with mighty Dissection!!! What was your bass rig those years with the band?? The bass on Dissection was always a special part on the atmosphere of their music!
Thanks a lot man! Very appreciated🤘🤘🤘 It depends on the period but during Rebirth I used a Hartke combined with an Ibanez. During the recording of Reinkaos & even live, I used an Ampeg with an handcrafted 5 strings Warwick from 87. Nowadays, I use an old Ampeg SVT 350W that used to be owned by MAGMA's Bassist 😉
This is effing amazing

Thank you very much !!! 🤘🤘🤘
Surprised no one cared to ask, so here it goes. What do you think of Jon's actions taking into account you share his ideology? Thanks for the upload
You are welcome! I'm not really sure what you mean by "actions" but I suppose you are refering to Keillers Park in 97 and/or the suicide in 2006. Regarding what he was convicted for, Jon has never revendicated what he did it as a "satanic act" of some sort and never was he proud of it either. He did what he did at the moment and paid his due to society by doing 10 years in prison. Nothing more, nothing less. On Jon's suicide, he decided to end his life & certainly had the rights to do so as a satanist. That being said, I think that the reasons why he did what he did are more complicated than it seems...
@briceleclercq101 Indeed that's what I referred to. Thanks for your input
