Scorpion with baffle 100% Yoshimura intentionally is mild sounding, they really do try to keep the noise down which I dislike, maybe because the country they’re produced in has traffic noise laws. I don’t really like a super loud bike but in traffic it’s important to at least be heard if you can’t be seen.
Scorpion WITH baffle? man I couldnt stand the sound change at all. Have you heard it in person?
Gaernes for the win. Have the exact boots awesome boots
Great review, very detailed! Quick question: how do these boots perform in hot weather? I live in a warm climate and usually ride on roads with very little off-road use. I’m wondering if they breathe well or if they tend to make your feet sweat a lot during long rides. Would you recommend them for this type of climate and riding style?
Great question! I'm actually in Arizona and have ridden these Gaerne's on some pretty hot days. I tend to stay away from anything labeled "waterproof" because they tend to run hotter. So these are strictly leather on the lower half and not very insulated on the top half so they breathe pretty well. You'd think without venting like a lot of the MX boots they would run hotter, but the MX boots tend to have more padding. So I'd say these Gaerne's are a great choice for hotter climates for sure.
Hello. Did you use the same bolts? Original bolts? They are long enought? Thanks!
correct, they are the stock bolts and they are long enough. The supplied washers arent that thick and still allow a lot of threads to engage
Would leatt work well for wide feet?
Hmm I'd say Leatt's fit is more for slender feet in my opinion. I'd say you'd want to look at Gaerne for a wider foot. I did another Boot review for ADV boots and noted the Gaerne was a wider fit in general. So maybe checking out theGaerne SG-22 Enduro Or the Fastback would work for you better. Thanks!
Neither of them
Now I'm jealous. I just missed a nice ride.
That is awesome Tom.
Can’t go wrong with any of those, so similar sounding
@@jfro5867 yeah I was actually considering not even making the video after watching the footage and seeing how similar they were. But the sound at that angle of the bike is very different than when passing by. It’s not something I’ve seen on exhaust videos
that scorpion exhaust sounds killerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Great video man! You were quick and direct. Love the audiotrack too. I hate to be the "point something" guy, but the torque on the water pump bracket (the shortest screw) is 10 NM. Not that big of a deal.
Thanks for the comments Victor, and I hate to be "that guy" as well, but I just went and double checked the service manual and all the bolts on that side are indeed listed as 12 Nm. I'd post a picture if I could. It's funny I thought about adding the page from the manual in the video just for this reason but decided against it. Thanks!
@@brokenfixedpictures7638 That's odd. I wonder if we are looking at different manuals. I tried posting a link with a screenshot to what I see on mine, but it get's blocked.
@@victor_mendonca Yeah the one I'm referencing is the 2020 Yamaha Service Manual. It's 472 pages.
@@brokenfixedpictures7638 then it's the same as mine. Your screenshot is from 5-33, 5-34. The small screw is on 6-10, 6-11 (Cooling - Water Pump).
@@victor_mendonca Ah thanks for that Victor! I was looking at the Clutch page and thought all the bolts were covered there. Such a weird way to include that 1 little 10 nm bolt on only the water pump page!? Crazy!
Thanks for the video/info, these definitely seem like the best bang for the buck out there for the Tenere 700 .........
I went with the Dakars, and they're excellent for me in performance, fit and quality. They're better than my A-star Corozals.
Great video! Excellent for people considering both boots.
Hi.. your video was very informative. I bought the Gaerne Dakar boots and checking the sole I see it is not really flat. I mean When I put it on a flat surface it wiggles a bit side to side and I believe it is because the sole has to different patterns and the join of those 2 patterns is right in the middle of the sole. Have you noticed that?
Hey no I cant say I noticed a side to side wiggle of the boot on a flat surface. I think when I used the term "flat" it was in relation to the other Forum boot that had a taller more narrow sole vs. the Gaerne which was flatter and wider.
So basically you pay 60 more dollars and get a wayyy better boot.
That's how I was feeling!
I’m looking to do the same. Have aftermarket exhaust and it seems the stock ecu isn’t able to compensate and might run a bit too lean to be safe long term. How is the install holding up? Did it make the bike nicer to ride? Would you do it again?
No problems so far and it's probably been 3-4k miles so far. Mostly hard off-road riding
Nice quick and to the point video!! I just got some Leatt 4.5 for my son today. They are pretty comfortable and seem to have decent protection. Should be an overall good and safe boot for the little bit of trail riding he does. I wanted protection for him, and comfortable too...i think they should be pretty good at both.
Thanks! Yeah I've had them about 7 months riding gnarly terrain weekly and they're still very comfortable. They did take a little time to get broken in I'll say. After a full day of ADV riding my feet were ready to escape, but they dont bother me all day anymore.
Great real world review
How much protection did these really add? Very expensive in japan
I'm lucky enough to have not taken any major hits. I think they would offer enough protection for a "glance" hit, but a direct rock hit would probably crack the casing. Just not as much. But they are light and dont stick out too far so I'm happy with them. Note I still have a skid plate and side engine guards as well which take most of the "fall impact"
@brokenfixedpictures7638 I'll put it with a skid plate and bars . It's for that piece of mind if a rock finds its way around the bars or plate. Thanks
ىواسكثنى
I don’t think the sidi would save your ankle in a crash, from the motocross perspective at least. Thats been my biggest concern since a big crash where I got separated from the bike. Im excited for the budget friendly motorcycle equipment that leatt puts out
The Sidi boots are meant for enduro not MX
How have the leatts holding up?
So far so good man. They took a little bit to get broken in and used to a stiffer boot. But they're still rock solid after around 2000 miles of riding. The foot bed is showing some wear since I have sharper pegs.
Why compare the Gaerne Dakar to the Forma Adventure? A more appropriate comparison, is the Forma Terra Evo. Otherwise, not a fair comparison.
"appropriate" haha I actually bought these 2 pairs of boots for myself in order to determine how much protection I wanted vs. the cost. So this comparison was a real life scenario. This isnt a gear channel making "appropriate" comparison videos that are sponsored by Gaerne.
Have the formas, want a little more protection, want a little more breathable here in Tokyo, want a little wider. Selling my formas, getting gaerne
oh yeah if you're looking for a little wider, the gaerne will definitely work for you
@@brokenfixedpictures7638 brilliant, and I’m sure switching to gortex won’t hurt in the heat here. Thanks for the quality and to the point review. Very rare to find the exact 2 boots, same color and size that I’m looking for in 1 review😅 I’ll buy directly from Europe so, even though USA sizes were off, the eu sizes seem to be 44=44
Gaerne Dakar Goretex 👌🏼 I love mine since 2022…
👌👌👌💪👍
Thanks! Subscribe for more!
Hey homie. I watched your video, I made the purchase. I'm happy with them so far. Excellent fit for sure. Covers the pump and hardlines as I wanted. Thanks again.
Badass
If you’re going to change electrical components which changes the known reliability of a Yamaha, why not just buy a different bike!
haha, great question dude. I think the jury's still out on whether I've made the reliability questionable.
like from the 1980's? Before emissions controls really kicked in. I believe all modern bikes are affected by this to varying degrees.
Thanks for video! Did you loose some oil from the lower bolt of the left side? I did, at least on my T7 from 2023.
No I didnt have any oil leak out at all. I think I made sure the bike was level though
Dude, Leatt is the dopeness! Love Mine
In my experience, having installed stuff like this on previous bikes I have owned, my advice is don't bother, the products will eventually malfunction and give you a breakdown. You're only adding complications.
to each their own my friend
I tried the Dakars for a couple of hours but I had to send them back. As they broke in a bit, the lower strap, at the point where you adjust it's length, created this terrible pressure point on the top of my foot. I assumed that with even more break in it would get even worse. Too bad since I liked them a lot. I ended up going for the Gaerne Midlands since I am an asphalt rider anyway.
yeah I felt what you're talking about in a smaller size but didnt feel that issue on the size up. Thanks for watching and good luck with the Midlands!
@@brokenfixedpictures7638 the midlands are really comfortable, less protection than the dakkars but yeah. Ride safe :)
@@ioandragulescu6063 Ah yeah they're a great compromise.
Like the look of these

Quick question please, how did you get the heat shrink onto the TPS wire when it is attached to the plug, how did you slide a piece small enough to shrink down to the thin wire size? Cheers. 👍
At around the 5:35 mark, you can see that I cut the white wire on the TPS, I slide the small heat shrink onto the wire, twist up all three wires, fold them back and slide the heat shrink over them. Because there's 3 wires twisted the heat shrink I used was snug and sealed up nicely around the 5:37 mark. Hope this helps. Good luck!
@@brokenfixedpictures7638 Cheers for that, just fitting my Dimsport “Exclusive” (which is the none adjustable version of the Evo for the 2022 UK Rally Raid), found your video, has been very useful. 👍
@@windinthewillows6248 Cheers Mate! I'm glad I could help!
If you didn't have the annoying music it would be a better video.
Ah sorry dawg, lemme know what you think about the music in the other videos. I make them myself!
Great video. Thanks!
I've been using Forma for six years now and still love using it. I'd got a Forma Terra Evo and the other older version, both are walkable and in superb protection .
Not to ask a dumb question, but what exactly is the purpose of this upgrade - to boost performance or to accommodate the tuning for like a custom exhaust?
There are no dumb questions, my dude! There is a slight gain in performance, but yes mainly this is to adjust air/fuel mixture and throttle response when increasing airflow into the engine as well out with the exhaust. The previous owner added the exhaust and I was nervous the ratios were a bit off as I was getting a bit of pop on decel when off the throttle. So this module recalibrates those ratios on the fly as well as when I'm riding in different altitudes. Thanks good luck!
@@brokenfixedpictures7638 Has the decel pop improved after adding the dimsport? The popping drives me crazy!
@@alexpaulsen1487 I felt like it decreased a bit but it's hard for me to judge considering I've always had the Yoshi pipe without a baffle, since I bought the bike. In theory the dimsport adjusts the fuel mixture to be a bit richer when you let off the throttle and decreases that pop at decel which is related to a lean mixture.
@@brokenfixedpictures7638 makes sense - thanks for the reply! I think i'll add the dimsport to the winter project list
Dude, Leatt is not even n the same league as Sidi or Gaerne
haha, I had that thought originally when I ordered both brands. The shin protection on the Sidi is pretty weak compared to most other boots too!
@@brokenfixedpictures7638 boom roasted
I would definitely trust leatt way more for protection, comfort and stiffness maybe not but I have trusted leatt with my life many times including my chest protector and helmet. Don’t underestimate them, they are even used by professional motocrossers.
Leatt boots made in China, Sidi in Italy. Gaerne, Alpinestar and Sidi boots are everywhere in mx and Enduro, hardly ever see anyone running Leatt boots unless they're sponsored by them.
@@blairfwilloughbymost Sidi are made in Romania now, as are most “Italian” boots nowadays. I have 8, yes 8 pair of Sidi road/OffRoad and none are made in Italy.
installed this 2 weeks before you made the video, wish i'd seen it first lol Still thinking of getting it removed and simply flash the oem ECU, just too many extra pieces and cables to worry about for longer voyages.
Well if you've already installed it, I guess it'd make sense to ride it out and see. I can see your point about longevity in the long term. I never had any issues with the one I mounted in my Ducati Scrambler for the 4 years I've owned it, but I never rode that off-road. We'll see what happens I guess and I'll post an update video if anything does. Good luck with the ECU flash if you decide to do it!
Sir overall which has better protection.
Gaerne!
W video
Triple Clamp Moto has been making these for years. HDPE and will protect your engine and water pump. Great for the T7.
Yeah I saw the installation video that Swanky Cat made and didnt like the design/fit as much as the Acerbis ones.
Well, T7 actually doesn't need this, runs fine from factory. at least Europe version.
Interesting video - thanks!
Can u tell the......Which boots are cheap & best for long or short ride whether it's off-road or express way road.....My dear friend !!
Sounds like you want the Forma's
You know if you push the centre of the plastic rivet clips down it loosens them ,more likely to break them the way you removed them
