Sorry but y'all acting like you never heard of the TUBBS fire the yr before. Exact same scenario with > 70 mph wind, embers spotting MILES ahead, inthe night (y'all were lucky there) and a charging wildfire that killed and razed entire neighborhoods. Y'all should have paid attention. Acting like it was a big surprise, lessons learned AFTER, hey, what about what y'all didn't learn from TUBBS.

A lot of common sense went out the window. The wind speed and direction was in the forecast.

Hoping that MARIN COUNTY residents take heed, as much forestry has not burned in over 100 years, and the temps in Novato at the start of this extreme heat wave yesterday was 105 degrees. Take a look to the West of Novato, all that fresh dense green.

Why didn't the Butte's Emergency Operation Center, EOC, also use AM or FM radio station alerts in addition to cell phone alerts? Shari, Butte's chief administrative officer, stated that when she got to the EOC they "..had no internet, no email, no landlines and spotty cell phone and text. So we were all operating off of cell phones." AM or FM radio station alerts would have reached residents if the station issuing the alert was out of the destruction zone. One can tune into a radio station that is over 100 miles away. A lot of people had access to AM FM radios in their cars.

The fire began right at the time when the air in the valley is becoming warm and it starts Trading Places as pressure seeks to equal between the canyon bottoms and the mountain peaks and other high places wow the more mountainous areas in turn seek to equalize their pressure with the more low-lying Valley and flat land areas creating a unique event that can result in spectacular displays of wind and the right areas and circumstances especially in the concow Yankee Hill up to Pulga area that the fire started in as their vast stretches of already burnt treeless bear heels and ridges with nothing to slow the wind down that is being driven by Nature's efforts to equalize the pressures between the different elevations and temperature zones . Everyday at dawn and at dusk there are wind events in Jarboe Gap that affect all of Eastern concow and Yankee Hill and to a lesser Cherokee and Eastern Paradise Magalia area. But right there in Yankee Hill going down Dark Canyon road heading towards the Feather River Canyon my ex and lawsuits have property on a burned-out Mountain that caught this North Wind every single day twice a day coming and going. When the fire begin it was right at the base of Camp Creek Road Hill. Cuz that road that road Cuts straight up a mountain that is heavily or was heavily covered with brush and scrub Oak and other highly combustible easy to light fuel and Fire Burns uphill far easier than it does downhill. The Camp Creek is it the lowest point though because charcoal Gap lies just beyond it and this is the actual Canyon of the Feather River where all this cold wind is Trading Places with the hot when trying to expand from the valley floor. So in effect there was a gigantic Billows of oxygen saturated fresh air being pumped out of the canyon at near hurricane speed. This had the effect of causing the fire burning just above it and downwind to turn into a gigantic Forge like in a blacksmith. That is why there was melted cars and other things that you would never imagine a forest fire was capable of. And ask for all the things that are melted standing next to trees that aren't burned well everyone who lives up here knows that if you have a piece of pine that's full of pitch and you get to burning and blow wind on it it'll burn just like a forge as I was talking about or a blowtorch but as soon as the wind changing direction in any shape or form or ceases for a second this fire can flicker out immediately without any hesitation because it is very fickle and it will burn and burn and burn and never even text the tree of the wood because the pine sap actually boils out of the wood as it burns acting like kerosene oil in a lantern does protecting the wick itself from burning I had to argue with a bunch of Flat Earth conspiracy theories that were actually trying to fraud a bunch of our neighbors into basically donating to the TH-cam channel that wasn't actually going to do any type of help are good deeds except for a couple very publicized acts of kindness that we're basically the only things that they did to Virtual signal and ask for money. Yeah these are flat Earth conspiracy theories idiots that could not understand how forest fires actually burn when they have the right conditions and can turn into a firestorm like the campfire did. There's three different fire tornadoes reported at the very least during this Firestorm and I live in Oroville but standing out in front of the place I live in looking up towards the ridge from where I was I can actually feel the ground vibrating with energy because of the intensity of the storm the flames and the wind all combined. It was so Eerie to feel the ground vibrating from a fire that was almost 20 mi away from me. It was incredible

My neighbors daughter lost everything. But luckily she and he family escaped with their lives. She was smart and had a scanner. So she got the info at 6 AM!

The best laid plans can fail and when evil decides to strike it does with a vengeance. I watched as much as I could during that so called wild fire. I saw a few fire trucks go down the road only to return in minutes and go back in the direction they came from. And to be honest I can't say I saw anyone fighting that fire from the ground nor in the air but is was a BIG fire and hotter than most for some reason. I saw car wheels melted with liquid metal draining away but nothing nearby was on fire. These vehicles looked as if hit by laser. Some of those cars had once had living persons in them. I saw very few people walking or running on the road. I would think the road would be too hot to walk or run on given what heat it had taken to melt those wheels! I also saw kids plastic toys and plastic rubbish cans in yards not burning or melting, no trees burning nearby yet the house was fully engulfed in fire. This was the state of not only one house but several. What surprised me was seeing some trees burning from the inside out! I had also seen a couple houses burning from the inside out. Then I saw cars backed up, I don't know/remember how many. It appeared that maybe down the road where I could see no longer something was terribly wrong. IDK I remember a gal who had been trying to get her mother to leave. She wouldn't go because they had received no call. I think the worst was what I think was a small dog crying and then it stopped. It's difficult to believe anyone would leave a pet behind. I know this wasn't the 1st time this has and I heard a recent story of the same thing happening in on one of the Canadian fires. I don't understand. In my small brain pets are family. Tears are coming again.

Smh the fire chief should be arrested and the dispatcher should be removed immediately..you build a town in the woods without roads?? No excuse this is GOD teaching of living places without others..escaping reality and thinking you're better..sad very sad

Butte County congratulations on a great series. The spring after the Camp Fire I visited family in Butte County and visited the area. It is hard to express my sadness to the the people and business impacted by the fire. I have lived in a WUI area for 20 years and have tried to have my property meet the Defensible Space Guidelines. After visiting my goal is now to improve my defensible space to a level to protect my home from a wildfire of the magnitude of the Camp Fire.

Elected officials at all levels need to view this video. Disaster planning starts (or ends) with political will (and a little funding). Officials must understand the process and the plan and understand how it will be executed.

No, not all zones were notified. Only the Pentz Road area zones were notified so traffic evacuation was reduced. My zone 9 received an evacuation notice at 549pm about 7 hours later.
