I knew Amanda when she was a little girl in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her mom was a good friend of F mine. We worked together at the Lord Nelson Hotel. Amanda would come in after school and do her homework waiting for Mom to finish work.

Waited nearly thirty years to see her perform. Sure, it would have been great to see her before that, but if I had to wait that long again to see her, I'd do it. She's that friggin' good.

Growing up in Canada I've had the pleasure of hearing her songs on the radio for 10-15 years. But nothing does her justice more than seeing a live performance. Absolutely one of the best musicians Canada has ever produced, sad that she doesn't get the worldwide attention she deserves.

To go from her first two albums which were unbelievable to this sell out music was really disappointing. This must have been a case of the record company forcing her to shift her sound and image. Didn’t work whatsoever.

I can hear Janis Joplin singing this. Amazing.

She could out sing all the late 90s pop princesses, but she was older, didn’t sing bubblegum pop and didn’t show her stomach. And by the that time, she was already in her 20s. If she’d shown up in a half shirt and sang some fluff about not being “innocent,” she might have been huge in America. But the people listening to her music weren’t really buying CDs in the 90s. I think she sounds like Janis Joplin with more soul, but again, that’s not what audiences wanted. In the late 90s especially, the videos for young female artists were becoming more and more raunchy and Amanda was in big coats in most of her videos. The one time she actually did try to “appeal to the youth” with “Everybody’s Got A Story” I wasn’t crazy about it. It felt like Nelly Furtado hanging out with rappers. She was always about her voice, storytelling and creativity rather than all that other stuff. Sadly, that was probably the last time I saw a new video from her. But what a voice.
