Mimi Hikes
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 11 ก.พ. 2021
Welcome! Follow along as Mimi (Kim) and Papa (Scott) hike the Pacific Crest Trail starting this spring 2021. I’d love to take you with us as we discover the trail, discover the people along the trail, and discover more about ourselves. Papa has a limited time to hike, but I hope to complete as much of the trail as I can. The PCT has been calling to me for many years! I am excited to start this journey and see where it takes me. I also hope to inspire people of any age to get out and explore this amazing world God has created.

Agree...high ridge walks !!
Another great day on the PCT!🌻💛
Yes it was! But you’ll see this section had so many bike tracks that, at least for me, it took away from the hike a bit as you wonder if you’ll run into one-literally. I’d say about 30 miles or so of the 110 we hiked from Donner Summit to Bucks Summit. The PCTA said it is a real problem in that area.
@mimihikes3702 Interesting! I hike with mtn bikers all the time on shared trails, so I know what you mean. It's frustrating, though, when they go on trails that are for hikers and equestrian only. It definitely takes something away from the experience (and thrashes the trail too).
Whoop whoop! More PCT, yay!!🌻💛
I appreciate your enthusiasm! Spoiler alert! We made it to our goal of Bucks Summit and it felt amazing to finally complete one of my “flexible plans!” I’m already plotting how to finish my 3 remaining sections in 2025. Fingers crossed!
@mimihikes3702 You accomplished a lot this year! I will be back out there in 2025 to pick up where I left off, God willing.😁🥾🥾
@TheHikingChick1 Please keep me in the loop as I continue to hope we can meet and hike sometime. I hope you’re feeling stronger and stronger.
@mimihikes3702 Will do! Thank you! It's been slow this time, but I'm keeping the faith. I'd love to hike together some time.
Maybe that Nor-Cal section you still have.😁
Super cool map.
It really helps you understand the scope of different trail sections. My kids found it on Etsy.
Clocking up those miles!!!👍🥰 2000 🎉 👏🏅
It felt great! After my last section I finished the year at around 2125. Woohoo!!
What a wonderful adventure you guys have been having! Trail magic bar in the woods too!!!!
Haha! The bar was fun even though it was only 10 AM!
One of my favorite places. In the 1970's, I would hike into Eleanor lake from outside the Park. I would drive in the Huckleberry Creek Road. No permit or sigh-ins. From there you could cross country for about a mile to reach the Lake. Back then we always had the Lake to ourselves and enjoyed catching Rainbows up to 20 inches long. The good old days!
Times have changed regarding permits for sure. We were alone that night I think.
Looks like you had great weather on this section. So beautiful!
We had great weather all except the one really, terrible day 🤪 That episode is coming soon.
Remember a B&W movie with rollers and chains on wsgons...and you're there!!!! Thats cool! But what an achievement for those souls 💞
They were tough back in the day! I can’t imagine their journey!
Great Day 1. I have lots of fun childhood memories skiing at Squaw, Alpine and Sugar Bowl. Looks like you got a great start!👏
It was a great day except for the wind I thought might blow me over! Plus it took a few days to acclimate to the elevation. But the huge views made it so worth it!
like~you uploaded stunning traveling!see you soon! Mimi. 💫
Thank you very much!
Such beautiful scenery and flowers in this episode. So sad about all the fires. Especially frustrating when they're started by human error. Looks like you had a wonderful time and were able to complete a good portion of that section. Why to go ladies! 💪👏🌻💛
Thank you for all your positive words! I appreciate them! We were just reaching what looked to be some even more beautiful miles, but I guess we have them to look forward to next year-hopefully.
It looks pretty challenging coming out of Castle Crags, but sure beautiful! Great job on the 15 mile day!💪
The combination of the heat, exposure, continued ascent, and long water carry made for a tough day! I swear I would have taken a ride home at Gumboot as I could barely set up my tent and could only suck down some pb for dinner. But, the next day had some magical lakes as you shall see. That’s the way of the PCT!
So, was it 7 hiking days from Burney to I-5? Just trying to gauge for future reference. What would you say was average mileage per day?
We did it in 6.5 days and the average for the 6 full days was 12.7. We only went 5.7 the first afternoon mostly due to camping. We had 4 tents, so that limits your choices. We had planned for 7.5 days, but town was calling!
Enjoying the series. Looks so far like your timing was perfect to do this section. I know there was a closure farther up, but I think you may have beat it. Looking forward to the rest of the videos. Wishing I had been able to join you and meet this wonderful crew of hiking chicks!🌻💛
Thanks for your nice comment. I also wish you had been able to come along, but as you’ll see there’s still an opportunity in that section. Unfortunately we were about a week late in being able to make it through. We heard about the fire while in Mt Shasta. So disappointing! We headed up with the hopes of reaching Etna Summit where the closure started. But the fire became a much bigger reality about 40 miles south of there, so we exited. We weren’t too close, but we didn’t want to impact the struggling locals. Now I gave away all the coming excitement in my vlogs 😂 So- I hope to finish the 160ish miles to Ashland early next summer. Maybe you can join for that part as it’s the prettier part. I hope you’re feeling better!
Beautiful flowers
Thank you! Not many in that section, but I always appreciate them.
What a glorious day! Starting with that view at sunrise! The birdsong, flowers, views all so beautiful! Good company too!
It is great to experience the beauty with others.
Greetings from Florida! Nice video, thanks for sharing!!!😊😊😊
You’re welcome. It was an interesting day for sure!
Congratulations to the engaged couple if they're watching 💐💕
They were so adorable!
Loved those views!!!!
Me too! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful views. Nice video 👍
Thank you!
Nice going, beautiful views.
Thanks! It’s fun finding unexpected beauty along the way.
beautiful views, the skies are wonderful and lots to discover, thanks for sharing, enjoyed
Thank you! I too loved the skies and experiencing at least a small part of NM. My bucket list just keeps growing!
Nice place. Thank you for sharing 😊
You are welcome! We really enjoyed Organ Pipe.
Beautiful Arizona. Great video
Thank you! We loved Organ Pipe NM!
Congrats! 👏👏👏
Thank you! What a wonderful feeling!!
Congratulations🎉 Clicking up that PCT total!!👍
Thanks! Praying to add more this year!
Gorgeous country!!!!🤗
Yes it is! I loved the Mt Hood views, but the walk along the creek after Ramona Falls was divine. So peaceful and beautiful.
Oh my goodness! A shout out to me! Thank you Mimi! I am really enjoying your videos, my friend Josh and I started at Skyline Road in 2022, and went all the way to Cascade Locks. Watching them makes me want to get back out there!
Thank you! Photos are wonderful, but there is just something about video that brings the memory to life, at least for me. I’m anxious to get back out too!
Hello Mimi, I have thought I was commenting on this video twice now and I do not see them!?! So, I will try again! I got a big chuckle when you and Scott were having your chat about Olalie Lake (I loved the Resort with a little r!) The food you found in the hiker box was left by me, as well. I had taken a picture of the food packages before putting them in the box and I wanted to attach it to this video, but could not figure out how to do it. Instead, I made a whole video of my 2023 solo hike and the picture is in the video. I only took still photos so it is not as interesting as yours. If you are interested, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/qhtedQ8pwn0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OQuztvk0Ad11x458
I see this comment. Thanks as I love it when people say something. I’ll check out your video for sure! They really help us remember the journey.
Love it! 😊
Love it all, but especially that azure coloured lake!!!
Isn’t it so beautiful?! I could have sat there all day.
Stunningly beautiful!!! Breathtaking !!! Jigsaw material!! Top shots!!!! 🏆🥰
Thank you! It was a gorgeous part.
Really is awesome. Thanks for sharing all the scenery. Take care and safe journeys.
We just couldn’t get enough of that Mt Jefferson view! So stunning!
Agreed.
Hello Mimi (or Flower, as I know you!) I am Casper, we camped together at Warm Springs River. I stumbled on your videos and did not know it was you for a couple of them. I am loving watching, it brings up great memories of my hike, and I can't wait to see the next ones. BTW, you can thank me for the sunflower seeds, I put them and several other items in the Olallie Lake hiker box the day before! I am so glad you enjoyed them. Steve
Yes I remember you! We left so early as we had been awake since midnight from the whooping racers that it seemed pointless to try and sleep. I’m happy you’re enjoying the videos. I do make them mostly to help us remember, but I also appreciate that others enjoy them. PS thanks for the seeds, but they weren’t quite a replacement for no burgers! 😂
I wondered where you went. When I got out of my tent, I looked over and you and Scott were gone, without a trace! I must have slept hard, I did not hear the commotion of the runners, once asleep! I was hoping to meet up with you down trail and chat some more. Sorry to have missed you. Also, you are not the only ones to be disappointed with no burgers at Olallie Lake, another couple that camped by me there, were as bummed as you were! @@mimihikes3702
You are blessed with deep sleep! Neither of us could even with ear plus. At least the sweet race volunteers fed us breakfast! Stay in touch 👍🏼
Thanks for the inspiration! I haven't backpacked that area since the summer of 1989.
Lots of burn on either side, but still an amazing section. Thanks for watching and commenting. I do hope to inspire us more seasoned hikers to get out.
Wonderful and beautiful area. What an adventure to be on the PCT. Thanks for sharing your adventure and take care.
You are very welcome! Making the videos helps me remember the adventure and some of the people along the way. I have several more from OR to finish up!
Awesome and look forward to watching those.
Looks like a great day of hiking through Jefferson wilderness, such a cool area! And good work on difficult stream crossings!
Thank you! It is an area we want to return to someday. So much beauty! And that stream crossing was a bit scary because of the dangerous runoff right below the crossing. No room for errors!
@@mimihikes3702 You did really well stream crossing with 3 points of contact. You'll have to return to Jefferson sometime and enjoy it again!
Held my breath watching the water crossing!! Beautiful early/late sun shots🤗
I was holding my breath too when Scott crossed! It wasn’t too bad, but what you can’t see is it quickly fed into a narrow canyon with steep, high walls. So no falling!!
Beautiful scenery! And what wonderful mountain goat sightings.👏👏
It was a very lovely day, especially with no smoke. I’m so glad we waited for it to clear before continuing.
Boy!! That opened a floodgate of memories. Including day hikes, overnighters, and section hikes. I see you got to stay at the Presidential Suite overlooking Mt. Jefferson. We camped at the same spot. It was beautiful! And watching the moon rise behind it was awesome. Easily one of my favorite sections...Santiam Pass to Olallie Lake. :)
Wait until you see our next camp spot! We really enjoyed hiking around Jefferson!
The burn areas are so sad
I agree. I feel very sad for the trees and animals that were affected. We walked through a burn most days on our trek across OR.
One of my favorite sections :)
Really?! It would have been greatly improved if we could have seen the amazing string of peaks we knew were out there. But those rocks were super frustrating! And our lungs were starting to complain a bit. 😷
True...the smoke you dealt with was crazy.
2000 M marker 🎉 You sure have been earning your miles with all that "gravel" AND smoke! 🏅
It was a very tough walk through many miles of rock especially with limited views to distract us.
I ❤ obsidian ! Amazing volcanic walking!!!
It was wonderful to have beautiful things at our feet as the views up higher were pretty hazy. A very interesting place!
Nice hike Mimi. Wishing you all the best 👍 😊
Thank you! We were so excited to get to some open country and views, but the smoke, as you’ll soon see, really messed with that. This is an area I want to return to when it’s clear.
Clicking up those miles. That resort looked like a nice spot to zero...😀
It would have been if it wasn’t so smokey. So thankful for my friend Ineke who took us in.
Nice going Mimi. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you too! I appreciate your comments.
Nice going. Wishing you a fantastic week. Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you and you are most welcome.
Such contrast, yet you managed to find beauty. I hope the wildlife managed to move out of harms way
I know what you mean. I can’t imagine how terrifying a fire like this would be.
