Building Learning Communities for AI in Nigeria: AI Saturday Lagos Story
AI Saturdays Lagos (AI6 Lagos) is a community study group where learners come together every Saturday for 16 weeks to learn to gain skills in the field of artificial intelligence. AI6 Lagos was started by Tejumade Afonja and Femi Azeez. I decided to make this film to show how a group of self-organizing Nigerian youths is helping other people gain valuable skills in the field of AI. This movement is driven by volunteerism and selfless leadership

As someone who is a carrier of the sickle cell trait (AS), seeing my cousin, who is SS, suffer from crises repeatedly pretty much drove home the message for me. I'm sure this video will help people realize the magnitude of the needless suffering that SS patients go through. Thank you Ope for this important message.

thanks, Emmanuel. I think the big issue is that people without a personal closeness to someone with sickle cell disease tend to underestimate how much impact it has on the lives of people living with it and their families.

These individuals seem to always have extra intelligence. their stories are very inspiring. Life full of pulling through challenges and testimonies. Many of us with AA or AS genotypes do not have touching stories like these. It's like our life stories may be flat and uneventful

Funny story. My sister walked in at the part you were talking about marriage and said "your father" at the "who will marry you?" statement. Other comments include: "the first mistake she made was giving him the time of day." "It's him that no one should even marry." "So in his mind he's a catch. I don't know him but that personality is not a catch." "He should take himself back to school to learn how to treat other people properly." Context: I have sickle cell. She's AA. Similar things have been said to me and she got triggered hearing it about you Timi. Anyone with sickle cell needs to have someone like my sister I think. You need the support to get through the times when someone else makes you feel inadequate.

I feel like you were narrating my own story a lot of the time. Very few people, even sicklers, recognize and respect the emotional impact this disease has. You're an inspiration, and I'll continue to follow your example throughout my life.
