Welcome to Salt City Hoops!
Founded in 2009, the blog features our written content, and on TH-cam we'll be featuring Dan Clayton's video series on trade deadlines, salary cap analysis, and breakdowns of on-court action, and Mark Pereira's titillating Live Postcast and Beer, a live show after every Jazz game to give musings on the game and have a beer (or three).
Dan (Twitter: @danclayt0n) has been writing and editing for Salt City Hoops since 2013, and took over as Managing Editor in 2018. Dan spent more than 10 years covering the Jazz for a variety of Spanish-language media outlets, including four years providing on-air commentary for the team’s Spanish radio broadcasts.
Mark (Twitter: @Mark_R_Pereira) hails from rural Western New York, and the first basketball game he ever saw was Game 3 of the '97 Finals, upon which he thought the Utah Jazz won the title (and wasn't corrected for an entire year). Mark's son Donovan may or may not be named after Donovan Mitchell.

A drunk!
Lauri is getting the ball a lot? What? Disagree. He should get the ball much more especially when his hot and during the last minutes.
Collin!
You talked about Lauri having a ball lot and that he should stumble to more assists. Have you actually looked up how fast he gets rid of the ball most time? It's a lot shorter than many of the other guys scoring same amount (who have or don't have assists). Also his efficiency does drop a lot when he holds the ball more. I would think Lauri has quite a lot of hockey assists (where he also some times yells to young guys to who to pass it for) or even him starting three pass link to the shooter/slasher. He also mentioned in an interview in his MIP year that he often sees a pass but that he doesn't (yet) have a handle to make it happen. So that's also part of the equation: if his handle improves, his assists might go up. So I don't disagree that he could be better passer, just that he often doesn't have the ball long enough to actually make a play happen for someone if it's not there already.
This is a great point w/r/t not just what Lauri does but also how the offense works in general. It's rare that Lauri is given the ball and just told to isolate his defender and make something happen. He's typically getting the ball on the move or a handoff or something where his angle is really to make something happen with the advantage given by the offensive set, and if the advantage isn't there, reset the ball by quickly giving it to the next guy. He's rarely asked to just make shit happen from nothing.
Love this! Mark and Dan are hands down the best coverage for Jazz obsessives, like me. Thoughtful and nuanced takes, as always. Great work, gentlemen!
Thanks friend!
I got your first like. This summer is going to be entertaining. What the FO does with Lauri is going to tell the fanbase so much. Is Walker secretly injured? Did he get dumped? Where is his anger, his fire, or any semblance of passion? The rookies are gonna be fine. They have so much talent. They have the drive, and they really enjoy one another. That's huge. Get THT and JC out of here asap. They are unwatchable. With the amount of assets the Jazz have will allow them to be players under the new CBA. We will see in June.
Love to be a part of the fellow sickos that are still watching!
Good analysis. Sexton is growing on me.
Can we also talk about how he’s not playing nearly not enough minutes in comparison to the other guards? It’s not that he’s not in their league it’s more so he’s not getting the same opportunities which he should!
✨ 'Promo SM'
Good analysis. Love the video format. More, please. If you could increase the input volume a bit, that would be a good thing.
Love this. But Ken needs to buy a new mic. :)
Great commentary. Thanks for the content!

I’ve always had trouble understanding cap sheets but you explain it in a way that’s makes it very easy to understand. Thanks! 😎

Greetings from the Italian JAZZ fans. we can't wait to start over! gooooo JAZZ!
Hopefully we see more fontecchio this season
@@tevindewitt44 great FONTECCHIO, I personally have been following JAZZ since 1978 they were still playing in NEW ORLEANS it was immediately love that lasts forever ... gooooo jazz !
Super nice package! Thanks a lot. Gave me loads of new information that I didn't know about the system. Love your excel 💫
"I feel like Walter White in Season 1. Hopefully I make better decisions." 😂😂👏👏
Very informative, thank you!
I will say this after this season Dunn is going to get a major multi year deal mark my words
Yes he is unless his stats from the last 21 games were a complete aberration. He was is a terrific pick up no one is talking about besides yourself.
@christianwilliams5016 Exactly! it's being reported that some insider's are claiming the Jazz want Dunn to compete to be their starting PG. Sexton is good, but when Kris Dunn has shooters around him, he can literally control an entire game similar to John Wall, especially on defense and pick and roll offense along with his newfound floater & 3 ball.......
I was curious about Kris Dunn contract situation. Thanks for the info, great work 👍
I really liked your show I'm a new Subscribe out of Utah, I look forward to watching you guys in the future, thX
I love the breakdowns, gents. Wouldn't it be wild if Clarkson picked up his option this year due to some of the reasons you cited? The limited number of teams that can pay him may not be to his liking and the moves the Jazz have made are in the right direction. Just a thought! I know that Dunn is not going to turn into DRose, but I could see him making another leap in his development. This situation for him is really the first year that he is healthy and working with a great org in the off-season. We shall see! Sexton is an interesting player. He is in a unique position, coming off a trade and the ACL rehab. I suspect that the front office will use this coming year to evaluate his progression and to find the role that he serves on this team. He could possibly play the role that Clarkson had as the sixth man. He has a lot of skills that the Jazz need. Let's see if he has taken that next step mentally. It is obvious that the Jazz love Sexton, because he is their poster child for everything. 😂 It would be great to see an established one on the floor that has proven their ability to set up an offense. Tyus, Malcolm, or even Delon Wright could be serviceable. Thank you both for a great pod! Awesome work
6:00, I don’t think you should graze over Booker being 13th here. It’s an important note that even in a 10-11 man draft, 13th turned out to be *this* good. Happens every year.
Excellent content
I loved this analysis. Please keep them coming!🤗🤠😎🤓
Love the John Collins trade reviews. Will be exciting to get him, if we could.
Great stuff!
