Same!
I did that double build in one week. Gotta try it.
Great video man. I own one nice epic pro from 2022 and been thinking a lot about this one. Just one small question related to comfort. It is suitable for marathon as well considering you mention it as even faster than old epics? Thanks mate!
Don’t hate on Carl Dolan, Marc 😂
Marc-E Marc, giving back to the sport, you are the man. Great show Donald! - Jeigh Tea
What up Homie 👍🏾 good stuff Guys 🔥
You should take your brakes to get check out at patapsco bicycles lol elvis will fix it for you 😅
He doesn’t use his brakes
@@blackandtan.0075faster lol
Electronic shifting is good for e-bikes where one gear at a time is best, on acoustic I'd take XT cable any day, Shimano has better cassette gear ratio gear jumps on lower gears. SRAM's 52t to 42t jump sucks, especially on tech climbs.
I agree but you get used to the jumps with Sram
Try to catch Paul slippin....you won't haha
So true
Change the maxxis tyres to schwalbe Racing Ralph/Ron, that makes a big difference. I have the 2024 Scalpel 1.
I’ve got to try the Schwalbe tires I know a lot of fast people that like them.
I grew up with a Cannondale f300. All the guys at the shop had scalpels. Fast forward 20 years and my ‘24 scalpel 3 is on the way. Great review!
Yeah they just came up with chisel fa, which is really camberlike
Paul is a live stenographer has all the notes
We didn’t know he did that but it doesn’t surprise us
Very true

Nice reveiw! I have a scalpel team 2022 with the lefty, its 100m back and front with lockout, xtr rides like a trail bike so plush don't feel tired on long rides.. kinda happy they didnt change too much with it, I think the next iteration they'll change the shock position like you said and go all electronic with no cables. would like to see an XC bike test, you have a nice selection there,
I've seen him not listen 😂😂
Hey Donald, great video, appreciate your content. I am looking at a discounted 2023 Epic Pro. I hear your comments about the rear brain though. I will be using it mainly for fire roads, smooth gravel, and then some singletrack and flowy XC trails. The most technical stuff in my area is a few root gardens. The bike is at a great price but I’m just concerned about the brain. How do you recommend it for the kind of riding I describe? Thanks for your time.
I think that’s the perfect terrain for that if you’re not an aggressive rider and you’re not doing a lot of jumping, the brain will work 👍
@@blackandtan.0075faster Thank you for the reply, appreciate it!
24#? I weighed my Large with tubeless, pedals and spare tube - 27.1# ready to ride. I was hoping for lower.
Hmmm that seems a little heavy
@@blackandtan.0075faster maybe my scale is off :)
Good content
😂😂 fight is over
Good stuff. I'm trying to blur the line of XC and downcountry with a build that I just finished using a Transition Spur frame that I built up to be just a hair below 23 lbs (including pedals, 150mm dropper, bottle cage, power meter, garmin mount). 'loving it. I'm planning another Ring attempt this year, but will also be racing XC on it too.
That’s lightweight
All the UCI mens and ladies teams used 120/120mm travel bikes at the Cape Epic. In the amateur field the bikes follow what the pro's are riding. Win on Sunday , sell on Monday
120mmis overkill for many xco racers. Also the long low slack thing comes from Enduro where those loud mouths were continuously calling for longer lower slack r bikes, journos icked this up especially that twat at Pink bike whats his kazzinamer ? Any way that guy an hsi influencers kept shouting longer lower slack and it became a mantra for people who ride bikes slowly downhill and mostly in straight lines so they could have a light bike. Basically hey ruined the XCO race bike. I now size down from medium to small and still ed up with a bike thats longer and slower than my 2018 bike
They have definitely changed
@@blackandtan.0075faster the bikes have changed as a result. I size down to keep the wheelbase growth in check. A medium 2018 scalpel had a wheelbase of 112cm, the new one is 117cm. That is quite a lot longer which makes it much harder to flick the bike through tight switchbacks. Slack head angle and long wheel base are both working against manoeuvrability
🙌🏼
Select + tune for Cannondale has a higher tuned threshold in the pedal position. For the life of me I don't understand why they didn't fit manual lock out
nicely packaged. Ziptying the chain to the chainring is clever, no more chipped bb shell paint work during shipping. Pity lefty is only available on the Lab71 in north america
I know, there’s a lot of Lefy fans out there that don’t want to spend that Lab money to get it
Im waiting for my new Scalpel 4 to arrive. I have all the fancy fixin's on my current Canyon Lux that ill be swapping once it arrives. She's gonna look sexy beside my Scalpel HT. Christmas in April, can't wait!!!
Great videos.. always good & detailed. Audio has been a bit off, but still great videos.
"promo sm" 😆
Hellabike! I have a few thoughts. I would love to see how 120/120 feels. Currently I ride a 130/130 and have it dialed in to use fully 130/130 when I’m riding hard. Curious if I would be disappointed with 120/120. Beautiful bike…maybe I’ll switch back to riding a Scalpel again. ;-) hopefully it not as twitchy. ;-)❤❤❤❤
Beside my yeti sb115 i love that pivot 429 looks nice
The 429 was my favorite bike for a really long time
@@blackandtan.0075faster never have one but looks like a lot of fun bike
Nice bike but i think specialized epic evo pro looks better
They are both really good looking bikes. I think manufacturers now realize that they have to make a bike look right as well as Good
@@blackandtan.0075faster yes sir having two water bottles is nice
the epic looks like it was put together with plumbing fittings
🔥🔥🔥
To me industry nine 1/1 hubs are the best sounding on the market They have the right amount of sound 👍
They do sound good
They’re junk.
@@gweflj tell us why you think they’re junk?
@@blackandtan.0075faster maybe you had a lamon. Had them for 2 years been great so far
@@blackandtan.0075faster The Hydra freehub relies on axle flex for pawl engagement. An absolutely flawed concept that leads to axle failures and freehub malfunction. The 1/1 design is superior to the Hydra but I have never seen so many hub shell failures from one brand as I9 - they crack at the crease under the spoke flange.
1) a 3mm drop in BB height is meaningless re: center of gravity and its affect on handling 2) lowering the BB doesn't change the fork rake (aka offset). It changes the head tube angle by ~.5 of a degree. The fork is the fork, the rake (offset) of the fork doesn't change.
You are 100% correct it doesn’t change the rake it is the headset angle. 👍
im not a big fan of specialized bikes but this one is nice i like it a lot but the price tag is a bit high ill stick with my canyon spectral
Try to get out on one if you have a shop that near you and let us know what you think compared to the Canyon.
@@blackandtan.0075faster I’m going to do that
Epic 8 is in my opinion a down country discipline and the 8 EVO is a trail bike. Not what I was expecting from the Epic 8, does not pedal like an Epic that I’m accustomed to and although flight attendant is next level tech my WC is lighter and pedals much more efficient.
So true where the Flight Attendant comes in, is slightly longer travel bikes and making them a more stable pedal platform
Ok so how different is it to the current stumpy? Which is the best all arounder at this point?
Last year we built a 26lb Stumpy in the attempt to make a bike just like the new Epic Evo. ( with out knowing it was coming out) The two bikes are different enough with travel and handling characteristics to say, if you’re riding chunky rocky trails go with the Stumpy, smoother, tighter but still aggressive trails go with the new Epic Evo. th-cam.com/users/shortstQ8NRK82gQs?si=KUIXWJGIf1EZjFZt
@@blackandtan.0075faster with both pro models being $2k different, still feel the same? Would you consider the stumpy overbiked for chill trails? I went from the epic evo 7 to stumpy evo. Stumpy evo is def a lot of bike but pedals well. I have dreams of hitting blue mountain lol but haven’t made it. Epic evo 8 looks good but no expert model?! Hard to justify 8500 even after selling the stumpy for like 4-5k max (I added transmission). Just hard to figure it all out to have ONE perfect bike for a bit of everything.
Damn Paul this is getting DEEP
I know right, but that why I call him “Captain Competitive”
What a beast of a bike. Down-country has never looked this capable. I'm gonna have to drop by and see this in person👀
Do it soon it won’t last
❤❤❤ Love my Camber!!! Love this more😊
Nice bike ya make this fun
That bike looks sweet
The future is here. one of my favorite episodes brother
