I have always seen tube testers as go, no go devices. The real truth about a tube is how it preforms in the circuit. Slightly weak tubes some times are fine in use.

Did you check for continuity through the radio? This sounds like maybe an open switch, or an open tube filament. How about the switch that determines if it runs off the battery or the ac line?

Interresting antenna. Seems to be a frame antenna but what does a frame antenna need a shield for... and the label on the antenna says no wires and no ground nessecary... strange, Please kill the music.

You've got a VERY INTERESTING radio video 📻 📹!! There's something about these old wooden radios. Quality went into them, and they were built by proud 👏 American workers. Just turning the volume knob on, and waiting for the radio to warm up was the best part. The glow (and the smell) of the tubes. The warm sound they produced. It was GREAT, listening to the ball game 🏑. These were functional pieces of art 🎨. Not Walmart garbage of today. The worst kind of capacitors in these is the bumblebees. They leak an oily like matter, and go POP!! It is best to replace bumblebees with capacitors that are less prone to going POP!! Just subbed!! Your friend, Jeff!!

You may have noticed this upon editing, but if not: @10:05 on the 30µF cap, your cap tester is actually showing 22.3 *nano*Farads, and continues to display nanoFarad values on all the other sections of that filter cap.

You went in and found the problem. Good lesson learned when it comes to taking photos/ video of the before to confirm the mistake and go to correct it. Finding what was wrong otherwise could have taken hours or days! Cleverly designed AC/DC override switch on the Philco. She works great after alignment.

A wire wrapped around a capacitor that goes from one end of the cap to chassis is a choke. It was there to keep signals from maritime AM broadcasts from overloading the signal path in AGC circuits. Those maritime radios don't exist anymore as they broadcast in the FM band now. It was found in many radios back then and can be replaced with a ordinary cap of the same value to chassis ground. Mr. Carlson didn't even know that but I did. Thanks to my grandpa for telling me that when I asked him some 50 years ago. It is on the diagram as C 27 with the coil as L2 and goes to C28 to ground.

Great chassis. I've owned an AC70 chassis in a different cabinet for nearly forty years and until recently, never did any work to it. A solid performer.

I have the same unit. fully restored all caps and re-aligned. unfortunately heat and bad environment from antiques shop i bought it from has ruined face plate. it has slowly begun curling. not to mention also the cat urine . but it performs o.k.

Your backwards cap blew the binding wire off the rectifier (it happens). It is a safety device they put in rectifier tubes to act as a fuse to help save the transformer.
