I completely agree with everything you said. The writers clearly wanted to cut down pieces of the book to make the show shorter not realising the importance of these ‘small details’. I still have hope that the second season will be better as Holly will be more in control.

i have seen the show but not read the book and i thought it was ok but the mystery was not really solved in a compelling way the dog dying felt like it came out of nowhere and was really out of step with the tone of the rest of the show it felt very lighthearted and child friendly most of the time and then we would get random scenes with extremely adult subject matter but still the same childish dialogue and overall tone somehow

Okay, I'm going to rant a little bit: I agree on pretty much all of your points. I listened to the audiobook version of AGGGTM multiple times and got the collectors' editions of the books recently but I was so excited for the show, I could see everything so clearly in my mind but I just feel like the series was simply lacking. They changed so many things we love about the books and I was sooo sad about how Pip wasn't really Pip in the tv show. Her nervous facts and clever investigating was taken away but one of the things I missed the most was the relationship between Pip and Ravi! The amazing connection and the chemistry! I get that they tried to put in some moments to build up their romantic relationship but I just didn't feel it. And I feel like their relationship, while always romantic, was first and foremost a deep connection that was established with true understanding and empathy between the two. ALSO I feel like Kara changed so much ! Maybe it's just because I listened to the audiobook version and an actor brought a certain character to life but that also couldn't have been done without the lines written in the book. Maybe that's just me but I just felt that Kara was a completely different person in the show than in the books.

i was weirded out by the change of first full (because i actually kinda liked the andie opening) scene, like there could have been such a cool opening with a shot of the Singh's house from behind pip's head and we follow her as she walks down the path, then we see her face for the first time as her reflection in the door but noooo, ravi can't enter on the equivalent of page 2, we have to wait TEN MINUTES to see him instead, we get an attempted establishment of pip's "good girl" title in the corner shop, which started the cliff dive of my hopes for the show she's all on about "ooooh i don't want to break the law" like girl that is not my pip, who immediately disobeys the conditions of her epq by interacting with the Singhs and the bells and is all gung-ho about trespassing

I just watched episode 1 and dropped it--hard agree that my disappointment helped me appreciate the book even more! The overall narrative is really lacking without Pip's POV
