9:40 Gandy Dancer is my daughter's favorite. The tip-in for the run is near the village, right next to where the ski school used to be with all the beginners. When she was 8-10 years old, she would slowly back up to it and tip-in switch with a play-acting worried look on her face. The adults who were in the ski school would just freak out about the little girl "falling backwards" down this bluerun. She thought it was hilarious. She'd then go back up the Ballhooter lift and ski switch back to the ski school area. Good times.
9:30 Gunther's Way might be the best run in the Southeast. Not crowded (most find the tip-in intimidating, I assume) and a ton of fun to rip down.
Absolutely! Loved skiing that run. Thanks for watching!
I love Snowshoe. Silver Creek nearby if snowshoe is a bit too crowded (there's a bus connecting them too). One big annoyance is that Snowshoe is in the National Radio Quiet Zone. So there is no mobile (4G/5G) signal basically anywhere. A tip: turn off Mobile Network on your phone while you're on the slopes to save a lot of battery power.
Great tips! Thanks for watching :)
The Creek is clutch when there's a nice powder dump overnight and everyone and their mother flocks to the Shoe and they only get in 2-3 runs before lunch because the lift lines start halfway up the mountain. It's not the biggest or best, but there's just a reality good vibe.
Agree 100%, love skiing Silver Creek when Snowshoe gets busy. Thanks for watching!
The key here is that Bear Claw and Flying Eagle are blacks that I have lapped with nobody else on the mountain but me, three lift operators, and one ski patroller. I must have lapped them a dozen times in about 90 minutes.
Sounds like a great day to me! Thanks for watching.
Great video this helped me a lot. You really deserve more subs.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching! Hoping to get a lot more uploaded this season!
Love the format of your videos, really nice to see each trail you took on the map before the footage itself. Can't wait to see you visit more east coast resorts!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching! Hoping to get to at least 5 more mountains this season, more if we have a good snow season.
Just went yesterday. Spent nearly the entire day on appaltizer then tried strudel a few times
Good stuff! Keep at it and you'll be cruising the main hill in no time :)
Yeah, I it hit Widow maker once and I absolutely trucked this little kid going at least 40 MPH. He was NOT okay. Other than that Snowshoe is great!
Just got done watching all the videos you have posted. Hope you do more this season! Love this format.
Thank you so much for watching all my videos! That really means a lot to me. Planning to get the rest of the NC mountains and some in VA this year if I can swing it!
This is the exact kind of video I was looking for. It's very enjoyable and informative. Do you have one for Beech Mtn? We are going to Sugar and Beech in a few weeks, and I've wanted to show my kids what to expect in this kind of video.
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. I unfortunately was not able to get to Beech last year as they had an issue getting all of their runs open. I do plan to go this year though!
Great video! Every resort should post something like this. It didn't look very crowded (by Sugar standards) so you must've been up there on a weekday. I always liked Sugar Slalom, but the only way to reach it is via Tom Terrific (they used to have a T-bar). I've pestered Gunther, the owner, to cut in a cat track behind Tom to allow access to Slalom for people who don't have good enough health insurance to ski Tom Terrific, but no dice.
Thank you so much for watching! That's a really great point, there's really not a great way to access Sugar Slalom without risking a fall. Maybe one day!
is switchback not your requested cat track?
@@pithub6903 Nope, I was looking at the other side of the mountain, behind Tom Terrific. The trail map shows such a track, but it's not really there. I tried to attach a jpg for clarity, but got frustrated w/ YT and gave up. If you pull up the trail map and look above and to the left of Tom you'll see the area.
@@alonzobrickman7418 ah yes i see, you're right. thanks for clarifiying!
I’m going in January for the 4th time and considering western territory for the first time, but I’m super nervous and not sure if I’m ready 😂
Enjoy your trip! I would see how confident you feel on Widowmaker before heading over to the Western Territory. Have fun!
@ I have done that one 2 or 3 times without falling but I was FLYING 😂 50mph according to my gps
@@mattjudy7263 If you can hit 50 mph on Widowmaker I bet you'd be okay on Cupp 😂 Just be sure to go a little slower and not straightline Lower Cupp, it's steeper than the video does justice. Be safe and have fun!
@ that was my problem, I was forced to straight line out of panic 😂😂😂
Great video. Love natural sounds and no stupid music
Thank you so much! That's partially why I started making videos. Just wanted to make them simple with a focus on the runs!
Great video. I’m going mid December on a Tuesday. Think it’ll be very quiet?
Thank you so much for watching! I would bet that you won't have too much trouble with lines, especially if you plan on skiing the Western Territory.
Is there anywhere to sled for the kids?
Thanks for watching! No sledding hill, but there is a skating rink.
What time is the year would be best. To hopefully have good conditions?
Thanks for watching! I would say mid January through February, it's starts to get dicey once the calendar turns to March.
Those conditions are about as good as it gets on sugar, and relatively uncrowded too! Gunthers is so rippable, love that run.
Thank you for watching! Yes, the conditions were amazing that day. It had been a long time since I've had a ski day that good in the southeast!
*As a Vermonter relocated to Western NC...................um yaaa.....*
Yeah... our skiing is definitely not as good down here. I have a video on Sugar Mountain as well, which in my opinion is the best in NC. Won't come close to the Northeast but there is better variety and longer runs.
no more jay peak for you lol
But it's like 15 minutes from my house and I can ski for $45 after work.. so yeah.
How Icy is it. I can't wait to go in January
It might come down to luck. Chances are you will hit some ice patches but Snowshoe does a good job keeping them covered for the most part.
I worked for the past two years as one of the internationals there, usually January they were able to do a good amount of with machines and we got some natural snowfall as well
@victormartini7035 awesome. I'm going in Jan, Feb, and Mar.
That lift is wild, I've seen so many people get bumped off because they don't keep that area leveled off and it's always flying through the loading area. Last time I was there the couple in front of me just got sent flying over the hill by it.
That's wild! And here I thought I caught a rare occurrence on camera haha
You should go to winter place! It’s in West Virginia as well!
Thank you for watching! Hoping to get there this year
do you like it better than snowshoe 🤔 i’m coming up to virginia for the season. trying to pick the best bang for my buck so to speak.
@matthewgarcia9502 never been put planing a trip. There's a sale going on for Snowshoe Dec 19-22.
@@matthewgarcia9502 My personal preference is Snowshoe but you'll enjoy yourself at either mountain!
I live in the south where we have no ski shops. Where can I get a good used pair of skis?
@TheOutdoorsDaddy the best time is to buy after or towards the end of the season at a demo shop at a ski area if you can’t do that i would try a website called evo hope this helps
What part of the south? There are some good ski shops in Asheville and the mountains and of NC. There is apparently as ski shop in Charlotte NC and Columbia SC but I’ve never seen them. Edit: I just found out there are a couple ski shops around Atlanta and there are a bunch in Miami.
@@Brosef336 Savannah, GA
I got all my gear when I lived out in Denver so unfortunately I don't have a great answer for you. Best of luck in your search!
Instant sub and watching all of your videos right now. Very useful stuff
Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoy my videos. Hoping to upload a lot more this season!
Great terrain recon for anyone planning on visiting the ski hill.
Thank you so much!
LOL the stickers were one of my main complaints as well the first time I went up, though toward the end of last season they did have a couple of options, but unfortunately it was either really small or big and gaudy. Nice guide to the mountain! I've been up a few times from Northern GA, but they've only had 7-8 trails open on those trips. Hoping to catch it at some point when they've got the whole mountain open. Fun midweek day trip for a 4 hour morning pass with the place to yourself, but it gets pretty dangerous with the crowds on weekends, especially if there isn't much open and it's icy. Apparently they added a new trail where if they get enough snow the owner opens up the big field to the right of the main lift up top and you can come down through it.
Thank you so much for watching! I didn't know that they ever opened up the hill next to it. That would be really fun to try out. Hoping to get there again next season for sure. Cheers!
this whole video was him dodging kids/ new people randomly cutting lol
Pretty much my whole day 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Closest mountain to Charlotte, that's how it be. On the weekend you gotta be on it first thing - and you *might* get 2.5 hours before the crowds make it untenable. Unless it's raining lol.
And snowboarders laying in the middle of the run.
Rlly awesome and helpful video
Thank you for watching!
I very much enjoyed your video! I am a new Snowboarder and went to Sugar, Beech, App , and Snowshoe in virginia but missed out on Cataloochee on my recent visit to the region! Glad to see it from this perspective and I hope you make some more videos!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🔥🔥🔥🤙
Thank you so much for watching! I am almost finished with my Sugar video and should have videos for Snowshoe and Silver Creek after that. I appreciate your kind words!
Always a token Bluetooth speaker guy on hill. 😂
Always 😂😂
Just came from there yesterday . Been here overall two times and this place gives you a lot of confidence as a beginner
Glad to hear you had a great experience! Which run is your favorite?
Looking to move to NC. Thx for the video
NC is a great place to live!
Love it dude!!! Making me want to get out there ASAP!
Thank you so much for watching!
great video! You should do one for beech, cat, and sugar!
Thank you for watching! I skied Cataloochee yesterday, and I am hoping to ski Beech and Sugar when Beech gets the West Bowl lift fixed. I plan on uploading Cataloochee soon!
Awesome! I can't wait till they finish west bowl. @@theskiingcartographer
Thank u! Im 10 but i ski big sky. I will sign the waiver and ski the park
