Headliners at TD JazzYYC Summer Festival 2024
This summer's festival features an incredible lineup of international musicians (and some local) from a variety of jazz genres and styles. The Grammy-winning Composer, Producer, Multi-instrumentalist, all around keyboard master, Cory Henry is at the Bella Concert Hall to start things off on Tuesday June 25. Two nights later the rollicking psychedelic styles of Sunny Jain’s Wild Wild East will shake Commonwealth Bar and Stage, and we're happy to say Calgary's Madhuban Performing Arts will be opening. One of this generation's finest and most dazzling jazz singers on the planet, Veronica Swift, will be at the Bella Concert Hall Friday June 28, and finally the 3x Grammy- nominated New York-based saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin will play Calgary Public Library Saturday night.

    Dear Caity. Please, let's use the software ''Transcribe''- a music player, which allows to mark bars, change tempos, equilise for better hearing, transpose up/down, tune up/down etc.. 1. We mark mesures/bars on this soft. So, as bar one is ready we listen directly bar 2 etc. 2. we divide screen so that the Transcribe and the notation software are both besides. That's how I do... and earn...

    Wow really great! how long did it take you to commit that solo to memory? You nailed that. That is a great solo I can see why you like it. How can I get that recording? Is it on CD or TH-cam? I also like your comping on your original. I have a E to C bass as well. I need to learn how to do that.

    Hello Sir... I hope you're doing well😄 I have a question regarding the Yamaha TRBX 305 guitar It comes with a low 'B' string tuning.. My question is, Can I rearrange the strings on the same guitar to get a high 'C' tuning? Or does it require a nut and bridge modification? I want a high 'C' string instead of the low 'B' string, because I rarely use the low B string.

      ik it’s a year later but you probably just need to adjust the action and the neck ever so slightly, you can get a luthier at a shop to do it for you if you’d like.

    My ear is far from perfect. In that, my ear couldn't help but focus on the voicing in the opening piece. Well done! The delay in the second piece was fighting with the harmonics. At least, that's what my ear heard. I'm no Jedi ear.

    0:15 2 years later we’re playing that piece again except I’m on lead trombone this time, when we did it 2 years ago I was on 2nd. Also other than me the lab band is a completely different crowd of people now. I guess that’s what happens when you’re in a group long enough. I was in grade 10 at the time so I was one of the least experienced in the band. I had a really good 2 1/2 years playing in this Band and my Jazz trombone playing improved a lot since I first joined in February of 2021. It will be great performing this and many other charts at our last gig of the year on July 2nd. I’m also planning to continue at least next year and most likely the year after that.

    Excellent tune and use of chords. I am thinking about the same setup after having tried fivers with B to G and a six. For the songs I play I get into trouble with the B string and on the 4 use a hipshot bass extender to get down to D.

  • @Bassman1964
    @Bassman1964 ปีที่แล้ว

    You Sir are a BadAss, 30ish years ago when five strings became common I wondered why everybody wanted that low B that was barely Audible and slop, I have a kubicki X Factor that lets me get to a low D with no tension loss and extra 2 frets on the E but I wondered why was nobody making a bass that went up? Well 30 years later I guess that I literally missed the phone call somewhere telling me to think outside the box as I see a lot of players have gone that way and just this week saw Scott Devine playing the high five as you call it so looks like I will be adding a new bass to my Arsenal this week, fantastic song and playing..

  • @shayneoneill1506
    @shayneoneill1506 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been thinking a bit about the standard low B tuning, and it struck me were doing the low tuning all wrong. If we take that whole tuning and just notch it down a semitone, we get a B flat tuned bass. You see where I'm going here yeah? For Rock and roll the regular B is great, because it puts a big chunky C right on the first fret which just works great for my favorite rock tuning, C minor, and then E on the second is great for guitarist songs which tend toward Emin (Or Amin) . But as someone whos primarily Bass and Piano, I really like Cmin. BUT this is a problem when I'm dealing with brass, because it would be SO nice to anchor that Bflat right down in the basement of the sound, that low low string. But its a Semi too high. So. Detune everything down a fret. Now the bass guitar is suddenly a Bflat instrument, viola!
