    How many layers of glazing is typical, and do you need to let it dry between layers? What it the advantage of using this technique over alla prima?

    • @KaustavMukherjeeFineArt
      @KaustavMukherjeeFineArt หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is my first full scale glazed painting took about 8-9 layers. However, Titian said even 40 aren't enough. Layers need to be dry. Glazed painting is shiny glassy refined like a finely cut jewel. Very difficult to achieve this effect with impressionistic alla prima.

    I searched for a video just like this. I have giant tube of alizarin crimson and it's my go-to red for colour mixing, because it does both good oranges and flesh colours and a good purple blue with cobalt teal. It perfect except for the light fastness problems which is why I need a substitute for paintings that are going to be given to other people. Right now I'm testing primary magenta and permanent alizarin chrimson hue (both Schmincke Norma) and both are frustrating to work with. Thr magenta is a bit to cool so the oranges are a bit less juicy and rhe permanent alizarin chrimson hue is a bit darker and more brown than the deal so it mutes my purple blues when used with cobalt teal. Maybe I'll try the quin rose... Daniel Smith is quite expensive though. In the long run I want a red that can play peacefully with both my lemon yellow and my cobalt teal.

      I don't use any solvent for heath reasons. When you spread lesser amount of paint over a broader area paint becomes thon already. When you paint upper layers mix a tiny drop of oil to it and paint

  • @jonyoder2356

    Would be much more helpful if each mixture wasn’t contaminated with the white that has a different blue in it. The Prussian and Phthalo blue in the white will have a very large influence on the mixtures with the other blues. The purples and greens would be much different from each other as well. I’m not trying to be a jerk but cringe when comparison test demos aren’t done in a way for the results to be accurately shown to those watching in hopes of learning.

    • @lophoflora
      @lophoflora 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good video on the blacks! I didn't care much for black paint in oils but, recently, I bought two blacks from Rublev by Natural Pigments: Natural Black Oxide and Roman Black. One darker and neutral, much like a Mars Black but with a different consistency, other more transparent and warm, great for mixing. Being oxides, both dry relatively quickly. Very good paints without additives or fillers. Unfortunately, that paint brand is too expensive for me and they come only in 50ml tubes. From them, I only have those two blacks, two whites (Titanium White, pure, without zinc oxide, extremely powerful, and with a consistency very different from the other brands, sometimes not in a good way, stringy) Lithopone, a more transparent white, that I use for mixing) and one earth tone, the less expensive type of pigment: Venetian Red. Some of the other colors are very expensive and some are toxic. They don't sell over retailers. Out of America they only have, I think, one business that sells their products in UK and one european website that sells from Germany.

      Titanium white provides good idea about pigment's nature and most commonly used white today. Check a Rublev video on Prussian Phthalo and natural Indigo shows how well Titanium shows the nature of pigments.

    • @polarcollision
      @polarcollision 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree that because PB29 is transparent, the opaque and cooling titanium white overtakes the nuance of the two colors. With a transparent white, the chroma is higher in french ultramarine blue. I find that winsor newton and dan smith have this highest chroma french ultramarine oil paints. RIP DS oils.
