How to Turn and Steer a horse made easy.
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is to aid those that want to understand the function of turning a horse, this explains in simple terms riders position, how we hold our arms, use our hands, and also leg position. Conformation plays a big part and it affects our body and seat. This classical method helps in training the horse to develop better flexibility, creating better circles and lateral movements, from this trot...

This is Bernie when I introduced him to doing both legs in Spanish walk, it takes a lot of concentration and his brain is working overtime. Moving the hind legs will come later with confidence.

One of the best explanations and examples of these lateral movements that even a novice like myself can understand! This is a wonderful little video! Thank you!
Sorry I have not replied earlier, just seen your comment, and thank you.
Thank you for sharing. Lovely to see.
Thank you.
Thank you
O QUE VALE NESSE VIDEO SÃO OS BELISSIMOS CAVALOS.!
I love this Common sense easy to grasp reminders. Of our body actions and how easy we can influence through body alignment the horse and why this alignment is easy for the horse to understand . A must watch more than once THANK YOU RICHARD
Thank you for your kind words Linda, I find many get caught up trying to action many different parts of their body at the same time, and lose focus, and riding should be simple so the horse understands.
Applause richard!!!
Thank you for your comment.
Very interesting!
Glad you think so!
Well explained, Richard. Thanks.
You're very welcome
I love this! It really does make it simpler. I tried it yesterday afternoon - with the hands as you you described, and the minimal torso rotation. Not having to hold my hands further forward (instead having permission to hold them where I'd always wanted to for comfort) caused my whole body to be more relaxed - shoulders, back, legs. What a relief! My mare was grateful and sends her thanks. This is inspiring. Thank you!
Riding is supposed to be enjoyable for both parties.
Very helpful tutorial, thank-you! I'm curious about the bit, is it a curb, or just hanging-cheek w/ no curb? (Still trying different options with my mare. Recently a classical trainer put a D bit on her to assist with lateral movement and bend at the poll. But when I ride her with it she is resistant to direction - but was fine in loose ring).
Hi Betsey this bit is a Porugeuse curb I have, but this also is a trained horse the bit is not there to aid the movement. As to the snaffle the action is completely different and how we use it, you may find this other tutorial of interest. th-cam.com/video/ZyJIJ3ofdrU/w-d-xo.html
@@Merceode Thanks for the explanation! I'll certainly watch the tutorial.
@@fieldflowers_ Sorry I made a mistake it is a Spanish Vaquera bit, got muddled up and didn't check.
@@Merceode Thanks! I would've thought they were the same, but now know better. :)
@@fieldflowers_ It is often the case that some like the idea of making understanding complicated, this can confuse and then is taken to the horse who prefers simple.
Very nice video Richard, thank you! Modern competitional riding does not teach the subtle aids, that's why we see riders' hands and postures the way you say, and unlike what you demonstrate.
Lets face it any aid can only be subtle if the horse understands it well first.
@@Merceode you're right. But we educate the horse by our actions and examples. It's as they say: if you only shout, then they won't listen to you when you whisper.
Fantastic explanation. Please do more instructional videos. :)
Thanks, aim to.
@@Merceode Yes, please !
@@drorydressage Aim to, need to find the time and the weather.
@@Merceode That's great to hear. I'm looking forwards to more content.
@@drorydressage As do I.
That is so simple and wonderfully explained. Thank you for starting with the use of our bodies as most riders do appear like rigid entities rather than a flowing relaxed harmony in action. I look forward to the next video. xx
Thank you for you nice words I do like simple, people make riding so complicated and if understood it's not really.
Lovely demonstration. Thank you. Showing to my students.
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful and such a calm minded horse - looks beautiful
Thank you Emma this is Maraagel aka Bernie, an ex race horse who came from the track with anxiety issues and was not a safe ride.
mesmerizing~~
Thank you.
