Wonderland Trail 2024
14 day trip around Mt. Rainier. The trail included a large portion of the Northern Loop. Shawn and I teamed up for this hike. What beautiful trip.

This started as a 4 day/5 night adventure. After hiking 11 miles I took a spill while crawling over a downed tree. I sprained my big toe. I hobbled into camp. I assessed the injury and concluded it would be better to hike out rather than hike further into the wilderness. It was a good choice considering what the toe looks like now. I still had a great time and hope you like all the waterfalls p...

This started as a 40 Mile Loop. Day 1, I found myself 1.5 miles from camp suffering from Heat Exhaustion. It took all day to put myself in this bad situation. The horse flies and mosquitoes were relentless making stoping inconvenient. I tried to rehydrate but I was puking it back up. I was sweating, but chilled….vomiting, found my mind wandering…simple tasks required concentration, shadows on m...

What's the color of the hammock? Cannot tell if it is dark foliage or olive green
Best photos of you backpacking yet! Beautiful video!
So nice to see the views. Thanks for sharing your adventures! Song name? Fitting!

Just curious, what was the temperature, mileage/elevation covered, and what could you have done differently to avoid heat exhaustion in retrospect? Good on you for turning back and calling it.
@@KidsIdaho mid 90’s…I covered 11 miles to the lake. My biggest mistake was not letting myself stop, rest, and hydrate. I was “strong willed”. I was slightly annoyed at the massive amounts of horse flies that were biting me. Yes I applied deet. They didn’t care. So I kept moving. I’m 60 years old but still think I’m 30. My body doesn’t work like it used to. So, long answer to an easy question. Hydrate, electrolytes, eat, rest, and have the temp 10-15 degrees cooler. This was my mistake. I’m sharing so others may see what might happen to their body.
Another thought. When it did get to that place….i was trained what to do. I was an EMT for many years. That kicked in and I was able to self treat. So, learn basic first aid and be proficient in its application.
@@explorationnorthwest Thank you for the feedback and responses. I'm heading out on a trip tomorrow (hight temps) with four others and I'm always a get out early and beat the heat kind of hiker and they are not. I'm trying to have us avoid what happened to you from happening to us. Luckily we are all first aid certified and have one doc in the group in case something does happen. Happy hiking!
@@KidsIdaho I am jealous. Eying the forcast…still too warm for at least 7-10 days. I need to get one more trip in before Aug 20. I leave for the wonderland trail for 13 days. Good luck to you and your group. Hike strong!
wow that really sucks. I plan on being up there in a week and hope to cover 50 miles of trail. The heat is something to consider for sure.
Yep. I let it catch me.

That is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing

An uptick in ticks, yuck!
Yes that looks like mill creek! Scappoose creek is bigger.
Loved the violet penstemon, yellow balsamroot and red Indian paintbrush wildflowers. Were your boots, socks & pants sprayed with permethrin?
Boots / Gaiters …yes Socks no Shorts no. I’ve never had so many though. A few and it’s just kinda the way it is…
@@explorationnorthwest wow! I’d have thought boots & gaiters would’ve been sufficient!
The brush was so tight to the trail too. You had to rub when walking thru. 3 made it thru my defenses and were on my back neck line when I got home. They were starting their burrowing but hadn’t tipped yet.

just look at the falls
very beautiful hiking scenery, thanks for sharing with us, following and Like 3
Thank you for sharing! ❤ so beautiful

Around the 5:09 mark, if you listen closely you will hear the clucking sound of the chukar partridge or just chukar. I was trying to get a better sound but the wind blocked it out.
Loved the cross country bushwhacking! And balsamroot flowers! So different than your Wonderland Trail videos
Thanks for the plant identification. And yes much different than the WT.
Wow! So many questions! 1. Why was it so quiet..no birds, no wind, no squirrels? Creepy 2. Why wasn’t there any other people around, no other hikers? 3. So remote and you’re all alone….did u carry a weapon, axe, cellphone had bars? Scary 4. What’s up with the soapy water, and that gelatinous green ooze from the scummy pipe? Dude, u drank that? 5. Was that Three Sisters in the distance; how far were u from Belknap Crater? U should not hike out there alone, if something happens to you like getting attacked by the Giant Tick Monster, you’re screwed. Someone should sue the Oregon Forestry Dept. putting a trail thru a burn zone and building the most lame ass ‘bridges’ I’ve ever seen. Thanks for sharing your top ten trails to avoid….❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂
I lived in Eugene. I actually liked Willamette Pass a little better!
I’ve never made it there…I was told it was good though.
I love how you disappeared into the woods 😊
I loved disappearing into the woods……I definitely had in the right colors to do so.
Great views from up there!! Merry Christmas Frank!!
Love the Ochocos, and the way you included a map at the end! Keep it up!
Thank you….i like going East.
Merry Christmas!
Glad to see you out and about!😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful! Thanks for taking us along!

To bypass bad sheaths, dull blades, bad quality control go with ESEE

Nice to relive the hike thanks for the time and video! Our group also set out Aug 21st. Did the creepy fox noises wake you up at Golden Lake too?

I got one recently and the grind was terrible, the fit and finish is not what they produced 10 years ago. I don't know what happened that they went so far down hill but the guys that designed the RAT knives left and started their own company Esee that is FAR superior. Good review!
