Great video. One of the reasons my wife and I are looking at a 4WT, for dry camping in our trailer. Everywhere we like to camp is under 150 miles away
@@jasondesjarlais5507 It worked great. You need to have access to a charger if you stay several days. This makes camping at the national parks much easier and comfortable!
Great and informative, thanks for sharing. Looks like a great setup.

Does yours have air suspension? I don’t tow anything, but I want one for long distance travel such as from San Diego to Yellow Stone National Park. An air suspension certainly helps during the long drive.
@@louisasians7938 No air suspension on mine. You can get it. Just takes $$.
Greetings from germany.
@DenoSarhos Greetings
do you think it can run a small welder? also do all the silverado EV work trucks come with the same battery? or is there different size batteries
@@pigslayer106 it should be able to. It is rated 20 amp/125V or 30 amp/240V. The Silverado EV comes in two battery sizes currently. 210 kWh and 175 kWh.
@@rustyhardison9530 just bought a 2025 LT ev today... wish me luck
@ Enjoy! I think you will love it.
@ check to see if your power base works. I hear that some are not working. GM needs to fix this.
Oh good Lord this is not a vacation. Your tow 400 mi away and then you get to figure out how to charge yourself back up by bringing a generator lol You can forget boondocking. Or you can spend thousands on generators and solar panels or be stuck with going with an RV site with full amenities and hope everything is working and hope you can have the right adapters at the RV park to get back. No thank you. The new tech is quite interesting but there's no way in hell I'm going far away pulling a trailer and relying the possibility of having the energy to get back.
@@DanBlackRacing It is not that bad. It does take more planning. I had rather boondock with this truck. You can power the camper without a generator. There just needs to be charging infrastructure nearby. Similar to you needing a gas station nearby.
@@rustyhardison9530 Boondocking is when the ISN'T a charging infrastructure nearby. lol It's camping off-grid.

@@toddfountain8531 yes the plugs work while driving.
I wish I had of seen this prior to buying the adaptor. I’m hoping GM may fix it with a future update. I was hoping to be able to charge at some campgrounds that only have the 30 amps. Has your truck taken any software updates and your power base no longer works? I see some complaining in the forums as they can no longer activate the power base
@@havnfunb4 Bummer about no 30 amps. That was my plan as well. I have not taken the truck in for any software updates. GM is not software capable enough to update over the air. In this case I am glad. My Power Base still works. I just have to keep an extra cover open with a tennis ball. 🎾
@@rustyhardison9530 some GM do over the air. My wife’s Equinox EV does. Maybe it’s just the WT’s that don’t. I plan on getting the Silverado EV LT and I’m hoping they get the bugs worked out. I would like to use it for power outages or for powering a camper off grid
I totaled the charging costs you showed and it came to $895.16, is that about right?
@@ShaunSee Yes. That is correct. Pretty expensive. I think it is the same or slightly higher than gas prices right now on a road trip. Still much cheaper at home.
My wife and I are looking at doing the exact same thing. Glad we found you, gonna run through the rest of your videos for more info. Go camping more so we can learn more! ;)
@@ShaunSee Welcome. We will go camping some more. We are having our first grand baby in January and are getting distracted with that.
What’s the tennis ball hack? Why needed?
@@408cw7 You have to keep more than one plug cover open with something like a tennis ball to prevent the PowerBase from blinking the power every few minutes. GM engineering…
Got it.
I bought the safe for that location and I feel like that's the best mod :-)
Thanks for producing this video, it shares very helpful and informative real world information. I’m an ICE guy at heart but I also know this is the future. I’ve always contended that once the legacy car makers entered the market we would see what is possible. We are now witnessing it. Chevy has done an amazing job with this truck. I’m waiting to mile out my ICE vehicle and will moving into an EV next.

Is this the 3wt or the 4wt?

@@JAYWAY1982 I bought an SD card and installed it. No luck. The software is not enabled yet. 😩
Could it be the wrong sd type?
@ maybe, but I don’t think so.
I feel like the silverado EV is t best out of all the electric EVs for axtual truck stuff has the largest range by a lot even when towing and has the best charging speeds as well with its 800v battery architecture the lightning,R1T and Cybertruck max have nicer interiors but if i got an Electric truck for doing work it would definitely be the Silverado
‘I can feel the camper but it’s not pushing me around at all” Doesn’t the Silverado weigh 10000 lbs?
Almost, 8600lbs for the WT trim
@ the wt trim is the fleet trim right? How did this guy get his hands on this?
@Steve-qn8gn If you rent one which is pretty easy to find, it'll be a WT trim. I rented them a couple times from Dallas airport through National.
@@Steve-qn8gn Dealers are selling the WT trim. You have to buy it off the lot. You can’t order on from GM’s website.
I like how it shows how much miles you get from regeneration. I havent seen that on any ev ive owned since 2012.
Makes sense given the Silverado EV is very much more meant to be a work truck so you want more info
Thanks for the video. Im hoping when its time i can get a silverado ev it has a few more xomfortd like heated seats or steering wheel kinda stuff. It gets cold up in canada.
@@tysonb1486 The LT should solve that problem. It just doesn’t have the biggest battery.
Why did it show 501 miles? I thought the max range was 450
@@robinsonlantigua5908 it depends on your recent driving style. My recent trips had been slower speeds and gentle driving giving an estimated range of 501 miles.
You mentioned liking super cruise, you can get that on the w/t trim?

Rusty, what exact model of the Yakima bike rack is that?
@@johnberti It is various Yakima parts put together. It did not come as a single unit.
Thanks for the trip review. I definitely think that's the best method for traveling: Make a 10 to 15 minute stops for breaks, and charge deeper on meal stops. Having 400+ miles pretty much eliminates the need for trip planning. I stopped by Kanab Visitor Center when I took my Bolt EV up to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, but they didn't have any chargers at that point. I ended up charging overnight at the Tesla destination chargers at the local hotel/motel. DCFC at the Visitor Center would have been really helpful.

Why not charge overnight at a campground? Fold up the back seat, put down a mat, leave the AC on. Fill up battery for $30.
Would work. I did that a few times in my Tesla Model S.
Do the Brake lights Light when the regen is used? I have rented the truck and it regened very hard but I was concerned about someone behind me hitting the quick deceleration.
Thanks for the info. Ive been watching videos on this truck and the info software does seem to be a nightmare. Bad design/layout and lots of freezing and speradic missing "close" buttons. Service, I saw the light bell? Perhaps a software update for the info screen?
@@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER There have been a few hiccups, but not bad overall.
I see that car rental agencies are selling their unused Chevy work trucks. How is the seating arrangement for your wife? I am worried about my 5'4" wife seeing the road. Otherwise I would go buy one of these Wt trucks.
The truck display said "kW". This isn't the same as "kWh". "kW" is an instant measurement. Maybe your maximum power draw? Look at the manual on what this number means.
Great stuff Rusty. I’m thinking hard about the Sierra AT4 when it comes out, and putting something like a 4 Wheel Camper on the back. I’ll say that what’s holding us back is the bad charging experiences we’ve had in our little Bolt. I’m in California where we have too many EVs for the number of chargers. So I’m looking forward to your long term experience. And we have friends up in Johnson City and down in Thomaston, GA so it’s fun to see that beautiful part of the country.
You are missing a third data column. Miles/kWh for an empty truck.

Thanks for sharing your towing stats Rusty. I have a Sierra EV with the same battery, and I’ve had a similar experience, towing is great, much more fun than my F150. It pulled my 9,000lb travel trailer camper 208mi on a single charge at 60mph. Weight distribution hitch was used.

Can you please share more info on the lane keep and adaptive cruise control? Does it follow the car in front of you and does it keep you in your lane, or is it bouncing you off of the lane markings?
@@johnkhalil9831 Lane keep assist bounces me off the lane markings. Not lane centering. Only somewhat useful in my opinion. Adaptive cruise is great. Follows car ahead and adjusts speed to match.

Thanks for sharing. Can't waiting for a Suburban version with that battery.
You and me both!
Thank you for the details! I am also looking at this truck.
Wife and I are seriously considering making the jump. Would you say it's fair to assume one could travel approximately 3 hours between charging stops w/o getting range anxiety? Using your trailer as a bench mark. Interestingly, I watched another video where they towed 10k up and over a pretty gnarly mountain at freezing. A mix of paved and rough gravel roads. It was an 85 mile loop and the truck was capable of making 3 loops. Lastly, I am assuming this is a 4WT?
@@ShaunSee Yes it is a 4WT. Yes I think you can assume 3 hours of range. That depends on your trailer, speed, terrain, and weather conditions. If make the jump, I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
“Equivalent to a gas truck” - with the fuel costs of a Toyota Prius. Recent prices here in Michigan were $3.50/gal for gasoline and $0.15/kWh for home charging. At those rates, the Prius at 50 MPG costs 7 cents per mile to fuel. Your truck at 2.1 miles/kWhr costs the same 7 cents per mile. But you obviously have a quicker and much more practical and capable vehicle. And at nearly 500 miles of range, you get to largely avoid the worst part of EV ownership - DC fast charging on the road. You’ve made a wise choice. Thanks for the video.
This is the exact same set up I plan to get. Truck and camper. Thanks very much for this, really appreciate it. Hello from Belize and Guatemala.
