I'm a huge fan of horror films, and I did like this one, but didn't love it. Why? Bc it was trying to present too many horror film elements rather than focusing on one clear storyline. We had the opening scene in The Neighborhood. We had the teenage girls going to the carnival to find dates - and then that has an unexpected twist. We had the back-in-time storyline about a busload of kids, which is retold by a Mean Middle School Girl who wants her groupies to scare another classmate. Lots going on, and really, if they eliminated the girls/carnival storyline, it would have been much more cohesive and maybe we would have better connected to one of the characters so we would care what happened to them. Thanks for your review - I think we both had bigger expectations for this one.

Yeah this was not the same quality Star Trek movie in this series (next gen). If it were an episode on tv, I would have changed the channel, but I hung in there hoping it would pick up and have more engaging dialogue and/or action. Won’t watch this one again.

I saw this movie the night it premiered in 1996. The theatre was packed full o' nerds and it was amazing. After all these years, I still watch it just for the Battle of Sector 001 and the Enterprise-E, which in my opinion, was the sexiest, most bad-ass ship in Starfleet. To this day, the Sovereign-class is still one of my absolute favorites, right up there with the Defiant and Galaxy-classes.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie despite some of the very "cliche" writing that was in it (especially when they were on Earth). It was nice to see the character Lily humanize Picard and remind him that he could do better despite his urge to want to take revenge on what the Borg did to him personally.

  • @DoremiFasolatido1979

It was an alright movie. The worst thing they ever did to the Borg was add a Queen, though. People are so limited in their thinking and creativity that they can't conceive of a "hive mind" as anything but what they see in Ant colonies and Beehives. And those aren't even hiveminds. They're just the same sort of social structure any other species has, but with particular components that allow more direct influence. Workers in those hives generally don't have much thought of their own, they're like robots. And the pheromones of the queen give them only simple instructions that they can't really disregard. The Borg were something entirely different. The idea was supposed to be that the drones are "drones" because their brain power is instead contributing to the collective mind. No individual controls it...there's just a meta-mind that emerges from the aggregation of all of its component minds, which then overrides all those component minds. What was a good idea...and something they should've stuck with...was the notion of cutting off chunks of the Collective and having those chunks end up differentiating themselves from the original Collective. Like...Hugh got separated, and his return started to reinfect the Collective with individuality. It would make sense that the Collective, if it couldn't STOP that wave of new individuality, would instead sever all the affected drones/ships and probably try to destroy them. But it's unlikely they'd get 'em all, so a new group of Borg would form, having to go through the growing pains of sorting out their individuality from the fact that they're all still in a collective with one another (but separated from the original). That would be really interesting. Or, the Collective gets SO big...that the overmind starts to develop dissociative identity disorder, and begins to split into several overminds. One fixates on the status quo, and severs itself from the rest, seeking an adaptation to prevent that problem from occurring again, and then looking to assimilate other civilizations again (and possibly reacquire the other collectives). Meanwhile, the rest eventually also separate from one another, each leading to a different "flavor" of Borg. One might become fixated on assimilating only the absolute BEST of the best, and either simply enslaving or destroying all who don't measure up. Another might be choosy about who and what it assimilates because it's obsessed with scientific discovery...and it doesn't care about consumption or expansion...only exploration and knowledge. Another still might wind up turning to diplomacy. Offering a mix of individuality and connection to the Collective, but only to the willing...without force or any coercion...like a technological hippie commune. Maybe a couple of splinters could've had something like the Queen, or Locutus...or Lore... Each with their own obsessions or other behaviors. But always there'd still be the main Collective...the originals. The living artificial disaster of galactic proportions.

This could have been so much better if they had developed the 3rd act by integrating more "leading information" in the body of the film. Yes, I like the surprising details revealed, but that storyline could have been more engaging had we gotten a better sense of how and why the characters came to be together in the same place in the forest. And then, rather that expand on their discovery, it falls flat. I watched this movie twice, and even when I knew the outcome, I came away disappointed.

I completely agree, the premise is stupid: We have a highly contagious virus, so in an emergency instead of having people do a lockdown in their apartments, that are relative secure against the infected (they don't have superstreng) and we can contain and segregate the infected, oh no, the protocol is to have everyone locked, unsupervised in a single giant room, that way a single infected can infect the most of people possible.

This movie was so good, so many things to consider due to the fact-based accounting. Cultural differences, between how we solve problems (no more dueling to the death) to wives who were considered property rather than individuals, to hierarchy. And by telling the story through different perspectives of our main characters, it kept me on the edge of my seat at times, looking for any differences or subtleties that might be present and being value to the way we choose to believe what really happened. And I believe that the pandemic caused the low audience turnout/success of this and many other movies that were released in this timeframe.

Yeah, usually if I’ve never heard of a movie - never saw a trailer or pop up ad or any of the cast members showing up on late night tv for a spot - then it’s a hard pass for me. If the producers didn’t care enough to promote it, I’m not going to care enough to watch it.

Here's a review of your review: You look like someone is holding you hostage. I didn't make it past 00:57 seconds. You put no thought or real effort into this video. That pretty much sums up the sheer laziness of this production, and lack of critical thinking for everything that exits out of the mumbling hole on your face. 28 Weeks Later came out 17 years ago, which is probably about the time you suffered severe head trauma. Fast forward to 2024, you're recollecting thoughts about the past and thought it'd be a good idea to limp dick almost 6 whole minutes of someone's life regarding a movie most people have forgotten about. Well, not me. Good day to you, sir. 0/10
