Releasing Spike in the 2023 Breeding Pen
มุมมอง 1248 หลายเดือนก่อน
We are asked how we manage our bucks in rut - as we have several. They spend most of the year in a bachelor pen with bucks of all ages - up to 25 of them! For breeding season, we select those that we think will produce the traits we are looking for. Our buck pen is on the opposite side of the property from doe pens and breeding pens. To put bucks in breeding pens, we catch them in a catch pen, ...

Kiko Goat Kids Eating Dirt at Kopf Canyon Ranch
มุมมอง 161ปีที่แล้ว
Why are the baby goats eating dirt? Are they deficient in something? No...they are fine. They are babies, and goat kids, like two-leggeds, explore the world with their mouth. Their dam, KCR Blaupunkt, is available, and clearly has plenty of milk, so they are not hungry- just kids being kids!
PUPDATE: Using a Dog to Herd Goats
มุมมอง 123ปีที่แล้ว
Our Australian Shepherd, Levi, is a year and a half old now. He is coming into his own, and a huge help on the ranch. With our kids all grown, it is just the two of us, we just don't have enough hands between us, and we aren't as agile as we used to be - so we decided to get a puppy. He has had no formal training - just informal experience - but his instincts are spot on - and he is smart. The ...
A Quick Parade of the 2022 Kiko Doe Selection
มุมมอง 209ปีที่แล้ว
With all of the goats appearing available on our website, our fans have expressed concern that we may be getting out of the goat business. We most certainly are not - offering goats is part of the business! We love our goats and can't imagine the canyon without them. The canyon NEEDS goats to be healthy and safe. Here is a quick parade of the 2022 selection of does that are being retained as re...
PUPDATE: 7 Month Old LGD Puppies

WHAT are they doing? Did they kill a goat? Tillie and Sadie are seven months old now and working in the doe/kid pasture. While it looks alarming, it is really quite innocent. Amos, our Pyr/Maremma cross shed ridiculous amounts of hair...and puppies being puppies, love to play with it. Sometimes they are excellent guardians and work hard - but sometimes the world goes on around them while they p...
Calling In a Free-Ranging Kiko Goat Herd
มุมมอง 3092 ปีที่แล้ว
Every morning, we let the herd out to free-range on the canyon. We have no idea where they go...it is too steep and rugged to follow them. It is hard to tell in the video, but they are climbing a steep incline...and this is a gentle slope. They are coming from the bottom of the east canyon...it drops off again on both sides of the green meadow. If you look closely you can see them come up out o...
Kiko Goats on Spring Forage with LGD and Herding Dog
มุมมอง 1492 ปีที่แล้ว
Watch the herd free-range in the canyon with dogs. Miss Kitty is the LGD that free-ranges. She was born on the ranch and raised in the pasture, and is now 2 1/2 years old. She is a GP/Akbash cross. Also in the video is Levi, a one year old Australian Shepherd. Notice how differently they are interacting with the herd. While it isn't in this video, when it is time to return to the rim pasture, L...
So Much Rain - Baby Goat Plays on Rocks in Puddles

Triplets Born On Pasture to First Freshener Easter Morning
มุมมอง 2082 ปีที่แล้ว
As awful as the wind and snow were last night, it drove the cold front out. We are already 42F today and we watched the snow melt it came off so quickly! The sun is glorious - what a perfect day to be born on pasture! First freshener KCR Casseopeia, a quadruplet out of Dutchess, presented triplets - two doelings and a buckling.

Have you had trouble with goats getting broken legs from getting their legs stuck between another goat's horns? I realized most of my goats have a pretty wide gap between their horns, but these guys seem to have much more narrow gaps.

    • @kopfcanyonranch

It can definitely happen! When it does, it is usually intentional and a culling trait in our herd.

@@kopfcanyonranchI've had it happen a few times without serious injury. One time I heard screaming at 2 am so I ran to the barn and there was a leg stuck that I got loose. Sometimes I think the does who have it happen must be trying not to break the other goat's leg.

A friend had pyr/newfie mix. She shared her doghouse (with gravity feeder inside, on the back wall) with their male pig. Watching her dive into a pack of coyotes was…terrifying and awesome all at once. The female pig and goats were inside a fence at night, while the male pig was with her in the main pasture with horses, mini horses, ponies, and cattle. The rest of their dogs would herd a coyote pack right to her, if given the chance. They did so often when they had puppies on the property.

We feed ours pretty much the same exact way. Ours are trained that any human, big or small, is boss and they have to step away from their food if anyone walks up, including little kids. Alpha eats first then the rest in order of age. They do protect their food from the goats and we allow this. Never have had any ‘attacks’ but have had some snaps and growls. Sheep and goats need to be put in place. Our largest male has pushed his limits with the others by dominating them and taking their food and even water access but corrected by me putting him in place. Praise works wonders. Our biggest issue is them flipping the bowls and burying the food with their noses.

It could be the line my pyr was bred from (Impyrial Pyrenees) but I can hug him, pet him, kiss his face - and if anything he stops eating to give me slobber love just like yours. He’s the most loyal dog I’ve ever owned, but I also don’t make it a habit to bother him and set him up for failure. Your dogs are beautiful, great features and well bred! Very much pyrs, not the golden retriever/lab looking ones people claim are pyrs - you can tell just by their facial features.

  • @mikebauss2925
    @mikebauss2925 ปีที่แล้ว

My pyrenees eat at 5am and 5pm approx 4cups for 140 lb male and 3cups for 95 lb female. Male waits until female is completely done and walks away. If she comes back to her bowl after he has begun eating he will growl at her but ignore her if she begins to eat again. My female will sometimes give her peanut butter cookies to the male.

Her goats use to roam free, but we are still working on the fence for them so I think she is also lonely. She’s really use to being with them 24/7. I’m trying to work all these things out….
