    Great design... have a Norwood mill...their dogs are junk...your design is better...very much like the ones Hudson Mills make...which I have made...they have both the log dog snd the back stop...on a common peice of square tubing... work well...👍

    Weld a C shaped piece to the back side of your log dog clamp for more hand space to release the dog

    A log deck is the most overlooked component in bandsaw milling when it comes to increasing your productivity. I ended up fabricating log decks and jib crane for both my bandmill and circle mill. I can load it full in the morning, have a helper cleaning and peeling logs while I run logs through the mill and offloading onto my other deck behind the. Don't have to stop to load logs w/ a tractor or pull cut lumber from the mill so it's a 2x increase in productivity. Nice bandmill you put together. Regards.

    Just send the end of you handle to 90 degs and it will give you more room to fit your fingers in to release. Nice video

    What about a 2 day old. Having hard time breathing? She was eating fine off a bottle early a.m. and now she's gone lifeless with gasps of air. Is she a loss or should we keep reviving her?

    Nice job on your log dogs! Your mill looks great. I am in the process of converting my 36 year old band mill to an adjustable head unit. I will be copying your dogs. Very much like your concept of repositioning, if needed.

    What is your power plant and how does it work? Looks like a Honda single cylinder 12hp?

    • @thefarmlife2958
      @thefarmlife2958 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes an older single cylinder 13hp works great I'm sure the bigger the better but the price was right and it works great. When buying a clutch for it buy the most robust one you can get I went through two of the cheaper go kart ones and then finaly spent the money I should have the first time and haven't had an issue since. Happy milling!

    • @wallygoots
      @wallygoots 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thefarmlife2958 Thanks! Really helpful. Linn mills sell a clutch I'll buy that is quality and rated up to 20hp. I'm thinking the 16hp Kholer or 13hp Honda to stay in my $800 budget. Sure would like the vtwin 20hp but $500 more. Slightly tempted by 18hp Duromax for $350 to get started with. Excited to build.

    I'm getting ready to build my own mill with a Linn Lumber mill head. I like the log dogs solution you designed and will likely give that a try.

    • @thefarmlife2958
      @thefarmlife2958 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One improvement I would make is give yourself more room to grasp the handle. When it is good and tight its a little tricky to release. I hope to hear how your build goes!

    • @wallygoots
      @wallygoots 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for responding. I'll let you know how it goes (probably end of summer). I can't think of a reason not to make the handles a little longer as it appears the clamping force means really yanking on them in your and maybe weld a hand grasp on back side of each handle?

    If you extended the length of your 1/2"sq. stock cam handle, it would lend more fulcrum leverage. And as you pointed out, a little more bend at the end of the handle, less pain onna filanges.

      Dear Sir, Thank you very much for your courteous reply. I must say feeling trees with an excavator is a very novel & ingenious way ( not to mention quiet & more efficient ) to removing them. Your machine must be in the region of 12 tons or thereabouts??? Kind regards.

    New sub from Jim’s TTC, hi! Could you add an extension to the ends of your locking cams making them slightly longer? if you shaped them such that you could get your fingers underneath with the extra length they’d be easier to undo and lock due to the extra leverage. Cheers Graham

    • @thefarmlife2958
      @thefarmlife2958 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Graham Monaghan welcome! Jim has a great thing going! I am thinking I should be able to bend them out about which should help and if the extra leverage is needed I'll use your idea and add an extension. Take care!
