You can use your oven in the kitchen, use an oven thermometer. The thermometer is important.

Air dry clay is just the way the clay hardens and there are so many different air dry clays. Some are based on paper and others on flour and yet some are based on glue. The common thing is though that they harden in the air, not by baking. I am so happy to hear that you are taking your time to test and make sure that the product is of good quality before you start selling. I would suggest that you switch from air drying to polymer clay. Polymer clay is always hardened by baking it in the oven. I know some air drying clays claim to be polymer clay but that is false. Polymer clay always needs to be baked. Take a look at the rest of my videos, there is so much you can learn from them so you can develop your skills so that you end up with a high-quality product. Yes, the clay is somewhat flexible after correct baking. How flexible depends on the thickness. Thicker clay, like beads, will of course not be flexible while thinner flat pieces will. Tack. Nej det behövs inte lack men det är inte meningen att man skall slänga ner örhängena i en låda full av smycken, det är ett mycket tunt lager så om man tar i kan man så klart skrapa bort guldet. It is much simpler than the multi-layered mokume gane you see most of the time. Therefore I jokingly called the video mokume cheat.

It does work. Make sure you use regular non-coated paper, the kind you use in your printer. And if needed, let the clay sit longer on the paper. If after mixing it, you think it is still too soft, repeat the process until you are happy with the result.

It is not that it is hard to bake it. If you bake Fimo at 130C (265F) it will be strong. Look at the back of the package and you will see that 130 is even mentioned there. But at 130 the lighter colors MAY darken and the white may turn pinkish. So I always say that if you want your white to be white, just avoid Fimo in white color and use another brand for white (or all together)

Buffing doesn´t really produce microplastics and with wet sanding, you don't get any particles flying in the air. Your air is actually full of microplastics already from your furniture and clothes but if you wet sand the dust is bound in the water.

Thank you! I totally understand why you may think that conditioning is a factor in the strength of the final product since it is often repeated but that is actually a myth. Baking and a strong brand of clay are the keys to a strong final product. I actually made a video about that too, check it out th-cam.com/video/jvk0GIxmnH0/w-d-xo.html Over-conditioning will instead introduce air bubbles into the clay, one only needs to condition until the clay is easy to work with, and that´s it. As for the placement of the thermometer, the best place for it is as close to the items you are baking as possible and if you cover your work, under whatever you use to cover it. You want to know the temperature where the clay is not anywhere else in the oven. Using 2 thermometers is not bad, especially if you are just starting to get to know your oven.

@Hobbyrian, thank you so much for your response. I mostly agree with you. I remember my first projects would snap, after having dedicated hours and love to make them, you can understand the disappointment. I agree that the right temperature and long baking are the important factors for a strong project. Having said this, I remember when I first followed a tutorial some years ago, we were told that proper conditioning plays an important role in the result of the project as well. Proper conditioning to the point, when folding the clay, you shouldn't see any cracks. My oven is not accurate so definitely I needed a thermometer. But to be on the safe side, I use 2 thermometers 😂

@@annitagalvan9049 I have a test for you to do, bake side by side a slice directly from the block and a well-conditioned equal-in-size piece at the same time. Make sure to bake them with an oven thermometer. After baking, test them and see if you can notice a difference in strength, and get back to me with your result.
