Great show...long Jams similar to the Brothers but had their own flavor..little more country or Americana-like. The first third of the set was a little stiff and tentative but they caught their stride about the half way point and had some great intensity. They did blue sky into Melissa in the first half and though the crowd dug it, it wasn't their best stuff. They did an instrumental number and some slower original stuff that had immense feeling and that's when their music took off. Devon Almann sings different than Gregg but he plays and sings with more energy and his voice seems more versatile than his father. His guitar playing (he's not an organ player) took off in the second set. He's very assertive and had some great blues leads late in the set. Duane Betts' voice is in the DNA from his father. His guitar playing isn't quite at the virtuoso level as Dickie but he is still a formidable guitarist. Duane's niche really came out when he sang a slower number he wrote about his grandmother's property having to do with a river. The encore was Statesboro Blues which was played to the note from the Almann Brothers version. Fun to hear the entire crowd singing that song lyric for lyric..and in key. Devon is more the entertainer of the two. Their Almann Brothers' covers are rather gluten free attempts at honoring their Dads but they shine in their own material. I really liked it. Strangely I might have been one of the younger souls there. It felt like a bunch of parents come to watch their kids gig. I'd definitely see them again but would prefer seeing them do their own stuff going forward. That's my review.
