Exploring the UK one hike at a time
Pen Y Fan via Pont ar Daf Car Park | Brecon Beacons | Hiking
I know it's a Mountain and not a hill, but Pen Y Fan from the Pont ar Daf Car Park was giving me Mam Tor vibes! (there is limited free car parking further along the A470 in the Storey Arms car park)
Pont ar Daf Car Park postocde - LD3 8NL (£7.50 to park all day unless you are a National Trust member in which case it's free).
It's a very beautiful, straightforward route to the top.
There is a nice path that makes the walk easy enough, although you will still work up a sweat as it's steep in places.

Join me on a recent circular hike up Moel Siabod. I got to the top just before sunset, wild camped and left at sunrise. The weather was poor, sunrise looked dissapointing at first, but after descending a little way down the mountain, I was gifted with some AMAZING sunrise views! Parking for this route - Gatesgarth Farm Parking - CA13 9XA £4 per day. This was a stunning route, taking in Scale Force, Red Pike, High Stil and High Crag. The route down was a bit slippy when the temperatures dropped so I would definitely recommend using an alternative way down if the conditions aren't perfect. Cheers mate, Hope you are well? I have only done Mam Tor up the side, I didn't even realise there was a nice easy route up it until the 2nd time I did it lol. Not sure where I am going next...hopefully the lakes this month to bag a few more Wainwrights with the Mrs!

@@Hiking.and.mountains Hi mate. I’m hoping to do Mellbreak and Hen Combe. Should be pretty quiet during the week. If I want real solitude I go in to the Forest of Bowland. I can walk for hours and miles there and not see a sole. 👍
Nice walk up there , great views and moody sky like it! Good visit to Craig Gwaun Taf at the end! It’s a beautiful mountain on a weekday evening, not in the summer months to beat the crowds, if you get a chance to revisit. I’m the same as you I massively overpack but have that anxiety of needing something lol. Occasionally I do a hike were I use everything in my bag and all layers and feel smug after that lol . I bet it's absolutely stunning at Sunset on a weekday! I'll definitely go again, but will 100% aim for the quieter times and maybe a quieter way up like you did! Ha.... I am yet to use everything in my bag but I always feel like I might lol. Have a good weekend!

It’s decent to sit on mate! Just keeping the channel ticking over until i’m in the lakes this weekend! I wish I lived nearer the Mountains !! I’d be up them every week!
@Hiking.and.mountains I think you will do well on reviews. Have a look at channel called the walking Kev. He lives near me. His video's are very good but he doesn't get many views. He reviews aldi backpacks lidl hiking boots etc and get brilliant views on that. Worth Looking at mucker. You speak well and film well, I'm pretty rough😂 and crap with tech. I'm very fortunate I've got mountain all around me and walk often just don't film it all.
@@JamieHarding5 Cheers mate appreciate it, i'll check him out. TH-cam can be crazy sometimes, i've seen some great channels that don't have anywhere near as many followers as they should. Your vids are great! You can't tell that you are crap with tech lol.

Thanks for watching mate. The mic used in this vid is a Tonor TC30 usb mic that I use for voiceovers. £26 on amazon at the moment.
@@Hiking.and.mountains nice man, definitely can invest in that without breaking the bank as need one for voiceovers, my wireless one is a Fulaim x5 cost me £80 making do till I save up for a DJI one 😀
@@Stewartway yea I was dubious when I got it as it was quite cheap but it’s actually decent. I just lost a DJI mic up a mountain 🤦♂️ Devastated! Those Fulaim mics look good. How you got on with it?

Definitely. I was in a cloud when I wild camped so had to just lay down inside all night 😂 but for a nice day, it wouldn’t have been a problem. I’ve got a tarp for next time just in case.

Best of advice we had when hiking in mud recently, just go through the lowest point, you'll probably slip into it anyway if you try and avoid it. Granted this was in Hawaii and the mud / water wasn't freezing cold!!
I’ll pack my micro spikes next time the weather is like this for some extra grip and i’ll bring my trekking poles. Sliding in mud in Hawaii sounds fun 😂🌴
Some parts of California are beautiful, but this makes me miss home, the UK. Stunning views.
