    Thanks for this, really resonated. I got better much quicker by writing down and diarising post-roll. But the biggest gains have come from realising that positional sparring is about implementing technique not letting my ego try and win the round. Way less injuries too

    My little one goes three times a week , going on his 17 th month , at 14 months he took gold in his bracket beating three people in his first comp, we could possibly go more but he has a good balance with other hobby’s but very happy with bjj journey so far

    I train five days during the week and usually an open mat on the weekends. I find myself usually ahead of folks who don't train at least 3 - 4 days a week minimum.

      I train 5 days a week but on odd weeks, I actually train 6 to keep things even. Plus I only use 1/2 my technique on 1/3 of the days which doubles my progression.

      You should be studying instructionals as much as you can but don’t study more than training.

      Theres always value in instructionals. Apply what you learn in class plus instructionals in each roll during the week. Don't only study the instructional though actually focus on implementing what you learned

    Josh I’m enjoying the advice. And all your videos. I feel like what your are saying differently will take certain amount of discipline. I don’t know how many time I went to train with an idea of what I’m going to do only to be driving home and realizing that I went into auto pilot with the class. I love the idea and the way you present it. I’m gonna give it a go and let you know how that concentrated effort work on two of my weaker areas. Also it would be real cool if you did a live session on how a session would look with the structure you described. A lot of us get pigeonhole into going with the masses and not training to better than the average guy. Does that make sense. Regards, Lucky

    i try my best to follow this approach, still a blue belt, "technically" i have to compete again before i get my purple, but i really enjoy the way you break this down. im at about year 3 and there is only a few people who can legitimately catch me in competitive rolls throughout the 2 gyms i go to. however i need more people my size to get a more accurate identification of my overall skillset.

    I train twice maybe three times a week, i find progress slow. Im 48 so maybe its age. I find drilling far better than trying to learn new stuff

      As a 41 yo WB that has been training 1 day week (work schedule) for 9 months. I keep my game simple half-guard and smash pass to mount. I have won both my age group and White/blue belt absolute in the Two tournaments I have participated in.

    There’s the Seven Hermetic Principles, look them up if you have a chance. Interestingly enough, the first one says that the universe is mental, the mind or thought, however you want to interpret it. It goes to what you were saying regarding thought and imagining. The remaining six principles work off the first, but are pretty impressive on their own. Nice podcast, good information.
