Blowing steam up the Devils Nose: Ecuador 2007
Filmed in 2007 this is probably one of the last runs of Baldwin 2-8-0 No 17 up the Devil's Nose to Alausi in Ecuador before the railway was closed and subsequently rebuilt. Rebuilding was completed in 2012 restoring the full link between Guayaquil on the coast and Quito the capital which had been severed in several places in recent years due to landslips, bridge washouts etc. But as recent TH-c...

The people who built these rail tracks deserve the highest accolades for their hard slog and skill.
Um abraço pra todos meus amigos e irmãos do Equador ❤❤❤❤ok
💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪❤️👍💯
Bela região , muito bacana a ferrovia ! 👏👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷
...A very efficiently-sized railway! The rail cars are comparable in size to motor cars on the adjacent roadway but, could carry several times as many passengers to within a mile or kilometre of anywhere motor cars on roadways go, reducing the need for inefficient motor car use, accommodated by privately-operated taxis, jitneys or rickshaws to and from stops about every mile or kilometre along each rail line to and from door-to-door points. Many transit systems could be readily and easily built and run alongside main roadways about a mile or kilometre apart, diverging as fork lines about every 5 miles or 8 kilometres away from county seats, using this size of railway. Amenities such as sandwich and lavatory cars can be afforded onboard vestibule trains to accommodate busy passengers enroute.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 🦋beautiful ❤️❤️🦋
Peccato.
Amazing thank you, wish I was there.
Ferrocarril
First time for me to see this video. I did a trip with RTC a few years before 2007 and I can still remember much of it. This video is one of the best I have seen of the ascent of the Devil's Nose. I assume you had several runs at it, or there were multiple people taking video. Whatever, it's a first class record of how things used to be.
BELLISSIMO E LA CONTINUZIONE?
Note the locomotive was an oil burner. We had them in NZ up until 1966.

Is it still going ?
Fabulous
A great memory. I did this trip in 1947 when I was 5 years old, and can remember the switchbacks very clearly, We had taken a ferry from Guayaquil to Duran, where the train left in the pre-dawn. We got to Ambato in the late afternoon where we left the train and took a hired car to Banos, a hot spring resort . There were perhaps 5 or 6 passenger cars on the train as well as some general freight. We sat in the rear observation car which I think was a premium ticket, but a great place to get a firm lifetime memory. I am now 82 and remember it like it was yesterday. We lived at Portovelo, a gold mine in Provedencia El Ore.
Puts the Blue Mountains line west of Sydney to shame!
At 82 your memories like it was yesterday..
A MOST FANTASTIC NARROW-GAUGE STEAM JOURNEY....!! ;-)

As a young lad growing up in British India, living in Calcutta at the time. I had the privilege to be sent to boarding school GOETHALS MEMORIAL SCHOOL, KURSEONG, 30 km. from Darjeeling. Back in the day, the Toy Train ran regular services from Siliguri to Darjeeling. When we arrived at Siliguri after a 'two-day' journey from Calcutta the students were always excited to board the Toy Train reserved especially for us. We had our own 'Siding' a special STOP at the entrance to our school. As you can imagine the Toy Train full to capacity with very mischievous young boys it was a nightmare for the teachers to keep us under control. 2018, I have just recently visited the school which stands on a hilltop and clearly visible from the train with a large sign painted on a wall GOETHALS MEMORIAL SCHOOL. Misty water-colored memories of the way we were Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind Smiles we gave to one another for the way we were Can it be that it was all so simple then Or has time rewritten every line If we had the chance to do it all again Tell me, would we? Could we? THANKS FOR A WONDERFUL VIDEO. I am often been asked how I got to school back n the day, and in this respect, I would like to ask your permission to use a one-minute clip showing the Toy Train in full steam. I will give credit and title of your video to follow up. Thanks.

Super👍👍
The operation is now more corporate as it caters towards tourists traveling from afar. The good news is, the old steam engines are still used for parts of the journey for the "Tren Ecuador," but unfortunately the train is now SUPER EXPENSIVE to ride.
❤❤❤
👌👌😊🌍🚩
Steam engine??
Ffta
....The Highway & Road drivers are absolutely insane!!!!..... The D&H 0-4-0T locomotives must have the ugliest proportions of any steam locomotives on earth..... but then as they say "Form Follows Function", and function they did!!
Bel filmato interessante. Viva l'Eritrea !!!
👌👌
