I'm reading 'Driven' rn and it is so beautifully written. Melissa Stephenson uses such colorful words and has a unique way of describing her experiences. I was instantly hooked (even shed a tear) by the prologue. ❤️ I love how every chapter in the book is a different car. It's like thats how she remembers the chapters of her life, by the cars. I just love it.

This is Mike Carson, UE, and glad to hear your poem, Linda. I caught the news on the Humanities website with joy, then got the full measure when I heard and saw you reading. I am so glad to know that you are out there and in the flow still. Amen to your beautiful poem. The ending is the perfect note, the uplift. Yes. God bless, Mike Carson (Makes me want to try to write an eclipse poem)

If the borders of our country had been patrolled and fairly dealt with, as far as allowing immigrants to enter, we, who paid thousands of dollars to these culinary schools, would have had a chance to build a career and expand food ideas and establish the importance of cooks, bakers, and all the Food Service Industry in our society. Look what we have today. Most restaurants have the same basic menu items. The cold kitchen has been obliterated. Pre-made, frozen food is now part of the offerings and specially pre-made desserts made in warehouses and distributed to many restaurants making the menu a copy-cat effect. Just awful!

i agree with you on the immigration aspect undercutting the value of a line cook. but there has never been a better time to be a chef with your own concept.

Very awesome video. It's a shame what the river has become now vs what it once was 150 years ago. Same can be said for many of the lakes, marshes, and other rivers of the region. All in the name of progress. Sadly sometimes progress is the true evil.

Went to CIA, was planning just AOS but got a bachelor BPS there because my parents forced me. Thank goodness I got a degree. It opened doors. While I watched my AOS friends suffer during internship. Mine was with a large corporation paying $35/hr providing a luxury apartment. First job went straight into management at 5 star hotels because of my degree. Six figures but hours were long. There I watched line level staff work hard and suffer by mistreatment, low wage, and burn out… some can never progress because they don’t have a degree no matter how talented they were. Covid hit, I got offered a job in the healthcare nutrition sector. Continue to make six figures but work less then 40 hours a week. Sometimes remote, etc. I’m not the best chef when it comes to fine dining because I never was a line cook. Didn’t have to experience that side of the business. Jumped right past that into management all because of a bachelors degree and all this happened within 5 years of graduating. Yes.. some of it is luck and good work ethic. But, the companies would have not even talked to me if they didn’t first see a bachelors degree.
