As a ball player Kuroko is an exaggeration of players special traits or abilities (ball handling, shooting, speed, hops etc.) when players grow into their own n develop new skills on top of there mastered one ex. A windmill layup from the right to the left a simple “double clutch could b done but cuz it’s mastered u add some jelly to it” what I like bout kuroko is it shows that now shits definitely in an extreme way like midorima shootin full courts n aomine drawin a foul throwin it behind his back. But it’s the expression of the moveset showing how skilled players develop their skill to a point where it seems like they got “powers” or “abilities”

imo. slam dunk is a better show because it shows you that "mamba mentality" state you need to get to become good at what you're trying to achieve. in the other hand kuroko's basketball is made to make you love basketball at first. so i recommend watch koruko's basketball at first if ur a complete novice to this sport and then slam dunk.

Man I love slam dunk, and I’m sorry I couldn’t bare watching kuroko no basket, it just felt way too shonen for my liking, I understand why some people like it but for me nothing can beat slam dunk when it come to being realistic but fun at the same time, some anime’s try to be realistic but by doing that they take the fun away but slam dunk did it perfectly.

I personally thought this film was good. It was nice to see Indigenous Australians portayed as people deserving of dignity & respect. Yes, it was a film about an emotional journey moe than anything else but, it was quite well written & Simone Landers played her role as Thoomi very well.

The reason Egon had it out for Ulrich is because he saw his face in the "satinist kid murderer" from 1953. He associated it with some evil from birth look. Teen Ulrich being a rebel and listening to metal just helped confirm his bias

I both love this anime. their equally awesome to me. Maybe I just like how Kuroko na basuke's interpretation of the best player in each team. Enter the zone which specifically is just playing much harder than anyone else with extreme focus plus the undeniable talent. I like at the end part of the anime too when they show that the real zone is making your team mates join you in the zone which only means a 100% team chemistry just like how a number of championship teams are in sport.

I agree with most points you guys made. Also that old man side quest, totally stole the main plot, wasting time searching for an old record with not much interactions happening. While the side characters are barely used, they always at the same place.. The thing that really annoying me, was the jump cuts during important moments, you expect a emotional scene, but it cuts to the next scene or day, for example (during the phone exchange, and when the record broke.) And all the times things were happening through plot conveniences. It's uneven pacing and lack of a narrative depth, prevents it from reaching its full potential. I give this movie is 5, the animation is visually pretty to look at with its unique artstyle and the top notch voice acting does help bring the characters to live. A silent voice also flawed, was way better than this movie.

For me, I'll go with Kuroko's Basketball because it's entertaining, engaging, and exciting seeing Serin take on and beat the GoM's. Because of Kuroko, I got back into playing basketball again. I honestly don't care if this series is unrealistic because 1 we watch anime to be entertained. Anine tends to take something grounded in reality and pushes it to the extreme, and when done well, people will love it. 2, if you really care about realism in anime, you might as well watch an nba game because you can't get realer than that. That being said, Slamdunk is a great show and personally, I like its music better than Kuroko's.

AnJ is a great sports anime is because it isn't mainly about sports. It's about Joe and his life. It's about the personal drama he has with his opponents and the people closest to him. The fights in the Joe are fights that have a ton of context and backstory behind them. They're the culmination of the personal connections he's built with however he's about to fight. The only other media which I can make a 100% comparison to AnJ are the Rocky movies and Raging Bull

It’s really hard for me to get past a few chapters of kuroko. The basketball moves don’t make any sense and I can hardly laugh at anything. Maybe I am just too old for it. Slam dunk on the other hand is way more realistic and I still love it after rereading it several times as an adult.

Bball in Philippines made me quit the sport. Settling in US and 90's NBA made me picked up the ball. SD made me appreciate the sport. Today's NBA sucks. But KnB made me realize why i do not want to let go of my passion for sport. When my Dad passed away and didn't have final words with him, i realized basketball was one of the few things we really bonded. So i play it as many times as i can like no tomorrow.

Ashita no Joe was not a "fighting" manga with mindless serial publication in mind. It was explicitly published as an outlet against the pressure of the old generation upon the new, who were essentially treating them like monoliths and second class citizens on the basis of age and experience. The early chapters of Ashita no Joe became a sobering grounding point for many of the Japanese youth showing how dehumanized and boxed-in they were, and how conformity by force affected their mentality going forward. The manga was the politest "fuck you" to the parents and grandparents of 50s and 60s Japanese babies and the Japanese working class, who basically used the manga to declare that their future was their own and not of the previous generation's. Irony of ironies that that generation has forgotten what Joe taught them all those years ago in the present day.

Tried watching Kuroko but I just can't get around the absurdity of their powers. They all seem alien and using it to play sports just seems cheating really. As a basketball player and fan, the journey is far more important than the outcome. You see NBA teams win championship, but the process to get there is what really inspires. Slam Dunk is all that. They are not a powerhouse team, Sakuragi doesn't even know how to play, but the journey they took as a team is what separates them from others. And as a viewer, you see their growth and really a part of it. Slam Dunk literally made popular the sports anime genre all around the world. Until now, even with a short run as an anime. Slam Dunk still remembered and celebrated.

I can't watch Kuroko No Basket. I tried on 3 seperate occasions cause of suggestions. Each time, I couldn't go through the first 3 episodes without getting mad about the special powers. I figured it out: Kuroko NB is an anime about basketball, and follows all the conventions found in anime. Slam Dunk is a love letter to basketball choosing anime/manga as its medium. I am a basketball fan before I am an anime fan. If you've watched every anime and are interested in basketball enough to catch the NBA Finals every year, Kuroko NB is for you. If you're an anime fan but follow up-and-coming highschool basketball phenoms, regularly watch vintage games/read up on vintage basketball storylines, or spent time in a highschool team yourself - Slam Dunk is for you. It's for me for all those reasons.
