“Nederland will build another bridge that extends Snyder Street south and connects Conger.” What goal does this satisfy? What community vision includes more roads across our riparian corridor and through our parks? How is this type of development defended and how did it become so certain? Kind of a mess, no? Many of the items listed under Economic Development are at odds with our community’s vision of preserving, protecting and restoring our environment. The understanding of the nested model of sustainability that properly recognizes the Environment as the most essential aspect of our lives appears to have been lost. The goals and objectives I see listed in this 2030 document lead us away from the goals and objectives we established in the 2020 Vison Statements and in our award-winning 2013 Comprehensive Plan, a plan that places the Environment at the center of our focus. What are the reasons for straying away from that?
