How to use Park Assist to hands-free PARALLEL PARK your @volkswagen_usa ID.4 EV
Want to hands-free PARELLEL PARK your VW ID.4 EV using Park Assist? In a past ID.4 EV video, I showed how to use the ID.4 Park Assist to auto park your EV in a parking lot to pull in forward or backing into a parking spot, and I received many requests to show how to parallel park also. In this video, I show you the steps to use the Park Assist on your @volkswagen_usa @volkswagen ID.4 EV to parallel park on a street. I use this option every time I have to parallel park my ID.4, since it does it better than I can. Be safe and I hope you enjoy your ID.4 or EV as much as I do.

My Thought Process When I Purchased My First Electric Vehicle This Week

With so many EV choices, as an @EVBeginner, I was a little overwhelmed in the decision process as I tried to choose an EV for me. Eventually, I narrowed my EV options down to 2 EV's. I purchased my first EV on November 3, 2023. This short video will explain what information led me to this decision. By the way, I love driving my new EV.

I am sitting in as many electric vehicles to see if a tall person can comfortably drive them and sit in the back seat. Today, I tried the new 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 EV. I previously test drove an ID.4 and liked that model, but this one was an improvement on how it fit my long body in the driver's seat. Hope you enjoy.

Find out if my long body fits into this 2023 Kia EV6 electric vehicle. I plan on purchasing an EV and want to know which ones are comfortable enough for me to drive. Not sure about the EV6 since the vehicle does not appear to be tall and the roof slopes down in the back like a number of EV's.

Will a 6’8” tall man fit in a new 2023 Subaru Solterra electric vehicle?

Tall people can’t fit in a lot of cars, so I am going to see if my 6’8” body will fit in this 2023 Subaru Solterra electric vehicle (EV). Note: this EV did state it was a "prototype", so it's possible that the final production version sizing is different, but my knees could not fit between the steering wheel and console, which made it undriveable for me.

Three Things you need to know to Drive a 2022 Tesla Model Y for Electric Vehicle (EV) Beginners
Basically its so stupid from VW to make it a handle, make it a button so no one break it
A option for carhwash mode would be nice that way it turns features on or off.
💯 agree. That would be the best solution!
The charging cable is actually a factory option. My '23 came with one, and the item was listed as costing $350 on the window sticker. Agree, though - that's pretty stiff. You can buy cheaper ones but to be frank, what if some cheap one glitches and fries out your car? I'd rather overpay for the factory one.
Thanks for sharing! Just seems like all EV’s should come with a charging cable if they want more adoption. I agree about not buying cheap cables. There are quality brands. I bought my cable from Lectron which is a solid company. Enjoy 😊!
Yes, the inside handle is electric, but it is also mechanical. If the electric fails, you pull it out gently all the way and it will open mechanically. Also, not only do you lightly pull the handle out a little, you need to push the door hard to open it. Some doors fit more tight than others and need that push. Push with your shoulder.
Great advice @lautenwerck and absolutely correct. Pushing the door out as you slightly pull the inside handle is key. Thanks for sharing.
I took mines off, its annoying
Thanks Papa this video great information for me!
Is that on all models?
Park Assist is on model years 2023 and earlier. Model year 2024 has Park Assist Plus according to the VW website. My ID.4 in the video is a 2023.
You don’t need to 1 pedal drive to recover energy. The brake pedal also uses regen braking but if you press harder, then it transitions to friction. It’s called blended brakes.
@@tonymcflattie2450 you are correct you get energy recuperation without 1-pedal driving, but the ID.4 manual states there is more energy recuperation in B mode (1-pedal) than in D mode and the brake pads will wear down faster in D mode.
It is not natural to only pull it slightly. It's not natural for anyone to think to only pull it slightly. I don't want to have to give everyone a tutorial on how to get out of my freaking car! And then to have to remind people as well. I'm all for EV but some of these idiosyncracies are driving me batty. It's just NOT natural.
@@MariaAbrams-i9x I agree it’s not natural, but it is the way the ID.4 handle works. I don’t have to think about it anymore, I just do it that way and the door opens.
Nice to know that Tesla isn’t the only ones with the stupid doorhandle design. You’re supposed to open the Tesla door by pressing a button, but there is also a mechanical release in case you lose power. But if you use the mechanical release unnecessarily, it’s possible to damage the window seal. Crazy designers.
@@garyfritz4709100% agree. The OEM’s just need to keep it simple.
My first day I intuitively yanked the exterior handle up and the handle popped up mechanically without opening the door cause it was still locked. No damage, since then I've had impatient riders do the same thing. All these errors went away when I programmed it to unlock all doors at once which is how I live with all my cars. I use situational awareness and just don't worry about it.
Nice! Good solution to that door handle issue. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your videos! Are you in the Columbus area?
Yes I am!
@@EVbeginnerthat’s great to see another Columbusite that has an ID.4.
@@rooflinestudios224 what color is your ID.4? Mine is white.
@@EVbeginner I like the white a lot! Mine is grey. I’ve only had it for a week. I picked it up last week at MAG VW.
As someone 6*7 you have no clue how oddly specific this channel fits my needs
Only us EXTRA Tall humans can understand!
This is incorrect. The door handle will not break if you pull it too hard. In the event of a dead battery, total loss of power, etc. you must pull the door handle past the point of resistance to open the door as you would a regular door handle. The same for the outside. While it is a fixed door handle, if you pull past the point of resistance, it will lift to manually operate the mechanism to open the door if the electronic release fails.
I got this model . I am more interested in how i can get out , if ever the batteries fail .
@@Ahoooooooo according to some ID.4 owners, if the battery is dead, you can pull the door handle all the way up and it will mechanically open the door so we all should be fine. Good question!
@@EVbeginner Thank you very much for the information . I will have to rely on i never need to find out . 😊
Hmm, I'm 6'2 (190cm) and while I fit comfortably in the seat I don't see that much because the ceiling basically cuts off a third of my field of view? Sat in it today and I have a test drive planned for next week.
Did you have the seat as low to the floor as possible? Good luck with that test drive!
I still have to pull it twice.
Only thing I can think of is you still may be pulling the handle too far. Try pulling very, very slowly until you hear the door mechanism open then push the door open. Good luck!
@@EVbeginner I'm doing precisely that. Very gently, not all the way out. It still requires two attempts. Does it matter that the doors are locked or something? I see no setting that controls this.
@@tomdiliberto4225I know that is frustrating. Does not matter if door is locked or not. Mine is always locked when I open it. My last idea is I push the door out with my left hand as I slightly pull the door handle with my right hand. Good luck! 🍀
I have travel assist but I don't see this option in my ID4. Gtx 2021. Any ideas?
You should have Lane Change on your 2021 GTX. Make sure you have Travel Assist on and not just Cruise Control. Also, only highways that are in the ID.4 software will have the lane assist available. Cool car and good luck.
Bro can you show me how to use park assist, my car keeps looking for a spot but never finds when even through an empty and newly painted parking lot
Does the 2022 have park assist
No. It is my understanding that the 2022 ID.4’s do not have all the sensors needed for Park Assist.
This is my question as well. I have 2022 model and the park assist popped up on my p-menu once, but I didn’t use it. After that, never showed up. I don’t know if it was only a glitch in the software or just me not knowing how to use the park assist.
I thought texting while driving was dangerous but this is a whole new level! This is exactly what you hope no one is doing when traveling on a highway with your family!
Thanks mate I’m only 6’6” and I was wondering
Wish you did a demonstration of how self parking performs when parallel parking??? cause I wouldn’t imagine it parking too close to another vehicle would be an issue when parallel parking cause you won’t have a car on either side when parallel parking vs standard parking space in lot. Hope this makes sense & would love to see a demonstration of this in a future video; hopefully if id4 doesn’t park too close to curb when parallel parking that would be a more appropriate scenario to use the feature. If making a part 2 self park video but for parallel parking would be helpful to demonstrate the feature’s performance/distance from curb & other parked cars (front & back) is consistent regardless of which side street you’re parked on. Hope that makes sense! Thanks for your time & consideration.
Thanks for liking my comment so others see it! I hope you can also make a step by step video on how to control windows with key fob to roll up & down when outside the car. I can only roll down when holding unlock button. If you have any info on this would be very much appreciated. I have a 2021 vw id4 pro s in the most current up to date software
Hey @meedy92, I added a video on TH-cam this week on using the ID.4 Park Assist to Parallel Park the EV.
I drive my ID through the washing lane, only wipers out , mirrors normal no extra work.
Oh gosh, so many things?!?! I drive an Ioniq 6 AWD and the process is exactly the same as with an ICE, put the car in Neutral, fold in the mirrors ... done. If autohold is activated, you should of course deactivate it. Good thing is, you can leave the car on and enjoy AC and music while in the washing lane.
Yes! Hope you are enjoying that Ioniq 6! I love the range of it.
@@EVbeginner Yeah, well. Actually I do not really need it, but the power economy of the car is incredible.
You don't HAVE to to do all that. One system that is recommended to be disabled is emergency braking as it can be oversensitive on some cars regardless of them be ICEVs or EVs.
@@Keestral And emergency breaking is no issue with my car, since the transport system in the car wash keeps your car at the same distance to the car in front, so I just put it in neutral and fold in the mirror, because it says so at the car wash.
Cool story
Thanks.
Does yours have the kick to open the back feature? I heard some disable that as well but seems like no issues for you?
My ID.4 Pro AWD does not have the kick to open so I don’t have to worry about that. The manual did not mention it, but probably a good idea to disable so it doesn’t open in the car wash.
Great explanation. How can I display the trip data on my ID 4 instrument cluster?
On the main menu center screen, click on Vehicle. Then on the left click on Data. You then can see the trip data Since Start (for that specific trip), Long-Term (since the beginning of the ID.4) and Since Last Charge. Hope this helps. Enjoy.
Bu arada gayet faydalı bir anlatım olmuş teşekkürler arkadaşım 👍

Merhaba benim ı6 travel assist acc ışığı arıza verdi bir öneriniz varmı arkadaşım
Hello. I think a faulty adaptive cruise control (ACC) light will have to be fixed by a VW dealer. Good luck.
Araç grey market bayi çıkışlı değil ayrıca turkiyede olmayan bir araba greymarket tövbeler olsun .
Wow. We have gotten too lazy to change lanes while driving... And there is a message on the screen for you to read while you are changing lanes that says make sure your surroundings are clear (that you read WHILST YOU ARE CHANGING LANES)!! Yup. We are doomed.
Um, no one has issue with people like this shooting video content while driving down the highway? Wow. We are surely doomed as an "intelligent society"....
New to all this EV stuff in this scenario do i need to keep my foot on the accelerator ?
Hello. We are all learning! In travel assist your vehicle will be on cruise control traveling at the speed you have set it for. So when you use the lane change assist, no need to put your foot on the accelerator.
Thanks I have an ID4 GTX I am struggling with this, two quick questions does the steering wheel move in your hand physically and I think I saw but just to confirm does the indicator switch itself off. Thanks
Hello. I struggled initially also. 1. Yes, the steering wheel will turn itself in your hands when it is changing lanes during the lane assist. Your hands are on the wheel, but you let it move itself. 2. When you want to use the lane change assist, and travel assist is on and the white arrows are displayed, you move the turn signal lever slightly down for left or up for right (do not push it up or down all the way) and the car will display the turn signal for others to see and then will turn the turn signal off. Good luck and enjoy that GTX!
Regardless of how ridiculous an electric door handle is or not, I’m absolutely LOVING the soft hint of condescension LMAO!!! 😆 It just blows my mind that some people need to be taught how to open something as simple as a door handle. Yes, I know there’s a different way of operating this one…. but, you’d think people would have just enough brain cells working to figure this out after a couple times. SMH 🤦♂️
You and me both. Must be a cave man issue. I drove an id.4 for two months and this wasn't even remotely on my list of shit to dislike about the car. What a time to be alive. Teaching people how to use a door handle.
I haven't tried the prk asit but plan to. My question is does the park assist work when parallel park?
Yes. Park Assist will work when parallel parking.
Which software is this? I'm taking mine in for the update to 3.2.12 soon
This is the 3.5 version software. It was loaded on my ID.4 when I bought it on 2023. Good luck!

I've just bought a top-trim Subaru ICE, which I love, but man this feels like the future. I can't wait to upgrade in a few years.
EV’s are fun to drive. I love my ICE cars too! Enjoy that Subaru. When you are ready to change vehicles, you will have lots of cool choices.
What trim is your ID.4 and what is the software?
2023 ID.4 Pro AWD, 3.5 version software.
Just got the 2023 ID4 the dealership asked me if i wanted a professional to teach me about the features i didnt as im pretty tech savy but i know soo many people who dont know this video to those is very helpful keep making more videos as most people dont know how to use the park assist features
Thanks for the comment! My ID.4 salesman did not show me how to use any of these functions either. We all learn by sharing what we know.
Thanks for the information. Makes me nervous that you are filming during the rain. Btw your speed limit is 70 mph.
Hope you found it useful Alexandra! That highway is straight for many miles so I was careful in the rain. Good job catching the 70 mph speed limit on the screen. I don’t drive on that road often and assumed it was 65 when recording, but did not realize until later. Thanks for commenting and have a great day.
Great explanation! I have an ID.3 and couldn't figure out exactly why it was sometimes available, and when not. Information perhaps on these complex systems I'd expect the dealership to give me upon delivery but didn't do. Once getting used to the travel assist and all its features, it makes driving so much more relaxed.
@tomclaessens I agree would have been nice to know immediately! It does make driving more enjoyable and relaxed knowing how to use these assist options. Cheers.
Very good explanation nice job!

Not getting a charging cable with your ID.4 is a dealership thing not VW thing. My 2023 ID.4 S RWD came with a VW L1/L2 charging cable. From what I'm seeing on Reddit and Facebook ID.4 forums, some VW dealerships are providing the charging cables with the vehicles while other dealerships aren't. I don't know why, but it definitely is something an EV owner wants and needs. Kia stopped giving charging cables with any of their EVs in 2023 in the U.S. I don't know if it's that way in other countries or just in the U.S.
I agree it is a dealership thing, but a solution is for VW to just include at least an L1 charging cable (ideally an L1/L2) with all ID.4’s then you don’t leave it up to the dealers. Good comment!
The VW cable is actually an option that shows on the window sticker. Some cars had it included, others didn't. Either way, it's the same price from the factory as it is from the dealer ($350).
Good luck! I like the style of the Ariya.
There is no moonroof (panoramicroof). In that case I had problems. But thanks, now I know that I might try version without panoramicroof.
