So, there was a guy that was trying to monetize postgREST before the Supabase people figured it out. I can't remember what it was called though. I wonder if they kept up with it or not. I just assumed Supabase came from that project, but it doesn't sound like it.
39:21 - RE: AI. This is very insightful. So often I find myself trying to use AI for coding and realizing it still needs loads of supervisory support, guidance, molding and etc. Architectural decisions are still very much in the human domain (for now). Even when coding, if you hit an edge case that it hasn’t been trained on, you may find yourself duped into a hallucination rabbit hole that just wastes your time and saps your energy.
I thought myself how to take it apart and build it and monitor how it communicates and how to influence that…. I do not have any clue what that code I’m typing means. So I had to go online and learn from others what the codes mean. that’s what self taught programming looks like. You learn to a point until someone explains how it works. The same way I learned guitar, I just started trying things until it did something I liked. Although if you ask me what mode, key or progression signature I’m playing I will stare at you like a deer in headlights
That explains you are not a programmer
Unfortunately Kelsey is incorrect about the papers, the google "Large-scale cluster management at Google with Borg" paper was published 2015-04-23. The paper Mesos was based on was a paper from Berkley called "Mesos: A Platform for Fine-Grained Resource Sharing in the Data Center" and released in 2011.
And the paper: Omega: flexible, scalable schedulers for large compute clusters was released in 2013. These papers are all great reads for anyone in this field.
I would hate to have a dialogue with that woman. I thought people stopped this behavior in middle school.
This is what coding does to your brain. Wanna be logical but autistic way of looking at life. In this logic nothing is ever self taught. 😅
..but according to this logic, it's safe to say nobody is really self-taught in anything. Everyone is just....walking a self-directed path or so we all think. This reminds me of the philosophical question on what is and isn't subjective. What is and isn't objective.

Absolutely love this as someone who lives in the middle of nowhere, bootstrapping products by myself.
Clicked thinking this was some sort of meme app, but stayed for the usefulness. That’s a neat utility!

One reason why I moved away from Vercel is I needed to download or access files in NextJS, but with S3 I didn't like to walk that extra mile.
Banger video, but I'm biased. Great stuff John!
Oh wow, what a great (talk) break down of all of the stuff going on under the hood. Hats off Jonh and the rest of the team. Anywhere I can find bdougie's talk?

Thanks a lot for having me on again - it was a blast!
This interview has everything, thank you both! I love how combine so many parts of Steven's story - the learning process, the value of collaborating and communicating, the emotional side of staying motivated and sane as he jumps into being an entrepreneur, and a few of his hurdles. Relatable and inspiring.
🙏🖤
Truly an inspirational journey that we are happy we had the opportunity to share.
Chat gpt taught 😂
I've never considered asking "why is Vite everywhere?" the answer seems so simple and obvious... 'cus it's waaaaaaay better than WebPack! ;)
Sometime around 13:00 ish, Ajana's talking about The Recurse Centre and she just drops in "he wrote Eloquent JavaScript"... Those 2 words took me down a wonderful little rabbit hole. First of all, I think I'm a bit late for Eloquent JavaScript, I'll still give it a read but it looks like it might be the sort of book I needed to read about 10-20 years ago... But, if you're in that place now, it looks like a fabulous book! But then... Eloquent JavaScript took me off to "Write code that is easy to delete, not easy to extend" on "Programming is Terrible"... and this is wonderful too - it takes one of my favourite rants and expresses it far more eloquently that I could ever manage. More gold-dust! ... Anyway... let's get back to Anjana!
That is awesome
great
Cassidy has a great balance of seriousness and joke/memes
Just tearing up hearing Leons long term plan. I love this guy and the community!
This was so good, ty for putting this together
Thanks friend
This man is a genius

Absolutely so true, I guess for most of us the best PR is the most similar to the PR we would be submitting if we were tackling the issue ourselves. This how we subconsciously determine whether our code is in good hands 😅 I just love seeing a PR that is even better than what I would do for my own open source projects, it doesn't happen too frequently but when it does it's like magic 💫
Such a high quality channel, hope it blows up, love from India
