Your welcome, Thanks for your personal review which matches my finding. Some of my viewers are under the impression that my poor experience is caused by something I am doing with this unit. I am looking for a good shortwave kit that I could build to put side by side with the R10 and show the difference. Haven’t found a good shortwave receiver kit. A number of am/fm units. Might build my own just to prove the point of how bad the R10 is as a receiver. I wonder if anyone else would like a good kit for this? RJ

Hey, Thanks so much for letting me know! I just changed my editing software and I must have a setting incorrect. I will look into it and get it resolved. I have a few videos already up so they may be the same. But I will get it resolved on any new videos. RJ

@@joatmonuk Just a note, turns out my new editing software generates mono audio tracks unless you tell it to make them stereo. I am having to learn this new much more professional software. My monitor sound bar did not have enough seperation for me to notice it was only single track audio. Thanks for the heads up again. At first read I though you were talking about the receiver that just by chance is designed to only output left channel audio. RJ

Thanks, It’s actually very insensitive. Just a cheap throwaway kit. No stations received were distant stations but only local strong stations. I have owned many receivers over the years. This isn’t the one to have by a thousand miles. RJ

Thank You for your nice words. The Yaesu FT-710AESS is a ham radio transceiver produced by the Yaesu company. It is not a kit. If you search for “Yaesu FT-710AESS” You should easily find it. hopefully this helps. RJ

@@LynxElectronicsLab Wow, thats over a $1000 and it is already built. I am not a ham ; yet!, perhaps when I get to college. I have built crystal sets, TA7642 radios, regens - all good but just looking for my next build on my journey. Any recommendations? thanks GF

Thanks for the comment, Even if it would suddenly be a great sw receiver by taking it outside which it will not (I already had it connect to an outside antenna in the previous video). Sitting outside in 95f temp 95% humidity be eaten by mosquitoes so my sw receiver can receive anything would not count as practical or good in my mind. No matter how bad you guys want to make this a good sw receiver it isn’t and an old used cheap sw receiver off eBay in the same setup would make this thing look silly. It so bad! RJ

Hey Uni, It didn’t matter. It’s rubbish! On a good antenna it’s overloaded and blends everything together. On a poor antenna it only rx a few powerful local stations and does so poorly even then. RJ

I tried WWV on 5,10,15 and could not hear them. Only a few very strong local stations and they were not that great. RJ

Maybe? Check the latest video I just dropped where I test that. RJ

Longer antenna doesn't create overload, the gain of a longer wire isn't significant enough to overload these receivers.

Not sure what you mean. The station I showed was radio Cuba which is maybe 180 miles away from me in Florida. This is just a poor receiver. Others who have built them found the same. RJ

Thanks, yes this is correct but when tuning direct to the correct frequency of the station you did not get the best reception on this piece of junk. RJ

Thanks for the suggestion, while in the video you only see a few minutes of me playing around with it. As is normal the video gets cut down to keep from them being 3 hours long and boring the viewer to death. In real time I spent about 3 hours over two evenings playing with it and showed my viewers a kind of best I could get from it. No matter how you do it you only hear extreme strong signals. When you do it always has other signals mixed in. The circuit is just an awful receiver design. In my video named “can we mcgyver a receiver on the bench” That receiver thrown together with a hodgepodge of random parts performed far better. And it was just a tool to show how mixing allows you to guide the frequency you want through a IF filter to get what you want. RJ

Yes, it appears I have something set wrong in the new editing software. So maybe the tv only has one channel and it’s the one the last few videos are missing? RJ

Totally agree! I'm blown away by mine and have owned many transceivers through the decades. It even surpassed my beloved FTDX-3000- that's amazing to me.

BTW Lynx, where did you get the kit from?

FT-710 is a great value for a sub $1000 transceiver with the external speaker thrown in when it is on sale. SDR is really progressing.

Thanks for the input, I was never a shortwave listener but a ham most of my life. I’m sure you’re correct but I do hear some neat foreign broadcast stations sometimes just outside the ham bands. I really enjoy talking with hams all over the world getting different takes on everything and learning about real life in their countries. RJ

I’m stating the obvious, but SWL is also much more difficult with the rise of digital noise pollution. It also makes ham radio more difficult than it should be. The FCC did not enforce their emissions interference policy as they should have.

Hello, I have not had any issues with usb connectivity with it. If you check out my videos on my test cell I built and use to log test on inductors and capacitors you can see I wrote my own logging software which communicates to a number of my bench equipment including this meter. It cannot switch from the ma range to amps by software as this requires physically moving the probe to a different input. But I have not had any auto-range issues with it between ma and ua in my use. It is no Keithley or Agilent but for cheap it is pretty good. Hope this helps. RJ

Thanks RJ , for confirmation have you used this for more than 15 hours i have one requirement where i need to log current for more than 12 hours

I do not know I have run it logging that long, I have for sure done over 6 hours. Most of my temp cycles are about 1-2 hours. Now to make sure I am being clear, my logging is the computer getting the readings from the meter and storing it. I am not standalone logging with the meter. RJ

Funny, I guess I was not the only one that has been down that road. So sad that electronics have been almost completely relegated to China. I fear the day will come that this will bite us and we will really feel the pain from it. RJ

@@LynxElectronicsLab The interesting thing is, the US exports more than twice the ICs to China than China imports to the US. So the US is very much still in the electronics game, but it has relegated itself to the manufacture of components for export and has mostly given up on the manufacture of consumer electrons.

Your on the money! Bet you don’t kill parts or have bad solder joints either. Many newer players get lulled into too cold temps and fight with issues. I really like your new little toy. It does keep better in a fridge but it will still go bad. The use by date is normally at 70f. It can go longer if in a fridge but do not put it in a food refrigerator. RJ

Yeah, might replace the other one as I really do like it. No problem doubt it helps you as your channel is much larger and likely all my viewers are already your viewers. RJ
