Barba Roja 73052 - 2022 Stingray Pt Reggata / FBYC
Sailing team Barba Roja 73052 makes the trip to Deltaville VA for the Stingray point regatta held by Fishing Bay Yatch Club. we took 3rd in the distance race and had an awesome time the whole weekend! FBYC members and racers were top notch people. This was 2 highlights together from the 3 days of racing. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did participating in it! FBYC 2022.

Barba Roja Sailing down the Chesapeake... in a Gale Warning!

The crew of the Barba Roja sails 32nm down the Chesapeake Bay during a Gale warning and small craft advisory. We had steady winds at or about 22kts and gusts to 30. Broad reaching, we were able to reach an avg speed of 7.55kts over a 2 hour period and hit 12.3 once with the sea pushing us along! The Pearson 31-2 Barba Roja, beats into 25-30kts of headwind in the SMSA Spring Invitational race in Solomons MD. With a reef in the main and 30% less headsail the boat powered up plenty quickly accelerating to 6-7kts. My crew did a good job considering the tough conditions on them! From the dock... to putting in 2 reefs mid race! This was our 4th Frostbites race in 2022. The start had 90deg wind shifts 60ft apart from us and other boats... then quickly built to a steady 20kts with gusts to 28kts! we put a reef in the main while beating upwind, and then pinched just long enough to roll in the 155% Genoa to reduce the headsail area and keep my Pearson 31-2wk on her feet. ca...

Highlights from the first two legs of the SMSA Frostbites series Race#2 in Solomons MD. Winds were out of the NW st 18-25kts for the 9.5nm race. We were in FULL SEND mode... which is code for we were over powered...lol. Enjoy.

The cree of the Barba Roja on a test run and practice with a new to us spinnaker. You'll see me moving all around the boat, taking pictures and looking at the sails shape... This was the first time we had this kite up. Crew did an awesome job!

I owned and sailed 1988 HID #154 on the Chesapeake for 15 years. A fantastic boat that got us through many storms and wonderful times.
We sail a 1988 31-2 out of the Sassafras. Would love to talk about how you rigged for a spinnaker. Looking great!
I have similar Pearson 31-2. Trying to understand your main sheet set up. It go thru organizer and to winch or do u take it at the block in the traveler?
It goes from the clutch pack thru the deck organizers, to a block at the foot of the mast. From there it goes up to the boom, and down to a fiddle block a few times befor it exits the fiddle block cam cleat. Where we trim from. It's an end for end sheeting system. I can trim the main from the fiddle block on the main car, or from the clutch.

A reef in the main probably was warranted. It looks like it was a blast and if well maintained that boat can certainly handle it. Two weeks out, and will be joining you. Late start this year.
I thought about a reef, however since we were sailing with the wind on a broad reach for almost the whole trip, there was no need. If we had to head up wind at any point, I'd agree. Also having the #3 on the headstay reduces sail area. Glad you stopped by to watch my video! Thanks!
