    Not much of a use case. You can pick up a hot plate for $15. If you wanna spend more for extra efficiency, get an induction cooktop.

    For any air conditioner to work best in a van- step 1: the windows need to covered with an outward reflective INSULATED window cover. Step 2 park in the shade……… Those two steps are necessary to give any air conditioner a chance to cool instead of just battling the heat. ** Otherwise run a more powerful air conditioner off of a gas generator for anything over 90 or 100 degrees

    Its too bad they don't make these units so you can mount it outside of the vehicle and let you run it on 12v like the Autoclima UGO AC.

    LET me solve your problem: 200-400Ah battery power, 400-600W solar. A DC-DC 50Ah charger. Then a 1500W mobile induction cooktop for summer use, 5kg/10kg lpg gas bottle for winter use, connected to a hose, where you have a Primus Gravity single hob on an click-on adapter. Then you have full flexibility all year round, all conditions, whatever you have for resources in your van. Then as a backup, you run a jetboil to boil water or heat up stuff. Just as a backup or when that is actually a whole lot easier. Because sometimes it is. That is what I run with, and I am out all year. if you don't live in texas, and you don't have a gazillion budget, this will take you through all year. When you don't have a lot of electricity, you just switch to lpg. and you only have to have a frying pan and a kettle specifically for the induction top. everything else can be used on the lpg powered gravity from primus. It's so cost effective it's bonkers.

    It's great to see SOMETHING from Jetboil that is not proprietary. I've been running with their boiler from 2010. Still going, I have a 2L casserole and a 1L in addition to the standard kit. Also a frying pan adapter. Never ever used anyting but the default kit and the adapter. the stuff is just collecting dust. Proprietary stuff are bound to be downgraded to storage. But this clamshell coocktop is SO DANG COOL! since I found colemans, I absolutely want one, if I ever going to go caravaning or to a cabin.

  • @krimke881
    @krimke881 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Dude, your "cons" are way weird. it's like you had to look for them to have something at all. That thing is just a water boiler bottom with a pan on top. it's great as long as you can adjust the heat. It's perfect, but I really don't understand what it does in the category of vanlife and overlanding. It belongs more in caravaning and if you overnight in a cabin. maybe an upgrade for your old cabin. It lacks a carrying case though. it doesn't look well thought through. I'm positive to this product compared to most other actually. it's just simple and doesn't try to be something.

    One advantage for the ecoflow is you can use the battery with a Delta 2 for example. So when adding a Delta 2 additional 1kWh of battery cost more than the 1.1kWh battery of the Wave 2, and you can use the Delta 2 to charge AND power the Wave2, it all come out to be a great combo... (I think anyway), but they are still really expensive for much low power units.

    Not a big fan of electric cooking. The one exception is the cook top my sister has (Kitchenaid) where the elements are below an 1/8" of Pyrex glass, which moderates the temperature swings and is very close to gas. Of course it isn't made anymore:( The Jet Boil is really hard to beat. If i had to use electric in a camper, i would just go with the $13 models from the river company and use your own pots. Good and honest review though of an Apple approach to cooking! It will interesting to see your solution for AC in the desert. Here is the southeast, where it can be 100 F with 100% relative humidity, it just takes brute force to cool anything at all.

      I'm not a big fan of electric either, but was surprised with how this performed! I had an induction cooktop in the van originally, but am so happy I switched to a propane system. I will have information on the AC unit coming out next week sometime! Things are scheduled to show up starting Wednesday so I'll be getting to work on the install as soon as I can. Planning to release a video before talking about my choice and everything going into keeping the van cool-ish this summer

    My Promaster is white and insulated. I bought the Ecoflow wave 2 last year as a fail safe for a trip to Texas and for those times when maybe I need to sleep with the van closed and locked at night. I would NEVER trust it to cool my dog if I’m away. I have experimented with various setups and concur that the wave 2 is only capable of about a 10 degree cooling. However with that said, my results absolutely contradict the idea of “recirculating” the intake air. I set mine up in the swiveled driver seat (yes that prevents an emergency getaway), with both hoses connected to the Etsy window insert. The exhaust hose is short and insulated separately. All windows are covered with van essentials magnetic covers and when I go to bed, I curtain off the cab and use that extra long hose to duct the cold air to the back of the van. If temps are 80-90 at night, this system will allow me to sleep comfortably. The battery is likely not worth it, but again I wanted this setup for those times when maybe I don’t feel safe with my doors open. I hate the storage space and setup time, but didn’t have an appetite for upgrading my batteries, solar, and drilling holes. Would I buy it again…most likely.

    Very nice review and presentation. I need to work out of a van in summer, often 115 F and in winter often -25 F. The Wave 2 looks like it does the best of what I need for both. 60 AMPS to charge it concerns me. I have only 15 AMP and 20 AMP breakers at home and 30 AMP shore power hook up so charging may not work for me.

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm not going to try and sound like am electrician, but this was 60amps from my 12v dc battery bank. The 120 ac current would be different but my system isn't measuring that. I only have 20 amp breakers on my ac panel and no issues charging.

    I think really the misconception of this AC unit is people think it’s going to replace a larger system like a home AC or a vehicle AC. Our home AC is too small for our house with this Texas heat. Something that I fought with the builder and they insisted 3 tons was enough (but that’s a whole Nother story).I put this in my son’s room and It was able to bring his room down to a set temperature of 70° without any issue. Here in Texas this summer is already starting to get going and his room is generally the hottest room during the summer time. I’m pretty happy with this unit. It’s doing exactly what I wanted. After catching Covid 2 yrs ago I now struggle when it gets really hot especially doing outdoor projects or just being out in the heat with direct sun beating down for long periods of time. So now we just take this with us. With the battery it’s pretty easy to turn on and literally point the air right at me and I stay nice and cool. This is exactly what I was hoping for and it totally works for me. I think it’s gonna be a use by use cases. Looking at your situation being in Vegas. I would not expect this thing to be able to keep up with that type of heat, maybe two of them, but this alone comparing to a vehicle’s a/c which most are 20-30k+ btu, I think it’s a bit of skewed comparison, especially for that type of heat. Another thing like you mentioned, the exhaust hose emits a good amount of heat. Amazon has insulation kits ($25) for these hoses and I would highly recommend that. They do help out quite a bit and cuts down on the heat emitted from the exhaust hose.

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      100% it has its use cases. I could even see it being a great option in the van along side a more powerful 12v or 24 unit. I also have used it in hot rooms in my house and it works great! I did use a similar insulation system as well.

  • @johntate5284

    Interesting. I have used these types of boosters before and never got any useful increase in signal (of course they were the cheapest ones from the river company, so what was i expecting!). I also found out some interesting things about my cell phone provider about their ability to "favor" business over personal in certain areas with low tower coverage, so my faith in cell phones is not very high, but what can you do. Since i am in one of those areas and the population has dramatically increased with no new towers, my signal has gone from 4 bars to one or none, so this probably won't help. But a nice review that can help others. Looking forward to an update on keeping your Sprinter van cool:)

I should have went with a mini split! My sleeper bunk is only 8x9x8. It’s better to run a mini split off of batteries powered by an inverter! A good way to carry those little green bottles is with a section of 4" PVC sewer pipe. Glue a permanent cap on one end and a "cleanup fitting" on the other. The bottles fit nicely and you can easily carry as many as you need by cutting the pipe to the correct length. What I have seen on boats is to have the CO fitting facing down when mounted to your rig so the bottles will slide out. Good luck!

    Tell the truth mate That the air coming out blows to the left so you have to turn the unit to the right of you van to get it to blow air down the middle of your van 🚐 Also if you turn the unit off when it’s plugged into AC it still consumes 70w electric ⚡️ Also the hot air coming out leak’s out and mixes with the cold air And makes the air outlet temperature rise up and the the unit then eats power I’m on my 3rd replacement within 3 months of owner Anyone with this unit at home should be advanced to unplug there unit before the get a very expensive bill 💸 at the end on the month If you don’t believe me try it for your self

      I'd maybe look at sectioning off the hot air somehow from the cold air. To be honest, I put it in my small 8x10 office sometimes with nothing on and just have the unit sitting aways from me so all that I feel is the cold air and it does good enough! Obviously venting the heat is the best option, but there are some work arounds you can probably find!

  • @parodoxis
    @parodoxis 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Insulating the exhaust tubing is a must, and is recommended by the manufacturer. You're spilling heat back into your van... Also, having the intake inside creates a negative pressure in the van, meaning the hot air will get sucked in from outside via... every little gap and leak. That's not better than pulling it in via a controlled intake tube from outside, keeping the outdoor air separate with a neutral pressure. All this is to say, due to the way you tested it, I'm not sure I can learn much from your conclusions. That said, if your van isn't insulated, spending the money on a professional spray foam job will completely change the outcome here, so much less waste.

      This was a sum of over a year using the product. The tests were designed to simulate scenarios I found myself in to talk about the products abilities in more detail. I did talk about insulating the tube and have done that in the past and do that anytime I'm using it. My van is very well insulated already as well. And yes, the negative pressure does happen. That's why I run it with the window vents. My video last year had tons of comments talking about having the intake inside, so that test was just to appease those questions. I do find in maximum 90 degree weather this unit does provide some comfort. This unit has its purpose and place.

    Thank you for talking about its use in small indoor spaces! I've been looking at this for a small room in my apartment because the floor space in the room is at a premium and typical portable ACs just take a lot of floor space. Most reviews focus on van use-which I get is the main intended use- and I'm sure it's a bummer that it's not so effective for that purpose but good to know that it seemed to have a better result for you in a small indoor space. Options are slim in small rooms with no ac!

      You're welcome! I'd definitely look for a way to vent the exhaust out of your room if you can. It will definitely help! The only other thing will be to make sure you keep an eye on the condensation. It tells you if and when it needs to drain so shouldn't be an issue.

      @@rileyclarkfineart thanks for the tips! The website does feature a setup without venting out which I hadn't seen before so helpful to know! fortunately my room has a little window that should work -

      Honestly, I don't always vent it when I use it in my 8x10 office. I get lazy sometimes lol but even then, as long as I don't have the hot air near me, the cold air does it's job! Still best to vent it and insulate the vent, but if you need to cool off quick and don't want the hassle, I have had success having it sit out like in the photos on the site.

    What bummed me out about this when I first saw it was that they had fittings to connect two separate hoses for ejecting waste heat when placing the unit inside the conditioned space, but not fittings for both intake and output air if placing the unit outside the conditioned space. I wanted to put it outside my yurt for noise reasons, and circulate return air directly to it.

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are ways you could work around this and build it in to circulate the air, but yes not the intended design with how the intake and exhaust are.

    Nice video. I’m doing the 48v nomadic x2 on my 144 sprinter. It’s the Tenorite gray so it gets super hot in the sun as well. Hoping if I use a cab partition it will cool the back half of the van for sleeping and occasionally getting out of the heat during the day. Did you figure out what you’re going with in the future?

      I currently have two Maxxair fans, so I have room to swap one of them out for a roof mounted system. If i go roof mounted, I will probably put it in the back over my bed. I am very interested in the S1 mini-split system nomadic has now. I like the idea of the mini-split since you can keep a portion of the equipment inside the climate controlled area so it's not working as hard to cool the area. I also like it for the fact I can keep my roof in tact with solar and my fans which honestly help quite a bit.

    I'm glad I came across this review. I own a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 170 with an 8000 BTU AC on the roof. However, the AC drains my battery quite fast. I'm considering running the AC on Eco mode and using the Eco Wave system simultaneously to aim for a temperature of 70°F inside the van when it's around 95°F outside. I recently bought the Eco Wave along with the add-on battery, so I'm optimistic that with both systems, I can maintain a temperature between 70°F. Am i reaching for the stars?

      The wave 2 will struggle with that big of a vehicle by itself. I could see it helping cool off a smaller segment or maintaining a smaller segment as long as you can section it off well. For example, your bed area. I definetly got better results in 90 degree weather, especially when you pair it with other solutions like fans, parking in shade, ect.

      Hey, thanks! Just subbed to your channel as well. Been very happy with it. I was in 15 degree weather and still had warm water the next morning. Wasn't technically hot water, but for lasting that long I was impressed with the insulation. The 12v heating element doesn't pull a lot of power either. I never use it, but nice safety blanket for those cold days when parked for a while

    You should also add how how it would get if you DIDNT have the wave 2. It would probably be around 150 degrees in the car. (117 outside, lots of non shaded glass windows and a black van). Put insulated shades in the windows and try again.

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I did have insulated window shades up. The clips showing the exhaust tubing didn't show it because I have to modify how it attaches to the window and it would have been in the way for that demonstration. The wave 2 could not cool the space faster than the space was heating up. It was making no difference at all.

    I'm just looking for a battery powered AC to take to soccer games and craft markets. I'm not looking to cool down a space, just looking for a unit to blow cold air on me when it's 100 degrees outside. I was looking at the Icy Breeze AC cooler, but I think the Zero Breeze AC unit would be more portable and efficient. What do you think? Would the Zero Breeze be a good fit for my needs? TYIA

      I havnt used icy breeze, but for the price might not be bad. Just have to buy ice. Zero breeze has a mark 3 coming out that is more powerful, so that could be something to look at. But yes, zero breeze is definitely the better bet! Especially if you can have it in some shade. It will be that much better
