How Bad is Caldwell? An Update
Not long ago I did a video checking out just how bad Caldwell is. You see the internet rumors like I do... I wanted to see things for myself. Today, I went back to Caldwell to find some more of that nastiness... no such luck.

This is great. But the current crime stats are absolute and total garbage. In 2021, Biden made crime reporting optional. As a result, roughly 40% of agencies decided not to report their crime stats. Despite this, the reported crime rate only dropped by about a percentage point. This indicates that actual crime is up nearly 40%. Until all agencies are required to report their crime rate, like it was in 2020, this list is completely and totally worthless. I do believe that we (Idaho) are very near the bottom of the list. But we need actual reporting to know for sure.
I was SO scared when you started walking around downtown unprotected and out in the open. I kept waiting any minute for someone to jump out and do something bad. Wow, scary video. Hope things improve there soon. I had to hold my hands in front of my eyes and wince through the openings between the fingers lest I be scared.
Hi! Would you be able to do a video in Meridian, Ten Miles and Cherry into Downtown? Is this a bad or poor area? I heard they are going to build a new Mall on Ten Mile near freeway? Thanks!
Absolutely! I'll be happy to! You say into downtown... is that downtown Meridian or on into downtown Boise? This is right out by where our big Treasure Valley Dave Picnic is in October... in Fuller Park. Spooler alert... it's really a great area!
@@TreasureValleyDave Yeah downtown Meridian and the Ten mile Cherry area would be awesome! Where the new Mall will be too?
That’s So cool you have an annual picnic too! Love that!!!
So are the no parking charges retroactive from my last visit ? LOL
Not retroactive... city council isn't that generous! But it's all free now (until someone at the City gets another wild idea!).
Looks ok. I'm not sure an older downtown house is for me, but we will see. I do know there is an agent from that area on You Tube that talks down the Nampa and Caldwell downtown areas; noting the high crime, gangs, and drugs.
Dang... that would really be misrepresenting these nice towns. Is there crime, gangs and drugs in Nampa and Caldwell? I'm sure. Is it on the scale of anywhere in California or Oregon? Not even close!!
Just buy a fake one, they look real.
That works for me!!
Why not to move to move to idaho. cause if you werent born here we dont like you especially if your from california!
Whats the address?
It's in south east Nampa. 3200 Karsten maps.app.goo.gl/eP2z3ELAuUhyndQP9
I love my Town. Thanks for the video i pray it stays small.
I think it will always have that small town feel 😊
Dave, an awesome video! Great insights on how the crime stats are "created" in some states. I had no idea. Thanks for shining the light on it!
Thanks, Anne!!
The FBI changed their crime reporting system in 2020, and as you say, over 15% of the US is not reporting their data. This means you can't directly compare year to year trends. Contrary to what you said, FL is in the FBI violent crime database. The problem is some big Blue cities not reporting. The two greatest correlatiosn to per capita crime are Republican v. Democrat government and demographics, particularly per capita income and race.
Pretty apparent correlation! Thanks for the info 👍
The stat I heard was 40%. But I'm pretty sure you'd have to have a lot of time and resources to know for sure. You'd have to research every single agency in the entire country. Every town, county, prison (yes, crime happens in prison) and state to see who is reporting and who isn't.
Your a good man dave, thank you, we have been talking about getting a storage in idaho and start moving stuff we dont need daily ahead of time, if i can time it around the picnic id love to be there. Sounds great, hard part will be having to return to commiefornia after..lol.. have a great day dave, and thank you again for the invite
That's soooo true, Keith!! Going back to CA is just the hardest thing to do! Not to worry... because you'll be coming back home to Idaho before ya know it!!
Errored when i tried to reply, no i never got a post card, when was it sent?, maybe still on its way, mail slow out here. Thank you though dave, your awsome brother
It's probably a little early... I put it in the dropbox Tuesday afternoon. I figure you'll get it tomorrow... Saturday at the latest. Anyway, it's your invitation to the Treasure Valley Dave Client Appreciation Picnic! I don't know if you'll be in the area or not on October 19th, but in case you are, it would be great to see you there!! There's a good amount of ex-Californians there who will give you tons of encouragement!
Hey dave, great video, loved it
Thanks, Keith!! Did you get my postcard in the mail?
Yeah, crime stats are so easily manipulated. I keep hearing how well our "leaders" in California doing, like you said LA doesn't report. Many crimes are not being charged and a lot of major crimes are being plead down. We can see what's happening, we are not blind.
Exactly!! But when there's good news (even if it's just made up), the mainstream media runs with it to promote the benefit if of the socialist/communist state. And, let's be honest, some folks take at face value what they are told by the authoritative mainstream. I guess common sense just ain't so common any more.
Unfortunately the Fed has waited too long to cut rates. We're more likely to go into a recession than some kind of boom. It's going to be a bumpy ride for real estate for a while if we see a recession. That doesn't mean that those people who're ready to buy and will get a loan won't benefit.
And don't forget inflation. If one gets a home soon and then inflation really kicks in over the next several years, one would have a home with a much greater market price while making lower payments with inflated dollars. My old house payment was a struggle at $700 but with today's inflated money, $700 looks really good 👍
@@TreasureValleyDave I see inflation as more of a long term problem. We may briefly see some deflation. It depends on what happens during the election. Regardless, inflation is coming big time. Your point is well taken, and it's wise to be prepared for either possibility. 💪👊
@@audiophileman7047 Elections matter?🤔
@@TreasureValleyDave Yes, they do. Some of the top economic and financial analysts are following the election situation very closely. So am I, because it informs investment decisions.
does the same hold true for Middleton & Caldwell too?
Hi Ned! On average, Caldwell is usually a little easier on the budget than even Nampa. Middleton... well, we'll have to shop around. It seems the word is out that Middleton is a great place to live. It's not as pricey as Star... but there are some homes in Middleton that are getting up there in price.
@@TreasureValleyDave Let me ask you this, you chose Nampa to move too, knowing what you know today where would you pick now?
@@nedsmith3659 Good morning, Ned! I would still pick Nampa. In fact, last October we moved from the first house we bought here back in 2014 (needed more room for my books). At that time, we did look at houses to the western side of the Treasure Valley... particularly the outskirts of Caldwell looking for more bang-for-the-buck. But we decided on staying in Nampa because we found a nice home that was a good value AND because we like the community. The same reasons we picked Nampa to start with are the same reasons we stayed; it's easy to get around, it's big enough to have everything we would want to have close by, it's small enough that it doesn't take a lot of time to get anywhere in particular, and it's a very well-run city. I will say, a close runner-up would be Caldwell... specifically that part of Caldwell that feels like it should be Nampa. To the west of Nampa, above Lake Lowell, it feels like it should be part of Nampa but it's technically Caldwell (anything west of Lake Ave). But after saying all that, we've helped many folks move into fantastic homes that are not in Nampa but are in great communities or even in rural areas (a couple of clients out in the country who overlook the Snake River). So it all comes down to what situation best fits your needs. Remember, taking care of 5 acres in the country is a different lifestyle than living in town.
@@TreasureValleyDave Good day to you too, thanks for all the info. You noted the Snake river, we used to live on the Sacamento River the views were amazing, Is it possible to get a house on the Snake River for around $600,000, don't need much land or a big house
@@nedsmith3659 Hey Ned! I just did a search up and down the Snake and I found these. Some are a little higher (up to $1m) but some are a lot less. Some have a better view of the Snake... some hare right on the Snake! s.paragonrels.com/goto/LQ1TuamXkiA

Wow! I just Googled that. Very interesting.
How to find job in Boise Idaho? I'm a new comer
Welcome!! Glad you're here!! We do have a very low unemployment rate... so getting a job should be pretty easy. Your first job probably won't be your "forever" job... but that's okay. I have several clients who moved here and took an okay job but, within the course of about 18 months, they left that job because they found a job that worked out so much better for them. If you've got tech skills, medical skills, construction skills, maintenance skills, retail skills... you're going to be just fine!! Go get that first job just to keep you going and keep your eye out for that perfect job. And, don't forget, enjoy your off time too!!
Wow. You guys got Foghorn Leghorn.
I remember him! "I always keep my feathers numbered... for just such an occasion."
Awesome! How close to Star!? Show us Star please!
Hi!! Star is only 6 miles to the west. Middleton is 6 miles west of Star. Makes it easy to remember. Absolutely... I'll get a Star episode in the works! Thanks for watching!
That was great, Dave! 👍👍👍 Thank you for driving and filming this route to give us an idea what a commute between Meridian and BSU would be like. It doesn't look too bad. It is certainly a lot easier than driving around the big cities in California. Your comments about winter driving were at the forefront of what we wanted to know, and you answered that too. Well done! 👍👍👍
Thanks, AM!! Glad to do it! I experimented a little more with the video format. That was fun too! Of for sure... driving around here is NOTHING like most of the cities in CA... not even close!
This is why Fruitland’s population drastically increased in the last 2 years.
Wow!! The population went up... because of this little old video OR because it's a good place to live?
@@TreasureValleyDave I’m guessing affordability and possibly your video 😃
@@youtubinwithMissTina I would lean more toward affordability and just the great people there!
Treasure Valley realtors should stay there. No shortage of them here!
It's true... they are all over!
Let’s get to the real elephant 6 percent on purchase price usually results in 25 percent on sellers equity. Who buys someone a Land Rover to write a contract. Real estate agents the last scam going of a bunch moms with little contract knowledge chasing outrageous commissions.
I'm sure that happens in some of the cases... the good thing, everything is negotiable. And, truth be told, everything has always been negotiable. Ohhhh we could have a long lunch talking about all the people or professions who are overpaid... and all of the folks who should be paid more. But no one is going to make me king for the day... so I can't change anything. But we'd have a good lunch anyway!
My whole family is from Idaho and I went HS at Nampa High in '87, but I have never been back. This is astounding!
Wow! 1987! Thanks have probably changed a little bit since then! But the people are still good people here... might be time for a visit!
@@TreasureValleyDave In 1987, being from California made me an oddity. I was cornered at my locker by a flock of girls berating me. They made it clear that Larua was a good girl, and she was going to stay that way. She wasn't going to be corrupted by a 'California guy!' To this day, I have no idea who Laura was.
@@ericdavis1660 Oh my goodness!! You must have looked like a rock n roll star or something! I'm sure Laura turned out fine... but she surely missed out on what could have been a life-changing encounter!
@@TreasureValleyDave 😂 Nooo, I was on the debate team and carried a briefcase to high school. But in the 1980's Idaho, it took all that to convince everyone that I wasn't Jeff Spicoli. Ms. Rosenberg was our beloved debate couch. Mr. Stiner taught English wearing a handlebar mustache. The football coach taught history. I believe the counselor was a Mr. Gun. It was as Americam as anything could be, and a very good year.
@@ericdavis1660 🤣🤣🤣 Fast Times at Caldwell High!! Oh yeah...so American! Heck, Paul Revere & the Raiders came from there... you know it was American!! Ahhhh, the good old days! Fortunately, it still feels like that here!
Can we use the $25K incentive to buy out of the HOA? LOL!
I'm guessing not... but what IF you started your own HOA?!! Wow! That could be fun!! No boring people, taco trucks every Tuesday, and everyone has to sleep in until 10am!!!
I must second the sound effects being "overboard". Some heavy metal music fading in and out might be better. 😊 I wouldn't mind seeing a similar drive from Northern Meridian 26 to Boise State. Overall, this was quite interesting, and I found your comments to be helpful. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the feedback, AM! I'll make that commute tour video... should be pretty interesting!!
@@TreasureValleyDave Sure, you bet, Dave. Thanks for considering the Meridian to Boise State on 26 drive! I'd appreciate any comments about the winter commute on this route. 👍👍👍
@@audiophileman7047 Absolutely! Some winter perspective... piece o' cake!
@@TreasureValleyDave 👍👍👍
Went a little overboard with the sound effects, Dave 😂
I knew it was going to be a boring ride... wanted a little spice in the soup! But as far as commutes go, this wasn't all that bad! (My camera mount... footage of me... was way too shaky. I'll have to figure something out.)
I live here and I like it more and more all the time what's not to like
Caldwell is a great town! So much good stuff going on there. I do wish they hadn't put in parking meters. We have a chalk guy in Nampa and that works just fine.
How will the election play apart in the housing market?
Good question... who really knows?! I did read recently that 42% of the buyers were going to wait until after the election to move forward. Maybe that means, for example, they are hoping that where they live now will become more conservative like Idaho and then they won't have to move. I suppose that could mean that liberals in Boise hope Idaho turns "blue" after the election so they don't have to move back to California or Washington state. Another factor could be; what does "The Fed" think about the results of the election and what will they do with interest rates? We know what rates were under the first Trump term... and we know what they rocketed up to during the Biden/Harris administration. So there's some market forces at play and some national economic forces at play... all waiting to see what the election brings. I can go out on a limb here and say, I really don't see Marxist states/cities/areas turning away from that regardless of what changes the election may bring.
the million dollar question everyone wants to know!
So true! I'm pretty happy with our healthcare here... but I would rather stay healthy and avoid all that if possible!
@@TreasureValleyDave I wonder if its better than nevadas. Where I currently live. I had to call the drs office for 2 days and no one answered the phone. I had to send them an email...

I'm in Nampa and St. Al's has a really nice hospital here. St. Luke's has a nice one too. When I needed some work on my heart, I got to see my cardiologist right away and I got into cardio center the next day. I was very happy with how quick things went and the level of care we've received.
@@TreasureValleyDave oh good!

Biden, the job killer. Always on the wrong side of the argument.
Absolutely 💯
Honest feedback... I enjoy your videos, but the music on this one was way too much. I had to back out. Til the next one! ❤
Thanks for the feedback! Was it too loud... or the type of music? I appreciate knowing so I can make 'em better in the future. Thanks!
@@TreasureValleyDave Type of music and pitch.... hurt my ears. Not really needed, but if desired a peaceful Sunday drive background would be better. This reminded me of the old Casio keyboard I had as a kid with electronic selections.
@@bluejeansandteacups7801 I gotcha! Something easy and peaceful... not the hard edge. The music is from TH-cam... they have some music that content creators can use that won't run afoul of they copyright rules. We kind of have to take what we can get... but, to be fair, TH-cam does have a pretty good amount of music clips to pick from. Thanks for the honest feedback!
Great Video
Thanks, Steve!!
I think the buyers and sellers should pay for their own realtors. It shouldn’t be one sided .
That works for me... and it works for some sellers and buyers too. Some buyers need the help... and everything is negotiable.
Real estate agents generally offer prospective buyers/sellers VALUE for their $$$ spent. What has Joe offered voters for his half century of self-service in government?
I'm guessing Joe took care of himself first. He is, after all, "the big guy".
More laws, more laws, more laws, more laws. Then we are all in prison.
I just picked up the book Three Felonies a Day. We are all headed to prison... or maybe we're already in it.
Use traditional rates of 6% sale price because it best serves your interest? When will enough be enough and 6% is just to much? when the home values double? like since 2020? (so, your worth double for the same work performed just a few years earlier) greed should be called out.
Absolutely, greed should be called out! The good thing... everything is negotiable! If the seller isn't happy... if the buyer isn't happy... if the agent isn't happy... they can all just stop and not work with each other. No harm, no foul. And... this has been the way it's always been... and it's the way it will always be (unless the government gets involved and takes away the rights of people to negotiate and freely contract... which I could see that happen).
Is there anywhere to kayak near Caldwell other than Lake Lowell?
Good question... I would guess in the Boise River (runs along the north side of Caldwell in the direction of Middleton). Maybe over in Marsing... they have the Snake River there plus some sheltered water park areas. Those are both pretty close. I know you can go tubing (so I would think kayaking too) on the Boise River through Boise to Eagle. A little further out is Black Canyon Park just on the other side of Emmett. Lots of water fun to be had there!
Agree totally!!! I was in Indian steak house and there were no customers. The waitresses blamed the parking meters!
I guess those politicians are just wanting citizens to vote for someone else.
Cool
Cool is cool on a hot day like today 😎
Is caldwell improving?
@@TreasureValleyDavedo people go to indian creek a lot?
@@mmmm7433 I think so. Lots of great areas and things to do. The downtown is awesome! Mr V's and Hamburger Connection are still the best places for lunch! But if I have to say something negative, it's the City Council recently put in parking meters downtown. That's a big pain in the but and several business owners have said that their business traffic is down. I was there recently. After my meeting in downtown, I still had time to kill and wanted to stop in a book store. However, I knew my time was just about to expire so I had to skip shopping... and spending money with local small businesses. I'm of the opinion that the City Council made a very bad decision. I can just imagine that some parking meter vendor came to town and said "you'll be able to get all this free money... after you pay our cut". Politicians love "free" money... and they put up with voters once every couple of years.
@@mmmm7433 Oh yeah... it's always got kids and families and people just enjoying all the cool things there. Sometimes they have bands on the stage and other times there are plays for kids. And... I was looking... no bums or sketchy people hanging out. Very safe feeling!
Love your stuff, Dave! I've been trying to get my parents to move to the Treasure Valley and you have the exact personality they'd listen to. I'm going to push them to give you a call here soon
Thanks!! Mareen and I are always excited about helping people find their better quality of life! You probably already know, but I have some great resources on my website, www.TreasureValleyDave.com Can't wait to have lunch with you and your parents!
My wife and I moved to Elmore county just outside Mountain Home in 2020. We love it here. A much more relaxed place compared to Boise, Meridian and Eagle. But that is okay, yall can stay in the Treasure Valley. 🥰
I got that feeling about Mountain Home... very relaxed and easy going. Rick, glad you guys love it there!! My last newsletter was about the Foxtail Bookstore on Main Street. If you'd like to get on the list for my once-a-week newsletter (that I actually make... not written by someone on the other side of the world), just add your name here: www.GetDavesEmail.com

And the merry-go-round and the monkey bars! Recess was a learning experience!!
Fun fact 11:56 Harmon Killebrew was born in that house.
Really!! I had no idea 😃
Looks like a lot of the homes in Mountain Home have been there for a long time. It was good to see that you stopped at all the "Stop" signs and Stop Lights. Do people actually stop for these signals in Idaho? I noticed how people obeyed the traffic rules as you drove. They even parked in the designated spot when parallel parking! How nice and orderly that is. It's the way I like it. Idaho has a ballot initiative that people really need to be concerned about in November. You may already know about it. It's called the "Idaho Top-Four Ranked-Choice Voting Initiative". If Idahoans don't reject the Initiative, they'll be subject to outside interference during the party primaries. That will ensure more RINO's and more D's get elected. 😲It never seems to end in Idaho; they never sleep.😲😲
Happy Tuesday! I would say that most people are pretty compliant with traffic rules. You'll even notice that others will let you in instead of cutting you off. Lot of ex-Californians say that, after a couple of months, they are just more chill with their driving and drive more reasonably. Just not that heightened level of stress when driving... or when living... in Idaho. Yes, very aware of the RCV initiative likely to be on the ballot. Our Idaho AG is doing everything possible to keep it off the ballot. Our next legislature is already talking about how to terminate RCV come the next session in January. I've also heard how the "open primary" aspect of this initiative could be a way to totally mitigate Democrats in Idaho. With so few Demos to start with (15% of registered voters), organized conservative voters could could vote against the most liberal candidates... effectively forcing Dems to run more conservative candidates. But therein is a problem with this initiative that our AG has pointed out. By law in Idaho, an initiative can only be for one thing... and this initiative is for two things; RCV and open primaries. It will be interesting to see how things play out.
@@TreasureValleyDave Thanks, Dave and happy Tuesday to you too. Vote that initiative down; it's designed to keep true conservatives out as much as possible. That's how it started in California. It's the slow chipping away, and the next thing you know you're living in something like Cuba.
@@audiophileman7047 That is soooo true. Many, many patriots... including the ones in our legislature and the down-ticket offices... are fully aware of the Gem State Heist that "they" keep running at Idaho. If anything, "their" efforts have only solidified the resolve of Idaho's patriot community. And that is a substantial community!!
@@TreasureValleyDave Thank God for the patriot movement in Idaho who understand that their life and freedom come from God, not the government. 👍👍👍 They're trying really hard to turn Florida and Texas, big electoral vote states, but Idaho will very likely prevail in keeping itself sane and free.
@@audiophileman7047 Very true. If Idaho doesn't prevail, she will be the last one to fall.
