HOW THE ISUZU AUTO TRANSMISSION WORKS IN A TOYOTA 80 SERIES
มุมมอง 1.2K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Using the Aussie 4J Adaptors kit, you can see how easy it is to do the 4JJ1 engine conversion with the Isuzu 4speed auto. This also uses the LandCruiser transfer Case, meaning it will keep the full time 4WD system.

Love the QLD safety work boots
Can't believe you cut the girdle on the engine spraying dust and steel filings into the bottom of the engine, should have taken if off, or at least made a better attempt of protecting the engine. If main cap bolts are only torqued, not angle of turn, doubt they yielded, so could have taken it off and then refitted.
Caught most the filings and cleaned up the rest, should be fine. It'll all fall into the sump anyway :)
Great work, Corey and well done for 1k subscribers! To keep up with the trends on TH-cam, maybe consider adding some bikinis to your videos
Annoying background music. Skipped
Thank you :)
So keen to see this, as i will be doing the same in the distant future.
I'll be doing a full run through once it's up and running and my true thoughts on the quality of the conversion - expecting it to be good!
Where did you bought the engine mate and how much did it cost you?
Top secret ;)
This is something I've always wanted to do but have neither the time or space, so im loving watch every step of the build. Cheers for sharing your efforts
I cannot wait to see this 80 series Landcruiser driving. I have watched all your videos and I really enjoy them, keep up the good work mate.
Thanks mate, appreciate the enthusiasm and glad you're enjoying it! It'll be up and running in the next month or so, taking some time to install the performance bits, which you'll see on video :)
interested -> subbed
Awesome, thank you!
Looking forward to the next vid! Im looking to do something similar to my 80
Yeah mate, stay posted, lots of cool stuff to come! Installing the crank girdle as we speak ;)
have you had any mechanical assistance on the conversion, or just by yourself
All by myself thus far! Might need to outsource some of the electrics though, not my fortay :P
Good luck with the build, I'm keen to see how it performs on road. I like the idea of the 4jj1 but I hope that a340e holds up.
Thanks mate, not too long now and it'll be back in and running! a340e is a very strong box, plus I have upgraded the valve body and torque converter 👌👌
Why post such a waste of everyones time teaser video??
Keep scrolling through the other videos of the build mate, that was months ago!
Aftermarket down pipe.
Correct, my mouth moves faster my brain sometimes... Haha
Don't use that fuel filter. It's not designed to filter as fine as a commonrail system requires.
Thanks mate, definitely putting on an additional fuel filter system to suit the 4JJ1, don't want to risk it!
@TheEverydayExplorerAUS You will also get some extra bonnet clearance for the intake if you remove the throttle body. Just be aware it needs to stay plugged in to the ecu. It can be removed with a remap if your tuner knows how. Who is tuning it?
@@bennyjahmin3953 Performance 4x4 at this stage. If I can gain a few inches I won't need the new intake, so I will take a look! :)
Garage looking epic mate!
It ain't going to work mate, you've got to remove the spacer between the gearbox and the transfer case. The new bracket takes up that space. BTW the Isuzu box is actually a Toyota box it's made by Aisin, so your options for other types of Toyota transfer cases are wide open!
Yeah the Aisin A340e 4 speed came out in heaps of Holden, Isuzu and Toyota's. Why would this NOT work in my application? Isuzu 4JJ1, A340 from a Colorado and then the adaptor to keep the full time 80 series transfer? :)
@@TheEverydayExplorerAUS He's taking about the spacer between the Isuzu transmission. the piece with the blue sensor in it @4:18. that also needs to be removed for the 4j adaptor kit.👍
Thanks for the feedback, I will take a look! I swear the bolt pattern lined up, but I'll sus it out, thanks! :)
@@TheEverydayExplorerAUS the bolt pattern will be the same as the bolts goes through the aluminium spacer, but the main shaft will not reach the transfer case.
@@mullerandre95 there is a spud shaft though that sits in between the transfer and transmission?
Hey mate how much are you selling the gear box for
Message me on insta - @the.everyday.explorer.aus :)
I have 4JK1 2,5L with 184 Horsepower with no problems(manual) if i had 4JJ1 i would get extra 16horsepower i think that generation goes like this Old school -> Modern diesel 4JA1 --> 4JK1 4JH1 --> 4JJ1
It's all about the platform, fully built 4j is pushing 1400hp in Thailand, proven platform for horsepower
4D56, most durable and longlasting engine
Thats the mits triton engine?
Good idea with the 4 speed I tow with both The 4 speed tows way better 5 speed just doesn’t know what it’s doing
Great to hear mate, thanks! Almost sounds like I know what I'm talking about haha
Why not a 1kd ?
I can get Isuzu parts much easier, plus the 4J is awesome!
Due to popularity in video's such as this, won't be long before 4JJ's are just as expensive as 1HDt's, when the wreckers cotton on to another rip-off potential.
Better get on the band wagon early then and do a 4J swap ;)
mazda 3 are the best engines
Something tells me it wouldn't suit my engine swap..... :P
If you want power turbo an fz If you want a good mix with good economy, get an 80 series with a 1hdft If you have a 1HZ slap a turbo on it If you insist on having a 4-cylinder Land Cruiser, buy a Patrol zd30
I had a turbo 1HZ, soooo slow! Ft 80s are ridiculously expensive and hard to find in good condition. Whats the difference between 4 cylinder patrol and cruiser? I'll keep my 80 series any day ;)
There a great engine until you run power then you have crank breakages, main caps breaking and block damage. Im on my 4th engine .
Yeah mate, very common, especially on a manual 4jj1. Glad I'm installing all the good bits to fix that, stay tuned ;)
@@TheEverydayExplorerAUS what good bits you planning? Ive snapped 2 x mrx cranks aswell as standard ones. Even the built motors with billet main caps and new rosso harmonic balancers still blow to bits. Im back to an unopened engine from wreckers and f44 turbo at 240hp and its lasted 10 000kms so far.
@@caseychristmas1847 Ross balancer and the new crank girdle from Modified Explorer. I feel the girdle will make the most difference, as the main caps won't be able to twist or walk on the crank, causing the stress point. So many factors so 🤞🤞
Best of luck with it mate, hopefully the engine last longer then mine did.
@@caseychristmas1847 out of curiosity, is yours manual?
Love the 4j idea can’t wait to see it finished I’ve just finished a Barra swap in my 80 it’s ok on fuel I do agree it uses to much
Thanks mate, a good, powerful, fuel efficient diesel option for the 80 will be great! Love the batta swapped vehicles, but not the best for towing regularly :)
Just did a trip Melbourne to Mount Gambier with a swan used 19.5 L per 100 ok I guess for what it is
I’ve travelled 20k km so far in my Isuzu , towing , i can’t fault the engine so will be interested in how it performs after your conversion , Great to learn how relatively easy it is to install,
Haven't finished the install yet....... ;) nah, so far so good!
FTE the world!! haha nah its always cool seeing what other engines people use.
Yeah mate FTE's are amazing, not going to lie! But I also wanted to do something different ;)
Can’t wait to see it run ,cool mate
Thanks mate! Me too, but not before I bolt on all the go fast bits! ;)
Raaaaaaa! Ok Plug and play and using the isuzu gearbox as well. if its plug an play it seems easier than a patrol-4j convertion
Yeah mate, should be pretty close to it! Plus 80s are better ;) subscribe to the channel to watch the full install in the coming weeks!
Will it be mostly off-road or towing will you build it for towing or 4x4ing??
Touring and towing mate. I've been around Australia in this rig and done the top tier tracks as is, goes well! :)
Hey mate I keep looking into these grill lights but the only ones I can find say TOVOTA can you point me in the right direction, cheers
Would be cool when you finish it and have a little race against Tom from Roam life with his 4jj1 patrol. Also very interested in the fuel consumption in the cruiser after the swop. What type of conversion kit are you using to marry the engine to the body?
Challenge accepted! Would love to see both of the big busses rolling down a dragway! The kit is from a company called Aussie 4J Adaptors, which I talk about and show off in the next video. All bolts in!
You are actually doing this on your own, Go your own Way !, Great to see the engine out , also see your wearing the appropriate footwear for the task 😂
Gotta love the Chinese safety boots! 4jj1 is going into the chassis this weekend - woop woop!
I’ll be in Bris this weekend, I’ll need to come by to tick it off 🎉
Finally the first long form video for the project! Love it! 👌🏽 Shed looks awesome and I am sure the car will look and work just as well
You've been waiting a long while, I know 😆 plenty more to come!
If your 80 series leaks, that's a you problem.
Problems require solutions. Solution = 4JJ1 engine swap!
Did you make this yourself mate? I need one for my 80 💪
No mate, I got it shipped in from overseas, however I haven't seen it be used as a grill light, so it'll be unique!
one way to grow a channel . lets see how this build go's and if you start a new common engine swap for 80s
Thanks mate - I have partnered with Aussie 4J Adaptors to build a complete kit to bolt it in! 👌
First time I've heard of a 4JJ1 being swapped into an 80, very unique I like it! I'll definitely be watching this build closely :D
It is a first! More power, better driveability, fuel economy and the reliability of the 4J makes this a perfect combo!
If the Garage conversion is anything to go by, then the engine conversion should be a ripper, looking forward to seeing more
It's going to be pretty epic and I promise no expenses have been spared 💲😆
Looks good ❤👍 🎉
Thank you, great bit of kit!
@TheEverydayExplorerAUS hi mate, where do I get one.
Thinking I want this option in my 105 series please do a video of how you go about doing this,
On the way! Easier in a 105.
Really need to know more about this
Yep. I potentially want to put a 4JJ1 in my 40 series cruiser
Videos are on the way in 2024! So keen to show this off, it's a ripper conversion!
