    When two materials collide, the soft one deforms more, so the harder material “wins.” You really need to replace the PLA wedges with TPU if you can’t spare weight because of how squishy it is, or buy steel or titanium wedges from SendCutSend. As others have said, you can also buy tin snips and 0.8mm titanium from Fingertech robotics. You could even use the PLA as a spacer with Ti on top of it.

  • @paydaygh9388
    @paydaygh9388 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

    PLA is very brittle on impacts. Try TPU 85A, TPU 95A, or if you prefer stiff materials PLA+. If you can make weight you could even do 1 steel fork from SendCutSend (AR500 is my fave), or 2 aluminum forks (7075 is best, 6061 is acceptable but you should go for 7075 if possible).

    For mounting brushed motors, a good way to do it is to design a feature in the chassis that hugs the flat sides of the motor itself. Great improvement so far!

    If you screw static forks to the front sides of the chassis, that will slightly squish to the floor and be a very effective ground game without the need for being hinged. Also, you can save lots of weight by printing your own wheel hubs and keeping them on with shaft collars, this could go into a possible TPU wedge, or a wider chassis design for less gyro effects. Awesome job so far, love the improvements!

    Great recap! I use 2-3mm uhmw for my front armor. It can be self fabricated with heavy duty scissors or metal snips and a drill. It can be heat set into shape using a heat gun. It is sacrificial armor that lasts pretty long and can take a hit.

    I made a similar design in college: You should heavily consider attaching the weapons at an angle. Them having a little bit of the effect of a vertical spinner lets the spinners “lift” the feet, making it way easier to move. Buy a separate BEC to plug into your main battery. That way you won’t need a separate battery for the receiver. Saves weight, and some competitions might not be happy about the receiver not being disable-able. I’ve also lost fights and fried electronics by forgetting to recharge receiver batteries.

    It was great chatting with you at the Turkey Brawl, and this update video is fantastic! Seeing Karlton379 get a shoutout was awesome. You might want to experiment with moving the blade forward slightly so the weapon’s tooth can hit opponents at a lower point. Just be cautious-if it’s too far forward, you might end up flipping yourself with every hit.

    This isnt a gyro walker, its a reaction walker, droopies blades are angled slightly so one side lifts up as it rotates thus allowing it to walk, yours doesent do that so its not a gyrowalker since there are no gyroscopic forces involved with moving as it purely uses the reaction of the motor toruqe

    Fun fact: most events don't check weight after the the initial safety test or at all. You can run whatever config you want in the future but do design for the weight allowance and don't abuse it. Event organizers will allow a bit of leeway especially for new builds.

  • @paydaygh9388
    @paydaygh9388 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    On the battery VS speed thing: electric motors are based on RPM per Volt (commonly called KV), so higher voltage means they run faster. Running the 2S 7.4v meant you were 33% slower on your drive and weapon. Also, because torque is based on amps, and Volts equals amps times resistance (with motor resistance being assumed constant), a 50% increase in voltage will also be a 50% increase in amps and therefore 50% increase in torque. This means more pushing power and better acceleration on both the weapon and drive.

    • @Morayrobotics23
      @Morayrobotics23 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow I never would have figured that out. That’s great to know.

    Very important lesson here: ALWAYS have something as hard as a weapon (titanium, Ar4/5/600 steel, ETC) for your wedge or front armor when fighting horizontals. You want them to bounce or glance off, but they will dig in if they hit plastic. This is especially true for verts. They will bounce off your wedge/front into your weapon if you have a solid front, but will rip and tear your front and launch you away if you have a soft front.

    hey good job we all start somewhere,im new to ants myself and debuting an ant myself, funnily enough aerators goin to the event too so thatll be a test. Luckily my teammates who have won a few events have been giving me good tips. I hope you continue to improve the design,i have some recommendations for moray, for top and bottom use 1mm Carbon fiber, its super light and durable,i use it on beetles all the time as well. have 2 uprights and get motor w a long shaft that goes through the other upright, itll help keep it from going askew and just put a bearing on the other side to keep it in place. Uprights you should change to quarter inch uhmw. UHMW wont bend,itll just chip away but in ants and beetles its extremely common and effective also cheap. see you doing repeat brushed which is also the biggest improvement to get. Hope this helps and good luck w the future version of moray!

      Thank you. I was actually just listening to Team Stamina on Behind the Bots. The next version of Moray should have a carbon fiber top plate, but the bottom plate would also be a good idea.
