Biography
Elisabed Bagrationi, known to everyone as Liza, was born on July 21, 1974 in Tbilisi, Georgia.
The Bagrationi family are not only Georgia's royal family but also historically one of Georgia's most musical family. Listing many musical celebrities in the royal dynasty, some of the most famous performers in the Bagrationi family are Liza's great grandmother, Olga Amirejibi, the first recorded singer in Georgia at the beginning of the 20th century, Liza's grandfather Jano Bagrationi, an iconic Georgian singer, dancer, and choreographer, and Liza's uncle, Jano Bagrationi jr., an acclaimed Georgian singer.
Therefore, Liza's interest in music started developing at a very early age. Growing up in a family of musicians meant that the house was always full of prominent musical figures from Georgia and abroad.These experiences have significantly shaped Liza's future career choices although she did not become a professional singer right away. Always eager to play and sing in the circle of friends, Liza's professional career as a signer did not start until mid-1990s.
Liza attended a Special Music School in Tbilisi between 1980 -1990, actively performing as a piano player during these years.After graduating from the Institute of Foreign Languages in Tbilisi in 1995 she briefly left Georgia and went to New York in order to study and work for the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts. During her time at the Lincoln Center she worked for the Midsummer Swing Festival. Upon her return from the US, Liza started performing professionally and immediately rose to success with Georgia's most distinguished composers and singers soon inviting her to participate in their concerts and other musical projects.
Liza is an exceptionally diverse, colourful performer. She often performs along the Georgian National Symphony Orchestra and the State Opera Symphony Orchestra. At the same time she loves performing with ensembles, various bands, and especially enjoys performing duets. Liza has been long acclaimed for her exceptional deliveries of the classical Russian romance songs and beautiful covers of English and American traditional pop songs and jazz standards. It is remarkable how even the most classical songs performed by her immediately become the most popular hits on television and radio.
What makes her stand out is her unique approach to music: traditional and yet innovative, classical and yet always in tune with the contemporary
musical trends. This is why Liza never ceases to surprise her audiences with extraordinary performances.
Liza is a winner of numerous singing competitions. She has been nominated as 'A Singer of the Year' a number of times and has performed for many distinguished national and international figures, including the Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II, the US president George Bush, and the Latvian president Vaira Vike-Freiberga.
In 2013 Liza had solo concert tours in Estonia and Ukraine with Pärnu and Crimea Symphony Orchestras.
