Am I the only one who thought that this song could be abt the girl being emotionally manipulative? Like I interpreted it as such: The boy gets abused by a family member-who is it? It’s not specified. He finds a girl who falls in love with him, and no matter how many times he tries to ward her off, she doesn’t give up. So they begin to date, as the boy was worn down to saying yes. Eventually, he wants to break up, but every time he tries to bring the conversation up, she guilts him into staying, by saying it’s only them against the world, and he falls for it everytime. So unknowing of what to do to get her to leave, THEN he begins to hit her. I don’t believe he thought it was to show love. I just think he wanted her to leave. But as you can see, she never ended up leaving. Also: let me specify, hitting her to get her to leave is NOT excusable at all. I just believe it started out in a certain way and progressed into physical abuse, as he learned from the specific family member or what not. So in conclusion: they’re both toxic and bad for eachother.
