Nice one Colin, thanks for showing it.
Badger!
Saw the crane today, a great bit of Meccano. It has come all the way from Preston.
don't know what time the lift is but 27th tomorrow if all go's well TO WINDY 27th
The lock and masonry is in excellent condition. That turned wood was pretty amazing.
Great to see two steam locos in service there, since normally they just run their home-based red stalwart. The green scenery is beautiful too! :)
Many thanks for for filming the Carreghofa locks and the Wharfingers house which we rented as a holiday let many years ago it brought back some very happy memories we used to sit at the dining room table which was situated in the bay window which juts out on stilts at the gable end of the house and over looks the canal and locks and enjoy the wonderful views ,we also walked over the Aqueduct many times .it is great to know one day it will be rejoined to the rest of “The Monty” and become a navigable canal once again . Terence hammond
I have ridden behind Joan a couple of times.
Me too
Interesting rural walk.. it's quite relaxing
Fabulous.
They are very good.
yes wish I could play a musical instrument they say I should join but I cant even follow a beat
@@colin125gwr You should have a go Colin, I have just joined my local ukulele group, it`s good fun.
Nice video Colin, We were stood near (what was) Barclays bank. Video up soon.
Very interesting, some nice layouts from the past.
The wood and canvas canoe in the old photos, is a PBK20 by P.W. Blandford in 50's, Great old photos. Dave
They have done a good neat job. must have cost a fortune. Excellent viseo Colin. We are down your way on Friday.
Once the roof slates were stolen, the buildings on Freestone lock soon deteriated, what a shame! From here the canal is in water to just into England.
Your film ends at the sewer works, the dry section beyond to Dolfor lock and to Freestone lock will be back under the canals ownership, I believe. Dave
last I heard CRT own Freestone lock and the canal below it but Dolfor lock and the dry bit was Severn Trent Water or who ever took them over
I love the old photos of the pumphouse. Dave.
The title could be read 2 ways.. !!
Yes clickbait sorry
@@colin125gwr Well if i was a little fishy wishy.. i want more click bait.. am trying raise a shoal ;-)))
Super video just strolling down the canal path! I've done it many times and took my drone down to see the restoration work party the other day. It's on my channel and I had an altercation with someone who didn't like me filming... some strange people about! Thanks again .
thanks just watch yours photos from the other day of work site th-cam.com/video/MkL28MB9Vv4/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Great video Colin, just like being there.
Thank you for your regular updates. Such a lovely canal with such a calming atmosphere. There is excitment too with the prospect of advancement into the the yet to be cleared sections.
Thank you for sharing this as l doing this walk in cup of weeks ❤
Crikey, Colin that is a bit wet. Not been bad up here in Bolton.
been lovely and sunny been on a boat trip on the Montgomery Canal then thunder lightning and heavy rain the Kerry road was shut tonight flooded
What a beautiful part of the world. This canal project is close to the Cambrian Heritage railway, right on the Welsh border. This area will be due for a grand awakening at this rate! Not being familiar with the area as I live many miles distant, a map showing the canal route with the parts restored, those still to be rescued, plus those navigable woud be so useful .Thanks for such an interesting journey.

Thank you, Colin.@@colin125gwr
A lot of trees to be removed, but basically the canal bed is already there and realtively in a good shape. I hope this will be restored soon and the section south of Llanymynech will be connected to the network in a not so distant future...
it will take time
I’m almost 80 now and grew up in that area. I used to look at the canal every time we went from Newtown to Welshpool or Oswestry. Mother used tell me stories about when the boats used to run up into Newtown. Canal Rd having a tannery and a flannel mill. That end has all been filled in regrettable , out to around Llanllwchaiarn, meaning Newtown will miss out when it reopens as it surely will. I just hope that I live too see it.
😀😀😀👍👍👍
Brilliant
Nice slideshow Colin. It is a beautiful city. I live just outside in Bolton. nice to see Mr. Owen there too.
Very interesting Colin, I can almost smell the wild garlic.
Very interesting photos Colin, will it really be worth the money and effort?
No a complete waste of money
Couldn't hear the commentary!

I remember chugging across this aqueduct in a narrowboat back in 1976. It seemed very high and the weather was very hot.
glad to see anglo welsh still have a good set of boats at Trevor. caroline
Thanks for the update, they certainly look like they're making progress.

Thanks for tthe montage of the Newtown end of the Montgomery canal Colin, you might be the right person to ask, did or was it intended that the canal would join to the river Severn and is the river deep enough in Newtown (used to go yhrough Newtown on my way to Llandrindod but since the bypass not often now) for canal boat navigation?
No the canal was not intended join to the river Severn at Newtown it had lots of weir to power the factories back in the old days and the water for the canal basin was pump up out of the river below the town weirs . No plans that I know of to use the river for canal boats. The last plan I saw was to cross the river and build a canal basin near the town cemetery near the new bridge but the route has since been built on. I have heard they're going to do a new feasibility study do not know when
sorry this video is a bit Glitchy
Looking very good Colin, thanks for the update.
Great progress. Such a joy seeing these old canals slowly coming back to life.
Postcode please or some way of knowing where this is and its context in the canal as a whole. What was the cost, please? Did the County Council pay some or all of the cost? What is the width of the carriageway as it crosses the canal? What input was given by the canal (?) Trust in terms of labour, material and funds? The result is more pleasing to the eye than the original. Well done all who have been involved.

Thank you . The canal Trust in Norfolk contemplates a similar exercise in Norfolk on the North Walsham and Dilham Canal. This statutory navigation has been obstructed by the County Council who admit their liability.. The CC claim that a new bridge in unaffordable. The Trust looks at similar works, their cost and practicalities hence my questions. Thanks for your swift response and the information that you are able to provide so far. .@@colin125gwr
A great job. I look forward to the excavation of the canal taking place.
What does this look like now? Can you do an update video?
