Introducing: Mama Margaret Took an Axe
I'm listening to the audiobooks rn and I'm on chapter 9 of the return of the king. The cool action-packed and emotional scenes are GREAT but the rest of the book is so slow? The important bits of info are so far and few between but Tolkien doesn't even fill the empty spots w character development for the other characters. Like i wanna hear legolas and gimli's perspectives. Idk i love the books but its definitely got flaws
Yes. There are so many slow parts and to be honest, not a lot of character development at all. If you have seen the movies, I think that they definitely changed some of the characters so they would develop more throughout the films. In my opinion, the only development really is Legolas and Gimli becoming friends. Haha. But other than that everyone else is pretty consistent throughout. Have you read The Hobbit? Because I thought Bilbo actually had development there which was nice. I still LOVE the books though. They're a good read and as someone who has only seen the films, it was really interesting to see what was changed and wonder why.
That was a good book review. really does make me want to go an an adventure again. sadly i havent had one in a long time. You are my favourite book reviewing channel! stay awsome!
@@steinmetz3336 Thank you!
First
@@christianerickson2660 Congratulations!
Great video! I also just fished up the Silmarillion. As a huge fantasy book/series fan, this is the first time I found myself with a notebook and pen to help me keep track of it all. I loved this!
@@rmvmoose27 Thank you! And yes, so much to keep track of. I hope you enjoyed the book as well. It was hard to get into it for me but I loved it by the end.
I've always loved the Great Brain books. I was a lot like Tom and still am haha
@@BrainyGavinLee They are SO great still even as an adult. Totally love them.
Greetings from good old germany.
Greetings!
I wonder how far the dr was from the location?
Good question. I don't remember if it was stated anywhere. I just found it strange how long it took for people to think to get to him. Haha. Not that he would have been able to save John because I don't think anyone could and maybe they realized that
@@tatesapb right. The story was absolutely fantastic. I am a TH-cam crime show watcher. And I had no idea about this case never heard of it before.. I think I heard it mentioned on Stephanie korry Chanel .( I probably am spelling her name wrong). But when I heard the name in the case information I hurry up and started searching for it, and you're the only one that I found with it so I'm very delighted. I hope that your channel grows.
@@kjay15993 Thank you! It's been a while since I've done anymore crime related podcasts but if I find something that interests me enough I totally will.
Your very welcome. Gonna share this with friends to push the algorithm so more people will watch.
Double thank you! Any sharing would be amazing!
Very well done
Thank you so much!
Never heard this before but I'm here for it !
It was a super interesting case to me obviously. Haha. I would love to hear what you think about this episode as well
lol - u r right. once you were past the first 40 or so books (Jungle Pyramid is #56) they did get a bit ridiculous. don't give up on them yet. go back and read some of the earlier ones. try Crooked Arrow or Old Mill or Yellow Feather.
Haha. Definitely when I'm in the mood for something light and easy to read I can definitely revisit the Hardy Boys. Thanks for the suggestions!
you must realize that Mssr Collins is the narrator of this tale: How else would he write if not in the style of a Victorian novelist - which he is?😉 alas, many are the victims of attention span erosion in this vulgar, modern internet age
Haha. I do understand that, yes. But even then it was too long. And I have read Collins' book The Moonstone and quite enjoyed it. But I believe Dan Simmons trying to write as a Victorian author would just didn't cut it for me in the end. The build up was not worth the pay off for me for this one.
I couldnt live in the woods because then i couldnt watch Tater Tot on the youtubes!
Awww. Du bist ja süß!! Vielen Dank!
Just finished this book. I noticed the little teaser on the first page is written slightly differently in the book. Interesting tidbit
Interesting. Definitely did not notice that! I'll have to go back and look!
Very Interesting and a bold choice for a youngster to pick up, Impressive. I'm going to give this one a go. I'm trying to get away from the screen and into a book for a while. I also like video games of this sort so I expect it will be an enjoyable read. Thanks for another wonderful selection and review. 😊👍👍
Strangely enough it won an award for Children's Fantasy though as a child reading it I would have no idea what was happening and cannot imagine this ever being marketed as a Children's book. Haha. Definitely older teen to adult. And thank you! It was a fun read. Hope you enjoy it!
First! Wohooo!!!
Yay! Good for you Steinmetz!
This video is a year old, but I recently finished this book and was looking for any reviews. I had read two of his other books, "The Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance" and loved them. When I found TCM in a used bookstore, I took a chance. I could not put it down! You are right that he writes great characters. I don't usually like books with a bunch of characters. I spend more time trying to keep track of who is who, and miss much of the plot. Wouk is wonderful at making everyone so distinct. Even if I can't remember all the names, I still remember the personalities. I ended up with very mixed feelings about how it all ended. I didn't get to the point you did, where you respected Queeg. But I can't deny that I started to doubt my views of him. I may have to reread it to see if maybe I will see Queeg differently from the start. He was first presented as, at the very least, unlikeable, eccentric, and, at times, unstable. Maybe Wouk wrote it that way because he was presenting from the viewpoint of the characters and how they saw him, not necessarily how he actually was? When I got toward the end I found myself second guessing everything. I admit I didn't want to see Queeg in a more positive light because I really didn't like him at all. But he did make me question my own view of him. That said, I'm not sure how anyone can see the keys incident as anything but objectively insane. Or maybe... just the pressures of war and being trapped on a boat with people you know don't like you? I don't know. That's one of the mark of a great book. You can think about it and talk about it forever! Thanks for the review.
Yes! I usually have a hard time keeping track of too many people too. Haha. But you are right, even now I can't remember all the names, but I can remember the characters and what happens to them by the end even though it's been almost a year. So clearly this book has stuck with me. I feel like Queeg was suffering from exhaustion of war and dealing with the fact that yes, no one respected him, so even though the key incident was crazy no doubt, I think it was a slip. Kind of like a mental break because he was just so exhausted and stressed and such. Not that it makes it okay that he did that, like I said, it was still crazy, but even myself when I am tired and such am more likely to snap at people or not be as polite and such, and he was under way more stress than I had ever been so I feel like I sympathized more with him in the end even though he definitely was portrayed as a very unlikeable character and I could not wait for the mutiny to happen in the book, then once it was over, I was questioning if what the men did was okay and everything. Man, yes, it was so good. I am glad you enjoyed it and that someone else has read this book! And thank you for commenting with your thoughts - I really do enjoy talking about books!
I LOVE the way the narrative went! That's the way it would have gone down.
Thank you! Yes, I wanted one where the bad guy won because that is exactly what would have happened. Thank you!
The cinematic value is awesome! Keep it up!

Looks good fun! The only thing I would comment on is while the custom soundtrack is really nice, I would examine the sound design; when wearing headphones, at least the sound seemed to only come from the left or right and felt a bit muffled. I hope you folks keep at it!
Thank you! And good to know, this was my first time recording any music so feedback is always appreciated! We have so many more ideas as well for films but we just need the time as we do it for fun. Haha
Amazing!
Thank you so much!
I saw this book in our bookstore and will definitely buy it and read it because I love reading books and love cats. And I love books about books. And would love to read your book. If I could choose only one book to bring to a desert island it would be Babel by R.F. Kuang.
Got to check that book out. Never heard of Babel before! This was definitely one of my favorite books I have read so far.
in the good, the bad and the ugly, I especially love the scene where they blow up the bridge. Best scene ever
Are you just saying that because it annoyed the crappola outta me? Haha! Very good movie still.
i sat on a horse once! Also i really like L`Amours books. Hes so straight forward in his story telling. No unnececary annoying emotional blabla, only the main character doing what he has to do. Fast paced, easy to read and simply entertaining.
Very true! It was a good read and maybe you'll be reading it soon yourself. And that is how you write too! So you could write if you wanted. Short, simple and to the point.
Oh my Gosh the Funeral for the Doggo.. I remember that and the kids watching the water closet being installed lol. Hello there I'm Nozong and The Breat Brain was the first book I picked up off the shelf when I was just a tot myself. I fell in love with the books and have gone back to the library from time to time over the decades to revive the memories of kids getting swindled by the Brain Lol. I just ordered the complete set, 8 of them I believe. I am excited to curl up with my dog Lilly and read the entire series from start to finish. I think there's actually 2-3 of them that have not read so I'm almost gitty Lol. Have I ever swindled anyone Lol. Actually now that I think about it, Yes!! When I was a little kid I had G.I. Joe toys. My friends also had these action figures and when we would play together I made a rule that when my guys beat their guys I got to keep their dead G.I. Joes Lol. That's so awful, I forgot I used to do that un til now.. 🙄 Thankfully I out grew those shenanigans 😊.
Oh my gosh! That is hilarious! I love that you swindled kids with your GI Joe. That made me laugh so much! And they are so totally worth rereading. I read all of them again too and they are all so fun but still have good lessons in them! Glad you enjoy them too!

I have never heard anyone say that! Why a snake?
@@tatesapb I think they’re cool. I️ could be sneaky and also deadly. It would just be really fun.

You should watch Our Flag Means Death. It’s such a good Pirate show. -Ivy
Okay, I don't know why I am just seeing these comments now. Literally just popped up on my TH-cam. And I TOTALLY want to watch that show! Taika Waititi is one of my favorites and always makes me laugh!
I’ve been to lots of castles! I️ am a big fan of castles. -Ivy
I️ have heard such mixed reviews of this book, so I️ wasn’t thinking of picking it up. But if you suggest it I️ might still give it a try. -Ivy
There were definitely things I did not like about it. But overall her survival story is worth a read I think. Also the author is involved in a murder case now so that's interesting seeing as how this is a murder mystery...
The first book is on my list. I️ need to get to it! -Ivy
First book was fantastic! Second one, meh, but still worth reading. And I will definitely still read the third when it comes out.
I️ love that your outfits always matches the book! I️ have been wanting to read the Witcher books but it feels like a big commitment. -Ivy
It is a big commitment. I've only read the first three so far and they are really good, but it is still a lot. And actually, I think I like his short story collections better than the "put together" novel, but I'll still eventually read the rest of the books, especially since Netflix can't make the series fast enough. Haha!
I️ collect so many things! Masks, books, candles, etc. -Ivy
You should put your links to your site and your Instagram in the description of your videos! -Ivy
My favorite board game is Life, which I️ have found out is a pretty unpopular choice but I️ think it’s just a good wholesome fun time. -Ivy
This is one that’s been on my list for a long time. I️ should definitely pick it up at some point. It’s not very long, is it? -Ivy
Nah. It's definitely a short read and one I suggest.
Jekyll and Hyde is one of my favorites! -Ivy
you make for a pretty convincing ol lady. the oldest thing that i have is a spear head of some sort, i guess its from from the stone age.
Was?!? Warum habe ich das nicht gesehen! That's pretty cool. Now you know what I'll look like as an ol' lady. Haha!
I do not read but do like cats. would you still recomment?
I would still recommend it! (I know you can read). Plus there's a cat! And reading is good for you!
Could you help me find a book I read a loooooooooooooooooong time ago? It was about people who could be awake and conscious while asleep, living in our world but they had their own kingdom? It was a trilogy about some kids getting a queen (I think) back to her kingdom (the sleeping kingdom?). In the second book There was something called “wandering day” where they would go out into the world and find new members. Here’s a really scary part I remember, warning it’s very scary: There was also a forest where if you went in during the day there were monsters/beasts which would walk behind you and mimic the people who they killed (after turning around and looking at them which you weren’t allowed to do). Something about an army going into those woods and not coming back (this scared me lol even as typing this I realized it was messed up for an elementary school book) In the third book they got back to the “sleeping” kingdom and it’s the last kingdom (out of like 13) which hasn’t succumbed to the enemy army which is approaching. There is someone who was in the Air Force there. So the enemy army rolls up and the queen is shocked cus they have cannons (story was in modern times but they were medieval in the sleeping world/ kingdom??). The book ends with the queen charging out into the cannons “because they will never expect it”. That’s pretty much all I can remember I haven’t had much luck googling it since when I search with the sleeping terms I get weird books about lucid dreaming. Do my ramblings remind you of any book you have read?
I think a friend of mine just found it: “the sleeping king” trilogy, it’s written by an Air Force veteran sooo it’s probably that one. Along with the third book titled “the wandering war” it’s most likely that so I’m gonna go buy it now
I was just about to say I'll go research it and try to find it because it didn't ring any bells for me, but looks like you found it! Let me know if it is still good when you read it again! I will totally read it too if it is because it sounds super interesting.
“Murder is easy” idk if it is never tried loool. My friend had a pet parrot who would only say the world “watermelons” which was pretty strange. It lived for a couple of years and it was really old when it eventually passed away.
Okay yes, that is totally a random and weird word to say. Haha!
EIn alter Mann wollte Bronzevögel auf den Grabstein seiner Frau. Er sagte, seine Frau wäre immer gut zu vögeln gewesen. Sorry this joke does not translate well into americanish. its a bit naughty ;-)
