U2 - A Sort of Homecoming (Extended Live Version / Different Mix)
This is what I consider to be a "could have been" mix of A Sort of Homecoming. I've combined the standard version with the Alternate Vocal / Different Mix found on the Australian Unforgettable Fire 12" to allow for a song structure more similar to the album cut - including Edge's harmony vocals on the first verse and a complete second verse. This song was recorded at a sound check and produced by Tony Visconti and is only "live" in that there is crowd noise added. Obviously they did different vocal takes. There are multiple Edge vocal overdubs throughout the alternate version as well as a completely different vocal performance by Bono. I edited two slightly different versions (audio) and couldn't decide which I liked best so I've incorporated both in the video. I first put this mix together 5 years ago and am finally posted it. I hope U2 fans enjoy it.

If you are from the US, this is the version of RIO you grew up with. This is arguably the best mix of the song. This is an amazing song, however, it does not stay true to the original on The Unforgettable Fire album and leaves out the one of the best parts near the end - "See the sky the burning rain, she will die and live again, tonight." I never understood why they stopped singing this part.

Great job on the mix! I've always thought the live version of this song was ALL Larry. Listen to how he pounds the shi* out those high toms. He makes them resonate yet is still subtle enough to land those one-tap offbeat fills while keeping that steady driving heavy beat on the kick drum. You almost think he's gonna explode with a flurry of beats and take over at "the wind will crack, in wintertime" but he doesn't. He holds back leaving me always wanting more.
This video (and album) are STILL so sick. Russell Mulcahy just TRULY captured the Duran Duran style so perfectly. I can see how an Aussie would know how to get that look right (and that's my opinion as a Yank. I've lived in Texas for 13 years and the song is about Rio Grande and their time in the U.S.

I still like the original live version better, for nostalgic reasons - your mix is really good though. The vox are a bit much in some parts, you perhaps could have adjusted them on the fly, or created a vocal stem and used a compressor, IDK. Anyway, good work, and cheers :)
