Well that’s because the sound recordings are of 4501 wearing 1401’s whistle. The story goes that the Smithsonian wanted to put the flat-top long bell 3 chime whistle from 1401 on Southern Railway 4501, which ran on a similar boiler pressure level to 1401. That way it would sound exactly like how it would on 1401.

Being a small railroad and all volunteer it might be a few decades until it is possible. I always try to support the WK&S as much as possible. I want my young son to have the same fond memories of this wonderful place

The Turbo in VIA livery (not VIA-CN , it would have had CN logo on nose) would indicate this was 1978 or 1979.. CN and CP had begun to publish combined schedules in 1977 under VIA monicker and CN started to use what would become the VIA livery (with VIA CN) on some of its cars =. But when VIA Rail Corp was created in 78, much of the CN rolloing stock was still in original black/white. (CP never changed livery during that period)

@@FireboxVault if you would like to shoot trains, a general rule of thumb is to make your way to Center Street yard in Hanover by 7 AM, if they aren’t there they have pushed east to Smiths and there will be a York Rail interchange that day. If they have cars on the main that usually means a quick switch at Center Street then the run over the mountain to Hagerstown.
