Ignition coil replacement - Moto Guzzi California 2

The right muffler of my 1986 Moto Guzzi California 2 suddenly started afterfiring and the muffler burned. It seems that the misfire was caused by a worn-out ignition coil. So I replaced it with a new ignition coil kit. The engine is running fine with the new coil.

      Thank you for your comment. My 650SS was imported directly from the UK and was equipped with two Amal Concentric 930. The basis for manufacturing in 1965 is the frame number. Based on your comment, I also researched the 650SS carburetor in books and on the Internet. The 650SS carburetor type and number listed in Roy Bacon's Norton Twins are 2 carbs Amal 376 from 1962 to 1966, 2 carbs 930 from 1967 to 1968. In addition to this, a model called 650 Standard with one carb 389 engine was also produced until 1963. Also, on the MCS homepage on the Internet, it appears that a model called Mercury was also manufactured from 1968 to 1970, which had the same engine as the 650SS but one concentric carburetor. It may be that the 930 used in the later model was attached to my 650SS manufactured in 1965, but the details are unknown. I changed to Amal Premier 930 at the time of restoration, and it runs smoothly without any special care other than left and right synchronization. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn about the 650SS carburetor.

      Thank you for your comment. I'm very interested in the loop frame Moto Guzzi, but it's currently expensive and difficult to obtain. Among various motorcycles, I like the unique engine characteristics of Moto Guzzi. I got my Cal 2 as a used moto and once had the TM and FM overhauled at a Moto Guzzi specialty store. After that, I deal with the problem myself. Recently, I had trouble with the ignition coil in my Le Mans 3, so I replaced it with a new one myself. As a result, it is currently running smoothly. However, Le Mans is too fast for me. I think Cal 2, with its heavier flywheel and smaller carb, suits me better. Just from my imagination, the Eldorado has a heavier flywheel, so wouldn't it run with more torque? I think it would be fun to ride in such Eldorado.

    • @vanveen8472
      @vanveen8472 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the Eldorado did have a heavy flywheel, they talk about the new guzzi's have loving to rev and I don't rember that, that said it was really a mile muncher long as you rode it right, it wasn't a sport bike even though it handled flawlessly, the brakes were its achilles heel, I never got in trouble with it unlike some of my other bikes because I learned early in out life together that they would assist you in stopping as long as you put enough foot in it, I treated that bike poorly for how good it was, incrdibly stable chassis@@classicmotorcycleriding3101

    Lovely bike - nice and light, plenty of power (16HP!) a real gentleman's ride. Good on you! I have a '64; can't wait for spring.

      Thank you for your comment. Living in a snowy country, I also can't wait for spring to come when I can ride a motorcycle again.

    Nice bike, good sound! Got a similar one with the same color, which is from the German Border Police (BGS, Bundesgrenzschutz); th-cam.com/video/FTDkZcHTuPU/w-d-xo.html Which country is this?

    Hey, I got a similar bike, same color! Ex-Bundesgrenzschutz. The low idle is nice, but please be aware that you might get low oil pressure and it will suck your battery dry.

      Thank you for your comment. My R27 was made in 1965, and I heard that this color was used by West German border guards as you say. As you pointed out, when riding on forest roads or rough roads, the engine speeds are low so can't expect a sufficient charge, but I usually ride at speeds of 80km/h or more, so I haven't had any battery-related problems. Thank you again.

    My buddy had a '76 Super Glide I had a '78 El Glide. We traded rides one time - 1st and only time I've ridden (and started) a Super Glide.

      Thanks for your comment. It's been a while since I last rode one, but it has a good exhaust sound.

      I might be wrong, but it seems like you ride the Norton faster than your other machines, :) @@classicmotorcycleriding3101

      This 650SS was stored at a different location from 2017 until October of this year for restoration. The reason it took longer than planned was due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now that I've finally been able to ride it, I've been mainly riding the Dominator these days. As you say, I think it's one of the nicest motorcycles I own. Thank you for always watching my videos.
