VidRecap 5 Feb22
This video explains the three bonus videos I have included in the Feb 2022 pack of lessons. I was fortunate enough to record some taiko with Luna Sound Stage for the rock band Hooker Hill. I was given permission to share some studio footage with this youtube channel.

Souma Feb22

Souma is a beat that is said to mimic running horses. I play it in different locations on the drum head to give the effect of horses running towards and away from the listener.
Playing around Feb22

More one-off footage of me going through different patterns and beats for the sound studio to test mics. Can you guess which songs I am playing?
Oroshi Feb22

This video is some footage of me at the sound studio cutting some percussion tracks for a rock band - because rockers love taiko too! This pattern I am playing is a riff on the traditional oroshi that is played typically at the start of a piece, like Odaiko.
Kiai 4 Feb22

This video outlines some common kiai, or vocal calls, used in taiko. I suggest practicing saying these from the hara to strengthen projection.
Hyoshigi 1 Feb22
มุมมอง 732 ปีที่แล้ว
This video describes ways to use the hyoshigi (wood blocks) as a great accompanying instrument with taiko.
Chappa 2 Feb22

This video reviews some basic chappa (hand cymbal) playing techniques and provides a Level 1-3 chappa drill to practice at home or with your group.
