Just watching this video 10 years later. WHat's funny is that I converted to Shambhala Buddhism back in 2012. And the way I shoot photographs is probably unintentionally aligned with this mindset. I feel like two of my worlds just collided.

I have been taking contempletive photos for years; just didn't have a name for them. The beauty and awe of the subject matter would stop me in my tracks and almost demand that their picture be taken...

Halifax, Nova Scotia! Thanks for a fine video which has inspired me to be more contemplative and observant on my landscape photo walks! 📷🇨🇦🙂

I just discovered this way of photographing. I always photographed this way. I just photograph things I see by surprise that inspire me and make me feel connected with the world . I am glad others see this way of seeing as moving too.

Way too much editing for real Miksang. But you have a good eye.

Is there really a ''that'' in real Miksang way? No according to the ''good eye'' way from the Miksang creator Chögyam Trungpa.

Morning - I am wondering what camera people prefer for ease of use . I realize the camera isn't the important aspect but want to purchase a new camera and hope to get some input. Thanks! Heather

Hi Heather. We really love the Sony RX100 and we both use Model 5. It is a pocket camera with the quality and features of a larger camera. Its size and lightness is perfect for taking along with you wherever you go. The newer models have absolutely excellent sensors.

Film is also very nice as you have to invest more focus on things that have otherwise been made automatic.

How about the 19. Century way like i Do. I carry my mobile darkbox with me and my 13x18 plate camera, For one picture I build anything up, prepare my chemistry, mounting my wooden camera, sowly focusing and take the shot for about 10 seconds. Develop it in the field and make contact prints with the Sun, so, at the and of the day I have a fine print, and never left my loved nature, no PC Screen even no darkroom except my darkroombox. Nothing bezween me and thefinished picture. If you ask me, with those basic techniques, you already Meditating, even if you create a normal Motive, and picture

Hi Heather. I did the Miksang course in Kyoto recently. It was a truly life changing experience. You are right. The camera is secondary in a way. We had cameras ranging from upper end Leicas to simple, but good, point and shoot cameras. The camera I suggest you use is one that is easy for you to get familiar with, so when you have a perception, the time it takes for you to caress that perception into a captured image is very short. The longer it takes, the more fiddling about, the more inclined you are to have your initial perception clouded by frustration. Or, if you aren't familiar with your camera, to record your perception accurately is more difficult. I struggled with my little camera at times, really because I didn't understand it properly. There is no shame in setting the camera to full auto. go forth and shoot! Roy
