I made a VST plugin inspired by the fifth generation of video game consoles. 32bit consoles like the Sega Saturn, and PlayStation 1, Dreamcast and even Nintendo 64 (which is technically not 32bit). GuyEngine brings the sounds of the 32bit gaming generation into the palm of your hands, and your DAW. Containing 128 completely original instrument patches inspired by the video games you love. I see, so it's like Super Audio Cart for the PS1?
I wouldn't presume to compare my product to another. GuyEngine is inspired by Nintendo 64, PS1, and Sega Saturn and contains 128+ instruments.
Awesome stuff. Is there a bundle download to buy the GuyEngine VST and all the expansion paks together?
So far there's only one paid expansion pack (and one free one), so there's no bundle yet - but that's definitely something I'll do in the future. I'm planning to put GuyEngine on sale for 33% off for the holidays, with a special bundle price for the plugin + the one paid expansion. Should hopefully go live today!
@ awesome thanks so much! Does the holiday sale still have the option to “pick your price”? I’d rather support your work for full price if possible, but still want to buy today if that makes sense.
@@dylanmacintosh Haha thank you, that's very kind! It may still let you pay full price, but I promise it's not necessary!
The Master Hand fight theme is so good omfg 😭😭😭🙏🙏
Y'know, I always liked the Smash 64 rendition of Kirby's Victory Theme, with Melee being my second favorite version. I just really like the feeling those two versions give off.
Never knew I needed this until it came up on my feed. Definitely gonna give the free version a whirl!
Let me know what you think!
For sure gonna cop this. TH-cam was awesome for randomly recommending me this video
Glad to hear it - I hope you like it!
Been loving your Soundfont packs but this is next level, congrats on a great release! I'll be checking out the free version and saving up some money to support you in the new year! On a side note, your packs are original sounds, right? Sound-alikes? I've been getting into soundfonts but have been skeptical about using them in original works, fearing automated takedowns in the future even though Toby Fox got away with it. The last thing I would want is to have my music finally make it into a game, only for it to get copyright struck. Guess I gotta get into synthesizing my own!!
Thank you! And yeah all of my soundfonts and this plugin are made up of 100% original samples, nothing ripped from games, romplers, sample packs or anything like that. Legally distinct and totally safe to use in anything commercial or otherwise.
What a cool guy
no u
megamind he did it gif
🧠
this might just be the first vst im ever gonna buy
that would be an honor for me!
Port this to MPC!
"Available in VST2, VST3, and AU" - so not just VST then, what you mean is a plug-in.
Plug-in is a broad term that can refer to many things beyond just digital music production. VST is immediately recognizable by those who know what it is. If I had said "a video game plugin" people may have thought I was talking about something for unity, or unreal engine, or any number of things. VST disambiguates that.
Pitch bend automatable?
Yes, but unfortunately locked at 2 semitones
Got any patches that sound like anything from the Mega Man X games? I always loved the Lead instruments in X4 in specific.
Re the leads, not yet. The drumkit, guitars, and basses all take heavy inspiration from Mega Man X4. The current selection of synth leads are more based on other games - but we could see a Mega Man X4+ inspired expansion in the future. I have my work cut out for me 😅
@@SoundFontGuy Looking forward to that! I love what you've created regardless! Been loving the sounds I've messed with lately.
@@dereksstupidmusicchannel Thank you! I hope to continue to impress!
Release Lobby as a song/project, and I'll buy this instrument immediately!! 🙏🙏🙏

@@michaelheath1194 haha honestly I respect that! thanks very much for your support!
this is everything I've wanted and more. Great work
Thanks!
Thanks Guy!
My pleasure!
I have an incredibly basic question as someone who is FINALLY trying to take the jump into music production and has 0 knowledge or background. Is this a standalone program or is it a plugin to an existing DAW (a term I just found out about a couple days ago lol). In any case this looks amazing!
Congratulations on starting music production! Yes this is a plugin, not a standalone. Should work with just about any daw!
You're so fuckign awesome dude
Thank you 🙏
I miss my wife
She's coming back
any plans to make the gui scaleable????
I'm looking into it, but it might be a while yet
Can't get it to open
Which part? the zip, or the plugin? Can you give some more detail?
@@SoundFontGuy thanks for the reply. In all honesty, I'm not the most computer-literate of people. I saw the download came with installation directions, but I couldn't really make sense of them. Can you walk me through the installation process for mac?
@jibberish00 yes I'd be happy to. Do you have discord? Or maybe email? It would be easier to explain there rather than a TH-cam comment
I ran afoul of Nintendo about 10 years ago when I made a massive SNES soundfont pack for Omnisphere. That experience was certainly a crash course in copyright law!
Yikes... I'd love to hear more about that!
hell yea def getting this when the xmas money hits :)

@SoundFontGuy no prob. Bought it. Happy to support. Excited to try it out!
@@DissonantSynth Thanks! I hope you enjoy it, and please let me know if you run into any issues!
Might have to pick this up 👀
I need this. If I don’t get this, I will die.
Your well-being is very important to me.
Will future expansions cost money or will they be included like updates? Is this essentially a soundfont loader/sampler, or is there also a synth engine behind it? If there is a synth engine is there a way to edit patches? Can the sample libraries from the presets be accessed to use for other purposes?
Great questions! 1. Expansions are a bit of both. Owners of GuyEngine will get a free selection of instruments from every paid expansion as an optional add-on. They'll also receive content updates and additions that are exclusive to the paid version of GuyEngine, but not part of any expansion. So if you have the full version of GuyEngine, your library will steadily grow without ever having to spend another penny - unless you want to. 2. This is a rompler, not a soundfont loader. It's not compatible with soundfonts and doesn't contain any data from any existing soundfonts (except for some samples from soundfonts that I created myself from scratch). There is an engine in there, and it's very simple. Essentially just PCM, LFO, and ADSR with some FX. 3. Individual patches can be edited in the ways mentioned above, LFO, ADSR, FX, etc. I have plans for multitimbrality in the future, but it's quite an undertaking so it is a little ways off. 4. The sample libraries are in a proprietary format and can't be extracted directly, but you are free to sample them and use them for virtually any purpose, with the exception of redistribution sans sufficient transformation. All of the samples contained in GuyEngine and all of its expansions are 100% original. Nothing is ripped from any existing games or anything like that - they were all hand-crafted for this plugin. There is a free version of the plugin, so you can always try it out and see if it feels right for you! I'm also always happy to answer more questions either here, via email, on discord, itch, or ko-fi, patreon. I'm everywhere!
Awesome plugin dude
Thank you!
As an audio engineer in study who wishes to make songs with sounds inspired by that of retro games, this comes at a perfect time for me to grant me some new tools for creativity!
Excellent! Can't wait to hear what you make!
Bought. Great to have a general collection that gets straight to the vibe. Plugging Einhänder OST as an idea for epic pads, drums, and synths in an atmospheric techno/rock/fusion context. For the UI, maybe the knob fill graphics could be thicker or brighter on the reverb and delay sections- they're hard to see on my screen.
Hey thanks for the kind words and for the feedback. I'll look into the the knobs for the next update - gotta prioritize user friendliness. Also einhänder is a classic! Would definitely benefit from having an expansion inspired by that.
this is so cool!!! i find it a bit cumbersome to go through soundfonts myself so having an all-in-one vst like this is really cool
Thanks!! I'm so glad you like it!
Hopefully we get a virtua fighter sound setting in the future 😅
👀 these comments are fuel
@SoundFontGuy yeah I Gan grant you some ideas here. Most gamers and devs like me like og era stuff from 80-2000s so for use that would be bigbeat, techno, jungle, sounds from the sound canvas, Alexis q, Korg triton, and sound instrument stuff from games like virtua fighter, Pokémon, ff7, megaman zero, megaman x, chrono trigger, metroid, naruto ultimate ninja storm and many classic early to mid era games. There's a sound resource as well for video game composers you can look up. They have a huge list of sounds composers used from video games from classics to modern. The list is a Google doc and let me know if you need the link to it.
Vandal Hearts I and II, Mega Man: Battle & Chase and Guardian's Crusade.
You couldn't be more right
just made smth w this gonna use it for a long time i can already tell will be buying everything soon this is exactly what i needed n more
Can't wait to hear it!
this is so great. as far as future expansions go, the ps2 ambient/jungle era music…oh man…can’t wait for presets like that. but take your time!!! you’ve clearly worked hard on this!
Thank you for the kind words! The PS2 era jungle/ambient stuff is unmatched. I also can't wait to get to it 😂
Very interesting project, and a good way to make these retro soundtracks without being dependent on proprietary software from the big companies!
Thank you, I'm glad you think so!
wow! a dream plugin for sure. will purchase very soon!
I hope you enjoy it! There's a free version in case you can't afford the big one!
Fuckkkkk yeah
WHOA this is awesome gonna buy
<3
Looking forward to having some fun with this, good work!
Thank you very much! Can't wait to hear what you make!
Ngl bro, ur gonna have to make an instillation video for Mac and Windows bc i just purchased but i don’t even know what’s going on 😂😂
There's install instructions in the archive!
@@SoundFontGuy you got it bro, just keep the 15.. learned my lesson w this underground shit💀
@@Quis11 That was meant to be helpful. I'm sorry to hear that you've decided not to get it. Thanks very much for your interest!
@@Quis11 If you reach out to me on discord or email or something, I'd be happy to help you get it installed
it's like ears are hearing it in HD for the first time
This looks awesome! Way better than trying to deal with those old soundfonts and I dig the skin design
Thanks! 🙏
Ooh we haven’t heard the Chrono Cross inspired demo yet! Would you ever put your demos up on Bandcamp?
Can’t wait to take it for a spin! I take it this plugin is PSX focused? Any plans for 8 and 16 bit sound chips in the future?
It's mainly focused on PSX, N64 and Sega Saturn in terms of the general "vibe" of the sounds. I would love to do 16bit stuff! I have a million and one ideas but it can be challenging with limited time haha. There are already so many fantastic soundtracks on the three platforms that I mentioned - all of which I'd love to make reminiscent expansions of. I started work on an SNES inspired GM library but it's on the backburner for the moment while I chip away at some more content for GuyEngine.
