Are Four Loaves Better Than One? Watercolor Still Life Tutorial
My student, Deb, along with her son, Bryan, recently opened Golden Grain Artisanal Bread in Princeton, Massachusetts. On multiple occasions I have sampled all of their loaves from the focaccia to the sour dough. They are all amazing! This beautiful photo of their bread is the subject of my watercolor video.
I must admit that four loaves painted in under two hours was a little bit of a challenge. And of course, it was my first time painting this particular subject, but I'm really happy with the result!
To learn more about Golden Grain Artisanal Bread, check out their site at www.goldengrainbread.com
My videos are a supplement to my in person classes at the New England School of Fine Art. I welcome all levels of students from beginner to advanced painters. Also, check out my work at www.joellenreinhardt.com or art classes at www.nesfa-worcester.com/art-classes.html
As always,
Thank you for watching and happy painting!

Painting Fall Flowers and Glass in Watercolor
มุมมอง 1.2K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Watercolor of Black-eyed Susan Flowers My watercolor of Black-eyed Susan flowers is perfect for a Fall study! I love the yellow flowers with their dark cone center. For me, painting glass is so much fun! It's much easier than it looks. I decided to not use any masking fluid. I tend to use quite a bit and I thought for a change it would be nice to just paint around the light areas. Typically I g...

Capturing Light in Watercolor - Colorful Doorway in Mexico
มุมมอง 3436 หลายเดือนก่อน
Capturing light in a watercolor requires some patience. Base colors and textures need to be painted in first. Textures are created through dry brush or sponging. The watercolor painting transforms into a magical and 3 dimensional image once the shadows are added at the end. Happy painting! Architectural Watercolor of Vatican City Using a Limited Palette
มุมมอง 6419 หลายเดือนก่อน
Painting a city scape or architecture can be a bit overwhelming and down right scary. When drawing or painting a scene try to simplify it as much as possible. In this video demonstration I try to focus on some of the main elements of the scene such as the dome of St. Peter's and the bridge including the arches. By limiting my palette to three colors not only do I simplify my color choices but I...

You made it so easy, thanks
Love this winter landscape scene. The way the red barn contrasts with the snow and muted shades of brown and gray. You captured it beautifully Jo Ellen. What an adorable assistant 💜
Beautiful!
👍
Absolutely stunning, when you do your background did you cover your flower with drawing gum
Excellent!
Oh my! This looks like a challenge x 4. The white qouache (wow, 3 vowels in a row) is really stunning! See you soon!
Hi everyone, I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Please give me a thumbs up and feel free to comment. Thanks!

Jo can I ask why use 3 different makes of pencil and is the fable castrell a 4b ?
Hi Michael, I have a variety of pencil brands at hand and ready to go. I don't have one brand that I strongly prefer. Faber-Castel, Koh-i-noor, Staedtler, Turquoise, and Kimberley are what I have on-hand at my studio. I do like the Turquoise for their rich darks and the others seem to suit my needs for a light silvery touch. In classical art school I was not given one brand to use. Through my many years of teaching I have found that Artist's Loft is very inferior and I would not recommend it. However, I am settled in my ways, but always appreciate another artist's opinion or advice. Is there a brand you prefer?
@@newenglandschooloffineart hi, yes I’ve only just started drawing again since I left school and that was a long long time ago I’ve tried a few but the fable castell 9000 are my favourites and I use the Pitt graphite Matt (faber castell) when I need to go darker.
Nice art man ❤❤🎉!
Great video!
Could you list paints used❤
I don’t have those paints anymore, but I’ve listed the paints in my last two videos!
Absolutely stunning ❤
Although the music is nice, this tutorial would be oh so much more helpful if you could narrate what you’re doing, what colors you are using, etc.
Thank you for your comment. I will keep that in mind for future videos. Sometimes when filming there are noises out of my control (Flamenco Dance troupe upstairs)...only kidding but a bit noisy. I'll see what I can do!
Beautiful! 💜 Can I order several of the same from you? Would like to buy.
Thank you! We are currently working on a site for sales. I will keep you posted! :)
❤what a beautiful window..... this reminds me of windows in my country Belgium 😊 it is so pretty those old windows with the nice lase curtains flowerpots ore vases! It's like looking in peoples faces and finding something beautiful ! Thank you for sharing your Art with us ❤❤❤
Anytime!
It’s such a delight to watch you painting ….the best teacher ever! Thank you 💖
My pleasure 😊
👍 Great !
Thanks!
Very nice! I might have to give it a try! Thanks!!
Awesome!
Amazing work but now I’m dizzy due to the speed of the video. I’m afraid it’s too fast for my liking. Thanks for sharing!!!
You can adjust the speed on TH-cam. Go to top right corner, look for a gear symbol, playback speed can be slowed down. This helps to see the steps. Hope this helps 😊
Just uploaded a much slower one!
@@newenglandschooloffineart Thank You So Very Much, I Appreciate You!!!
It is so relaxing to watch you create. So amazing! Appreciate your instructions whether it is on You Tube, live, and one on one in class!
Thanks Donna! Looking forward to seeing you!
I like the way you used the credit card to create grass.
The mushroom looks so real. Nice job!
I think I will watch this one over and over again, there are so many details which I usually miss when I draw. I totally give up painting because color poisons learning fundamentals. thousand thanks , does using divider as tool for measurement is ok. i use it all the time. I measure with eye then check size with divider. Please post more drawing.
Anything that works for you! I just put all my drawing videos in a playlist, go check it out
Is it okay if we go from a dark color to a light color in the bath?
Very very great !!!
Great !!
👍
Looks like fun! Do you ever provide a line drawing for download, or perhaps a reference sketch? Thanks for the demo!
❤️👏👏👏❤️
Wonderful tutorial. One question: Your materials list calls for Burnt Umber but in the class you say use Raw Umber. Does it matter if I use the Burnt rather than the Raw?
I would use either burnt umber or sepia. Raw umber will be too light. My apologies if I misspoke.
Lovely!
Thank you!
Such a peaceful painting!
Thanks Sherry!
Will there be a longer version?
I haven't uploaded a longer version of this video, but if you like slower pacing you should check out my latest upload!
I can't imagine how easy this will be to paint now that I have watched the magic brush! Bravo
Thanks, Aggie!
Beautiful
Thanks Ellen!
Thanks for sharing... Great to watch and learn from your technique!
Thanks for watching!
Delicious! 🙂😋😊
As a beginner , I learned several techniques on this. Thanks!
Great to hear!
🙏☀️💜💜
it is beautiful. - how do you mask the lighter areas? is it color that you are using?
Masking fluid or drawing gum comes either clear or colored. There are pros and cons to both. The masking I use is Pebeo. It's fairly fluid. I like it because of its tint since it shows up better than something clear. I prefer applying it with a brush. However, You need to pretreat your brush with a solution of water, a little dish soap and a little ammonia, otherwise you will gum up and ruin your brush. Hope this helps!
