Hi bro, I really liked your story. I'm a second generation viet, boring in the US, 29M so I can relate to most of your story. You said that your goal is to buy a house for mom, which is quite noble. We are recently paid off our house early after a 20 year mortgage. Which is great, but the cost of living on California is still high. So our family considered downsizing and moving somewhere like Texas. Have you considered that? Also, a lot of viet kiểu I've seen online have the urge to move back to Vietnam, either to get married, start business, work remotely. As a first gen immigrant, have you visited vietnam again recently, what's the different from the US vs VN back the or now? Did your view on the American dream change? But I get the feeling that a lot of people in VN still want to move to the US, for economic, political or religious freedoms. I visited VN last year for the first time and just came back a month ago. I think VN is trying to develop fast, but still at least 15-30 years away from being closer to China, Singapore or south Korea, which the Vietnamese desperately wants to emulate and be like.
I'm a second Gen viet, but not fluent. At what age did you move to the US? I can tell you still have a smidge of that Vietnamese accent. My parents come from a poor state and they have pretty bad financial sense. Investing in horrible businesses in Vietnam, don't believing in banks or investing. But I don't blame them too much since they never finished elementary school and barely know to speak conversational English. They always say to make a lot of money when you grow up, but give zero guidance how to do it. Also all my family are pro trump maga supporters, guess why.
Pretty good advice. Asides from paying with cash, if you get a zero apr deal, for 36,48,60 months that is good. But most of these deals on are cars that are not that great, besides some mazda models. Currently looking to get a 2025 camry le
can't go wrong with most Toyotas. I'm looking at getting a 2014 camry se with 45k. good luck!
amazing advice, shopping around for insurance is a MUST!
Lots of good advice for younger people here. However, when you have some wealth, a low interest loan may be preferable than paying cash. Ex. Buy a car with a 3% loan, invest the purchase amount in a 5% CD, you keep the spread. Only do this if you're disciplined and can get very low rates!

@@mustasheolll2020 Building wealth, for most people, takes time, effort and smart decision making. Compounding is your friend. Strangely now that we can afford to buy better vehicles I have no desire to do so but not having to get up and go to work is golden imo.
I've been trying to get a new job so badly but no one wants to hire me because hiring managers are just so selfish that they can't even just care about a person's feelings like why can't this world just care about our feelings? Well too bad, real life is bullshit, I don't care if it's good or not to hate real life, I have many reasons why I hate real life. Well we all do sometimes. Especially, I also cried about it too because my job makes me nervous, I can't leave fast food because of the stupid managers. I'm tired of my mental health hurting me at my job. Like I just want a new job😭
Since being laid off 7 months ago, I've applied to 600 jobs and been to 50 interviews. I can't even land a minimum wage job. I was rejected by Walmart because I don't have any retail experience.
Greek here. I've been looking for a job since September 2023. So, over a year now. I can't do this anymore. Non stop scam/ghost jobs. My soul is crushed and hope has betrayed me one too many times.
Jobs today is about who you know, not your credentials. You need yo reach out to someone that can get you in. That's the only way to get a job today. What's your degree in? I maybe able to get you a job.
covid 20 🤣
Well I trump that. Try over 8 months now. Being laid off from a union job my dreams job, and being told things would pick soon for 5 months and the past 3-1/2 months trying to find non union work is Hell. Still looking and applying. I have had moments were I felt like I was losing my mind just so confused and lost like what happened to me. Anxiety attacks so bad I struggled to breath for awhile thought I had to go into the ER because thats not a normal thing for me to have. But man I hate to say I am relived partially to hear it's not me it's these companies and the economy still screwing things up for us unemployed.
🤣🤣😂 what a joker. Just get a 90's car. You know nothing about Finance and cars. The Tesla Model 3 is nearly the only car that doesn't set you back to financial ruin. I owned 3 cars and now I only have 2. Selling your car means you take a huge depreciation LOSS.
Id fire you just cuz you talk too much. This vlog could easily be umder 5 min.
"if you can't afford to pay cash for it, you can't afford to drive it"!
"Don't go broke trying to look rich"!
my g u dont know what u talking about lmaoooo its more expensive to maintain a gas car the battery is under warranty for 10 years or 120k miles im on my 2nd tesla cuz they so good and cheap to maintain
Bro can’t afford a 258 payment, like mf that’s working for minimum wage for less than 20h per month, bro better be on that glizzy and ramen diet trying to recoup the depreciation 🤦♂️
You earning through yt? .... Hang in there focus on learning more and sharpen your skills.
With this kind of mindset you will always be on the same level forever…..please don’t have kids, because responsibilities should motivate you to want to do more and be better than you were yesterday
but tesla have a 8 year warranty on batteries so it would be replaced for free.
Gone 🫰Gone 🫰Gone 🫰
fun fact: the average age of a Tesla owner is 48 years old and a household income of 100-150k. On another note, Tesla batteries are built to outlast the car's life. So if your car is already over 10 years old, which is highly unlikely, you should worry about it. By then, I also think that the prices of the batteries will fall, as battery technologies get cheaper and manufacturing processes get more efficient.
Solid advice. Sell your time for money. Use your money as a tool to make more money. Get your freedom. Or, trade your time for depreciating assets. Never gain freedom.
tough decision to make after already eating the depreciation of the vehicle. but if you look at it that you have already lost the money and dont need the car, then it kinda makes sense. Auto loans are a bit of a scam. you own a car you want, but cant really afford. especailly with insurance costs on Teslas atm. If you can get them at 0% its hard to argue against keeping the car, but 7% each year on the loan is the problem. Were there any early repayment fees? Bought my first car 10 years ago, new but pretty much the cheapest i could buy. just bought myself a tesla now that i can afford it. I was driving round in a £500 car despite earning 100k. never really bothered me. had the 60k for a M3P put to one side, and got it at 0% finance, so can invest the capital i would have put into th car and own fully in 5 years with no worry. Its smart to clear this debt even if it does mean you lost a bunch of money in the proccess. those car payments turn into savings each month which you can invest in your future. come back to Tesla in 10 years and treat yourself even if you can afford it in 5.
should always buy things with cash (car, small house/property, fees for university entry & competing a degree) and not take out loans. it will motivate you to look for big-opportunities to make a big amount of money (profit) in a very short time. Rather than going to a 830am 530pm Mon Fri job just to pay monthly loan due debts
Some people get it, you do. Congrats on waking up. You will be very wealthy with this mentality at such a young age. Some people are 65 years old and are still brokies.
@billyboi816 Sounds like your issue was buying a car, not buying a Tesla. There are stages in our life where driving an old beater or using public transportation is appropriate. But putting Tesla in the thumbnail WILL get you more click bait. If you did ANY real research on the battery you would find failure is a very low probability. 300000-500000 mile average lifespan. With research you would also find low mile used batteries on EBAY for $2500-$3500. Why so cheap? Because almost no one needs them. Supply and demand. Car gets wrecked and you think you can recover $10k by selling the $16k battery....sorry, no real demand. They just rarely fail. Finally, when it is time to purchase a decent car, a Tesla model 3 will have a lower cost of ownership than even a Toyota Corolla. Many have done this math. Many cities are trying to make model 3s Cop Cars because of the incredible operating cost savings and lower failure rate compared to ICE cars. Cities finding they can purchase and operate 10% more cars with the savings. It really is a bit small for patrol car use case, but the financial savings are so great they are working to make it work. Just more information for your financial freedom calculator. Bonus: My dad was a CPA. Executive for a large corporation. His philosophy. Aquire a payed for car. What you can afford. Make a car payment every month into a car account. Every seven years or so he would trade in his car(he knew trading meant taking a hit but to him it was worth it). He could then stroke a check for the rest of a new car. But the car payments didn't stop. Kept depositing every month into car account. At three years car was out of warranty but he already had a fat car account. Need an alternator, radiator, or brakes? He wasn't scrambling to find the money. It was in the account. At 7 years he had enough to buy a car. He recieved interest instead of paying it. To take that one step farther, when your credit score is 800 and you qualify for some Zero% financing, take it. You still have an account that can pay off car at any time. But you also have an account that can compound interest for you on the money you got at zero%.
Good on you
Good realization
Great move. Never have a car payment. Pay cash from now on.
Everyone has to pay (in one way or another) to learn a lesson. Some pay more, some pay less. Paying for it financially, especially at a young age, is probably the best way to learn.
I agree and I’m grateful for this early lesson
I think Dave Ramsey calls it stupid tax lol
Soooo, you bought a new car, took the biggest part of the depreciation hit you could and then sold it. Justifying this by saying you dont have enough money to replace a battery that will be under warranty for 8 years... Please don't give any financial advice to anyone.
Yes, I am well aware that I’ve made a severe financial mistake and I plan to embrace and improve from here. And no, for me it would’ve been 2-3 years bc I drove 40k miles with the Tesla last year. I was and still am well aware that what I’ve done with the Tesla wasn’t very financially intelligent, which is why I’ve never advised anyone to do the same on this channel, so thank you for your suggestion, but I will continue to give research based financial advice. Have a nice day!
This is what i was thinking tesla batteries are under warranty for 10 years i believe. Electricity is cheap maintenance is next to none other than not wanting to have a loan ( even gas cars wud have a loan unless u have money to pay out of pocket) I don’t see what was the point .
holy shit… finally.
Cant you get a used Model 3 for like 20k? Electric would save you fuel prices and as long as the car is many miles below 100k the battery on it would have warranty. I feel like buying a cheap gas car would somehow waste more money especially if your determined to keep it for more than 5 years.
I don’t have 20k and I strongly do not want to get into another car debt for like forever, so I’ll see what happens for now.
How's your job search coming along?
I’ve done so many interviews last week, I will be giving an update soon!
so Question, why did u buy a tesla or a new car to begin with if u already know that u cannot afford it? ? because its cool??? lol.. and even included your mom to finance it..? wow...... so peeps,, if you cannot afford it.. dont be FOMO.....! can a used honda civic or a nissan sentra... worth 10 thousand suffice until u get a better job?
I think he learned his lesson on that!! Good for him, because I didn't learn it until I was 30 yrs old. He is way ahead!!
@Teknoman972 I hope things are better for you financially now! I wish you the best!
There are lots of bad things out there that could happen to you, bad, but extremely unlikely. But you can't run your life like that or you'll never leave the house. EV battery failure outside of warranty is one of those bad, but very unlikely things that could happen, especially with the newer LFP batteries. If you need a car, then bad things can happen to any car. But if you don't need a car, or can get by without one, then you shouldn't have bought a car in the first place, especially if mony is tight.
That’s true but I don’t want the extremely unlikely bad thing to be my financial demise, I would prefer to get rid of the problem completely now because I want to be financially secured and build up an emergency fund asap!
@@Tom-dt4ic apperantly he drives 40,000 miles a year... So he does need a car.
@@kleitosaliagas5668 All the more reason to get an EV. If you want to have more money ten years, and you drive a lot, then an EV is far cheaper to own and operate than an ICE car. Cheaper by many thousands of dollars. Don't forget, ICE cars break down too and need expensive repairs -- like all the time! Just ask anyone who's owned one for while. And fun fact: EV's break down far less often because they have far fewer moving parts. So you save money on both maintenance and fuel! And if the anti-EV disinformation machine has scared you disproportionally to the danger of battery failure, and it sounds like it has, then get an EV still under warranty. This isn't hard.
@@Tom-dt4ic Yup. Non of his decision actually make any financial sense.
Saying Tesla battery breaks is like saying head gasket breaks and coolant suddenly gets into your engine and causes catastrophic dmg. It will unlikely to happen for at least over 12 years.
But that tiny chance could = my financial demise so for me personally, I’m good
@@billyboi816 No, you are not good. You could have break down issues with any type of car, especially gas based engine. You took a car (tesla model 3) with low maintenance, low fuel cost, owned it for a >1 year where the highest rate of depreciation occurs and then sold it. You have made a terrible financial decision.
good job 👍
Finally I’ve said this so many times 👍😆
Glad you wised up cuz being in debt for a Tesla of all things is the stupidest decision ever.
That is freaking awesome. No broke college student should be driving a Tesla. You are on your way to wealth kid.
