[SW] 15310 kHz - Bible Voice Broadcasting, Nauen - end of Tigrinya broadcast, Dec 5 2024
With certain names' demise, Bible Voice Broadcasting became one of the largest remaining SW broadcasters, and the largest client of Media Broadcast GmbH!
And this despite a rather convoluted schedule on most frequencies they use. This one, 15310 kHz, carries BVB broadcasts in Tigrinya, Oromo, Somali and Amharic to Horn of Africa, with UTC times as follows:
16:00-16:30 on Mondays,
16:00-17:30 on Tuesdays,
17:00-17:30 on Wednesdays,
16:00-16:30 and 17:00-17:30 on Thursdays,
16:00-16:30 on Fridays,
16:30-17:30 on Saturdays,
16:00-17:30 on Sundays.
This just makes it trickier to find them on a blind bandscan.
What do you think of such operating practice of Bible Voice Broadcasting? Is it efficient? Is it effective? And... what about the future of Nauen, as the majority of services they're left with are not aired on a daily basis!
Received at 16:27 UTC December 5th, 2024 in NE Poland using Airspy HF+ Discovery & 1m dia. YouLoop antenna.

I recorded this broadcast particularly to see how North Korea reacted to their walled-off "enemies'" martial law shenanigans. Were they ROTFLing? 🤣 Well, I had to wait for quite a while, as the commentary on South Korea's 6-hour martial law was actually the LAST item of VOK "news" far behind a report on students' visit to an old anti-battery site, telling about "happy life" of people with disab...

This recording is of part of a daily 1-hour transmission of KBS World Radio in Korean beamed to the Middle East, at 09:00 UTC on 15160 kHz. I've been hearing it regularly in Central Europe, a couple degrees in azimuth off-target, but admittedly, never this strong. Others may find it troublesome to follow the broadcast as Ifrikya FM also uses this frequency, from Algeria towards Africa. Also, I'...

Just watching this video now Arnie. It seems as if everything is back to normal again, for now 🙂 For the past couple of weeks I have heard Yemen Radio clearly, with good modulation also.
Same :) They are a bit off-frequency though. Not that I monitored it but back in A24 they clashed with a CRI russian transmission at 12:00 or 13:00 UTC, and there was a lot of buzz & distortion in the mix on the TEF6686.
@@ArnieDXer And now the Vatican Radio clash at certain times... Yemen Radio seems to have bad luck all the time 🤣
If you're wondering, the ultimate switch-off happened at 15:00:35 UTC, same timer local, or 1:30:58 in this stream. There are no more UK stations active on 1152; what LBC News' shutdown has uncovered is Radio Romania Actualitati from Cluj-Napoca/Jucu (400kW day/200kW night).

I had no idea that even NHK has been using AI for their broadcasts. No wonder the announcers sound rather wooden-like when they "speak"! 🙂
@@StratmanII they've already been doing frequency announcements with AI since early this year 😜 And there is more to come: there is a blog focusing on Taiwan & shortwave, and it featured a story of an NHK Chinese newscast in which an announcer had gone off-script & ranted that some islands he just read an item about are Chinese 😆 There were some managerial resignations at NHK World as a result of the incident, and NHK is seriously considering using AI "newsreaders" to prevent such incidents in the future. Beautiful countryside there. What battery do nu you use? My DX286 is coming today and i wonder if the Xstar 4000 mAh 18650 battery will fit. 69.6 mm length. Also probably the radio cab be moded to take 3 x AA batteries.
@@safugpac2691 thank you 😃 I have no idea about modifying the DX-286. I got mine with two batteries shipped (there are now offers for this package on Amazon US & Aliexpress globally), and mine are 3350mAh, unbranded. Admittedly, they're pretty long, clearly larger than a typical AA battery 😅 If you're going to use your own battery, ensure it's button-top. Eventually I suppose you could build your own powerbank using the set of batteries you like.

They need to return back to shortwave
That reminds me, I've not taken out my AirSpy HF+ Discovery for several months that I'm slowly forgetting how to use its software. 🙂 I don't know why, but I still prefer traditional receivers for general DX'ing, although SDRs like the HF+ Discovery can analyze signals much better. Even if I'm using the AirSpy, I prefer plugging it into my 10.1" Android tablet than using the laptop.
Using the SDR portable either with my laptop or something new is on a list of things I'd like to try sooner or later 😼 I have an Airspy YouLoop, and in fact, I was positively surprised by how well it couples with my TEF6686, and I'm also looking for options for a small terminated loop that would be, well, small enough to easily rotate it, and still have enough gain even for LW, where it is most difficult to make a gainy antenna.
@@ArnieDXer Speaking of the YouLoop antenna, recently I watched a review of the new, active version of it on the Fred In The Shed channel. Fred says that the Deshibo GA-800 was the best indoor loop antenna that he's ever tried, followed by the much cheaper GA-450 model. I'm not sure which one to buy, but I remember that the passive YouLoop antenna is best used with High Definition Receivers like the AirSpy HF+ Discovery or the SDRPlay SDRuno. If that's the case, then the very definition of an HD receiver is one that provides crystal clear audio and enhanced signal processing capabilities, e.g. Sangean ATS-909X, C Crane CC Skywave, Tecsun H-501x, PL-990x, Malachite SDRs as well as the ATS-25 Max Decoder/Amp radios. 🙂 BTW, I use SDR++ for my Android tablet. The software is not only free but is undergoing constant development. The last time I checked, it still doesn't have proper noise canceling features that the desktop version, or SDR# for that matter. LW is virtually useless in Southeast Asia. It used to be populated by NDBs from the nearest airport but I don't think the Sultan Abd Aziz Shah (SZB) airport uses long wave NDBs anymore. 🤔
