Brook's Montana Stone- Norvise

This fly is one of Tim Flagler's from Tightline Productions. He combined the Bird's Nest and a Whitlock's Red Squirrel Nymph, and dubbed it the Flying Squirrel. Both of the original patterns fish really well here, but we sure have fallen in love with the Flying Squirrel in various sizes and colors. Join us this week as Brian ties the first in a series of 3 flies. First up is the Cal Bird's Bird Nest (slight variation)- this will be followed with Dave Whitlock's Red Squirrel Nymph, and end with Tim Flagler's Flying Squirrel- a pattern that combines the two, and is crazy effective on our local waters and very adaptable to suit your location and aquatic activity! Beer Can Blue Carey Special Variation
มุมมอง 1648 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a Carey Special variation using some of my favorite materials. We were fishing Omak Lake on the Colville Indian Reservation when I first tested this pattern out. The Lahontans in there loved it! It was the fly of the trip for sure! I've tied a few more variations to try this Spring on our yearly trip. I've since fished it in some of our local lakes and rivers with good success. Give it ...

Wow you can tell you have tied hundreds of those.
I’m gonna tie some of these up with a few modifications. Slightly shorter tail, lighter color body to better match local caddis. Tan hackle, 10/0 Veevus, and I’m thinking a little stub of tan colored foam hidden in that wing to make it more buoyant.
Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed it
Glad everyone enjoyed the video and liked the fly
Thanks for the video 🎉
Nice 🎉 Tie ….. Will twist a few up for my box !!!! 🌟🎣💫
Such a great fly, nice job
Nice tie fly and commentary thanks
The dreaded thread break.
Great fly! Love the save!!!
Great video!
Thank You sir
Great tying again Britt!
Nice one!!
Great tye Britt.Theres not many trout around me, but Zi think the bluegill would eat that.
Great fly as always Brian!
That’s a Beaut Britt 🎉 …. Right On 👍🏻 🌟🎣💫

Great looking fly pattern Brian!! ❤
Thank you so glad you liked it
Great fly Brian!
Thank you so much
This is one bad ass pattern!!!!
Thanks so glad you enjoyed it
Another great video!!! And you said Hackle LOL
Great Tutorial Brian!! Thank you for sharing
Nicely done. Thank you
Well done! Great fly guys!
I presume you are showing the traditional method of applying dubbing for the benefit non Norvise tyers?
Yes you are correct
The finished product does not resemble the picture
Literally took it out of the vise and put it in the light box for the photo so yea… it’s the same fly.
Well done as always!
One of my favorite patterns
I am the originator of this pattern. While I used to work for Parks' Fly Shop, I am no longer affiliated with them. No, it was not a friendly parting. I am now the owner of Yellowstone Country Fly Fishing in Livingston. I suggest making the wing much heavier to hold more air/flotant and using a shorter hackle.
Great way to start my day! Great video as always!
Haklfback? No hackle? Hmmm th-cam.com/video/e_nd39K5IP0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=DjdZNt2hIO3wKGuF th-cam.com/video/9VgfMDkrAfs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RfVULN_ymVUKhFIO
Confused by your comment. There are any number of versions of a halfback (like so many patterns out there). This is the one we prefer. If you prefer others, good on ya. 👍🏼 ~ Britt

Agreed, what you tie is not a Halfback.@@hacklesandherlflyfishing
@@waynegraff3942 well, opinions are like assholes 👍🏼
And yours smells the worst!@sandherlflyfishing
I've caught many nice BC fish on that fly , how e7er it doesn't last long but a killer pattern...🍀
Great looking fly. Thank you for sharing it with us. Ironically avid max did a video a few months ago of this pattern, and somebody mentioned to them that it looked like the fly Brian Chan does. They did their body with the dubbing, as have I, but i like the look of using the straggle string. I'll have to tie some up using that as well. Will you and your husband be at the Wasatch fly expo next month in utah? I met you there last year and had a great time chatting with you at it.
Hey Chris! Awesome to hear from ya. That’s funny. Since it is one on Brian Chans flies. 🤦🏼♀️ peacock is good for the body too! Unfortunately we won’t be at the Wasatch show this year. Only going to Albany OR and Bellevue WA. Saving up some vacay for some extended fishing trips. Have a great time if you go! ~Britt
Nice job
I've tied this fly a number of different ways but I learned some new techniques today.
Love how you find these patterns in the local paper.
We were super fortunate to have such a local resource. The tribune ran a weekly fly article from Leroy for years, and he did a program on Idaho PBS called the anglers art.
Thanks. ….. that’s a Dandy 🎉 🌟🎣💫
Thank You 🎉 BRITT …… that’s a Beaut EH , pattern to be sure 👍🏻 Happy New Year and Great Health !!!! Brian ✨🎣💫
Nice job
Beautiful fly!
Great pattern invented by Eric Athe of Colo Springs, works great. Top pattern by a top man !!
Thank You for the information on the creator of this fly I appreciate it
as i was saying my brother and dad were into 'trout unlimited 'and the 'greater lowell fly fisherman' in massachusetts.
my brother david would have liked watching this, he was really into it with all the special tools and bird pelts. he and my dad were real avid fly fisherman, it was a way of life and hobby for them but they're gone now. i still have some of their flies and fishing poles but i'm just a hack fair weather type angler. thnx for the show.
Like the camera transition
very nice Kudos
Cool way of doing that pattern
Thanks Randy Chappell
I have some work to do, got tons that need to be cleaned and lubed, thank you ,such a simple detail
Nice tip. The metal ones they sell in my opinion do more harm than good. I was using monofilament, but that missed alot.
Right! These little things work perfect.
I've used the old school theater for a year now. I'm beginning to understand why I'm breaking my thread so much. Thanks for the tip.
Glad to help!
