In this Adventure with Bernie I explore the Port Arthur Historical Site, a former convict settlement on the Tasman Peninsula, in Tasmania, Australia. UNESCO World Heritage listed. I felt a strong presence of souls from a long bygone era. I don't think you will leave this site without feeling a little saddened by the atrocities that have occurred. I also felt privileged to have visited Port Arthur.
Over its long history, Port Arthur has been a place of hardship and punishment, a place of opportunity, and a place of leisure. It is now one of Australia’s most important heritage destinations. In 1996 Australia's deadliest mass murder in modern history occurred, 35 people lost their lives. This quickly resulted in sweeping gun laws being introduced.
A boat ride of about 20 minutes duration is included in the entry price, it was great. An interesting commentary with loads of information, and stunning views.
